Things I wish someone had told me before I started freelancing
I started freelancing thinking the hardest part would be getting good at what I do.
It wasn’t.
A few things I wish someone had told me earlier:
1. Being good at your job and being good at freelancing are two completely different skills.
You can be incredibly talented and have no clients.
You can also be average at what you do and have a full calendar because you’re reliable, easy to work with and know how to communicate.
2. Your first prices will probably be wrong.
Mine were.
At the beginning you’re so happy someone is willing to pay you that you calculate your price based on the work itself.
Then you discover revisions, calls, messages, travel, planning, exports, invoices and all the other invisible shit surrounding the actual work.
3. Clients don’t necessarily want the best work.
They want their problem solved.
This took me a while to understand.
Sometimes the technically better solution isn’t the solution that makes the most sense for the client.
4. Communication is probably worth more than you think.
Answering messages.
Explaining what you’re doing.
Meeting deadlines.
Admitting when something isn’t working.
Making the client feel like someone actually gives a shit about their project.
Basic stuff.
Apparently not that basic.
5. You will accept jobs you’re not completely ready for.
This scared the shit out of me at first.
Then I realized that’s basically how you grow.
You say yes.
Go home.
Open 37 tabs.
Figure it out.
Deliver.
And somehow you’re slightly better than you were a week ago.
6. The freedom part is real. But so is the uncertainty.
One month you think:
“Holy shit, this might actually work.”
Three days later:
“I have made a terrible mistake.”
Then another client shows up.
7. Getting the client is only half the job.
Getting them to come back is where things start becoming a business.
8. You don’t need to feel ready.
I definitely wasn’t.
I’m still not sure I am.
But I’ve learned more from actually charging people for my work than I ever did while preparing to eventually be “good enough.”

I manage different accounts of local activities and I want to improve the quality of the the videos that I produce for. Until now I used IPhone 17 pro but now I want get a camera..and the question is..someone of you are using Sony cameras? I’m thinking about Sony a6700 and Sony A7 III…

I run a small social media business and I’m trying to decide between the Sony A6700 and the Sony A7 III.
We mainly create content for social media (Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts), so video performance is the priority, although I’d also like decent photo capabilities when needed.
Which one would you recommend and why?

I won’t sugarcoat it—I’ll be straightforward.
I’ve built a system that automatically generates and publishes social media content starting from a simple Google Sheet.

The sheet contains things like:
Publishing dates
Content topics
The tone of voice to use.

From there, the system automatically:
Writes the caption
Generates hashtags
Creates AI images
Prepares the post for publication.

The system also keeps track of everything it generates, so it won’t repeat previous content or regenerate ideas that have already been rejected.

There is still a human approval step. Before anything goes live, you receive a Telegram message where you can choose to:
Publish
Regenerate
Discard
Nothing gets posted without your approval. Once you approve it, the system handles the rest automatically.

Every action is logged. It maintains a history that records:
Whether the content was published or not
If it wasn’t published, the reason why
Date and time
The platform where it was (or would have been) published

This gives you a complete audit trail and helps the system continuously avoid duplicates and improve future generations.

I manage content and digital communication for a small takeaway pizza business in Italy.
When I started, their branding and online presence were pretty weak. I rebuilt their website, improved the visual identity and started creating consistent short-form video content.
The communication is now objectively much stronger than before.
But the business itself is still struggling. Sales are very low and the content, while getting some reach, doesn’t seem to translate into actual orders.
I’m starting to question my role here.
For those of you who manage social/content for restaurants, pizzerias or local food businesses:
How much responsibility do you take for actual sales?
Do you stick to content and brand communication, or do you also build promotions, offers and local acquisition campaigns?
At what point do you tell the client: “content isn’t the main problem here”?

I have a simple question..using upwork, fiverr and similars, I noted there’s a lot of Indian people that really works for unreal prices..first question is WHY?
Second, what about quality?
I’m not blaming them for it… but there’s a reason for low prices?
I mean, WTF!
Are them developing a prices-war?

• 433 interazioni (+43.200%)
• 64 nuovi follower (+392%)
• 408 click al link (+100%)
• Reach: 18.600 account (+27.300%).

Abbiamo pubblicato 21 reels e qualche storia nel periodo.
Un reel promozionale sul padel con sconto del 25% ha superato le 20.000 visualizzazioni.
Quello che sto cercando di capire ora è:
Per una pagina locale di questo tipo, questi numeri vi sembrano buoni dopo un mese?

Ciao ragazzi, due mesi fa ho lasciato il mio lavoro a tempo pieno per diversi motivi. In qualche modo la mia mente si è proiettata nel mondo dei social media, dei reel, dei contenuti ecc., quindi ho iniziato a partecipare ad attività locali presentandomi come creativo in grado di realizzare reel e contenuti per eventi locali. Dopo un paio di tentativi ho trovato il mio primo cliente, un negoziante che conoscevo già perché ci compravo occasionalmente, e ho iniziato a creare contenuti per questo negozio con risultati soddisfacenti, sia dal punto di vista grafico che in termini di quantità e richieste da parte dei clienti (del negozio, non del mio servizio).

Ora mi chiedo: "Ok, bene, e adesso?". Come posso trovare altri clienti? Non posso lavorare solo per persone che conosco, mi piacerebbe lavorare per altre persone, ma l'idea di fare presentazioni a freddo nei negozi non mi mette a mio agio... Qualcuno ha qualche consiglio o suggerimento che possa aiutarmi?

Ps Sono italiano e non so se traduco correttamente i miei pensieri, non volevo usare gpt per fare il lavoro adesso 😂 Ho preferito scriverlo da solo 😂 Grazie ❤️

I’m testing a simple system that takes topics from a Google Sheet and automatically publishes social posts with a fixed editorial format (copy + hashtags, images optional).

I’m not selling anything. I’m genuinely trying to understand if this solves a real problem or if it’s just overengineering.

For people who manage content regularly: Would this save you time, or is manual control still better?
