I have custody of my 9 yr old niece. She came to me with nothing. At a time in my life where taking on a kid was a huge financial strain. Her parent are not/have not been supporting her in anyway, but I’m managing to make it work but things are extremely tight.

Her parent pulled her out of school in the 2nd grade to “homeschool” her. The real reason was to dodge DHS involvement. It blows my mind no one checks on these kids when this happens.

She’s now in the fourth grade but at a first grade 5month in spelling and math. She’s way behind. She’s going to be out of school the next 9 days for fall break and I’m hoping to get a subscription to IXL for math so we can work on her math skills while she’s out.

Some context here. I have custody of my 9yr old niece. She hasn’t had the best home life. DHS placed her with me 3 yrs ago and with 18 hours notice DHS sent her back home with her mom and abusive husband (he was the reason my niece was removed)

We didn’t have contact for 3 yrs until April 2026. Mom asked me to keep her a week and she’s been here since April.

It was rough at first when she got here but she’s started school and doing really well now. I’m proud of the progress she’s making.

I did have some services started for her but she went back home briefly and it had to get pushed back. When she came back to me we had to get settled in school. Then my mom broke her pelvis and moved in with us. She loves grandma but it has been an adjustment.

Sat morning my niece got up super early and immediately wanted to play on my mom’s phone. I told her no, she needed to go back to bed and she grumbled but did it. Then about 15 mins later she comes out and tells me she taking a shower. I asked her why. She said she wet her pants (shes had issues with bed wetting but we finally got in a good place and it’s been much better). I asked her if she came and got my moms phone with wet pants or did she go in there and pee on the bed on purpose and she lied and said she asked for the phone with wet pants.

After her shower i sat her down and told her that her tablet time would hinge on how she responds to my questions and she admitted she did it on purpose. I got the standard IDK for the why. She said her punishment should be 4 days without any tablet time and i agreed. We moved on from it.

Then this morning she wakes up, we had put curlers in her hair the night before and i took them out. She was in a good mood so i thought. She asked if she could watch tv before the bus ran and i said yes. I walked past her room and she’s on my mom’s bed. And i knew why. I blew up. She purposefully peed on her bed. I did not handle it well at all.

I made her strip the bed. then i made her clean it and load the washer. She went off to school.

When she got home she make the bed and talked to her about it. She said she did it cause she was frustrated she had to wake up this morning. She’s usually cranky if she has to be woken but she woke on her own this morning. So not sure if i buy that excuse.

I am getting services started for her but would like to get some insight into why suddenly she’s doing this. I know her mom has mentioned her peeing in the floor when she lived with her but she had never shown me this side to her.

Any feedback on what i can do to help her i would appreciate.

Hello! I had a complete hysterectomy in December at age (49) . I started HRT immediately via Estradiol .1 patch.

I have been struggling with regulating my body temperature. I will be the first to admit that i am overweight. I weight 235 and I’m 5’8. I am sweating profusely when i even think about getting warm. I am talking about shirt soaking embarrassing sweat. Then i get cold.

I am sure im having other symptoms as well just aren’t associating them with HRT. My niece and nephew have been dumped in my lap unexpectedly, i blamed that for being short tempered.

My oBGYN is out till July and i cant get into see my reg dr till next week.

I am miserable. Is there anything i can do to help alleviate the symptoms. I’ve never sweat so much in my life. I had a lady actually take a step back from me the other day cause sweat was literally pouring off me. There has to be something i can do.
