Guessing it’s a coolant valve issue?

Picked up my new to me ‘24 Flash last week. By day two I started getting the yellow wrench powertrain warning about 50% of the time I drive. There is no loss in power or anything else as far as I can tell. What I did start noticing is that when it happens my motor temp starts to rise. It never gets above any threshold or faults out. It just runs around the 75% mark as opposed to the middle 50% line where it normally sits.

Has anyone else dealt with this? I’m assuming it’s a coolant diverter valve issue and an easy fix. Fingers crossed.

Put a deposit down yesterday on a ‘24 Flash. 22k miles and $52k out the door. Seemed like a pretty good deal. Just waiting for the dealership to get the title in.

Test drive was mind blowing. I couldn’t believe how much power it has off the line being such a heavy car. The one pedal driving will take some getting used to, especially since I’ve been a 3 pedal driver forever.

Now I just gotta get a charger installed at the house. Had a brand new 200a panel installed recently so I should be good to go. Everyone recommends the Emporia Pro hardwired. Opinions?

Thoughts on selling/keeping and value?

So I have a 2015 GTI sitting in my driveway. My wife has driven it for the last 10 years until I forced her into a newer vehicle. We would have liked another GTI for her but they quit making them with manual transmission’s and that was a deal breaker for her. Ended up on the absolute opposite side of the car spectrum and she now has a giant tricked out Bronco with a manual. Anyways….

I’ve been sitting on this GTI for almost a year now. We love the car and don’t really want to get rid of it but we should. I have been hesitant to sell for a few reasons. First and the worst reason for not selling, nostalgia, memories, emotions etc. Let’s forget those.

Bigger reasons number 1. I don’t know how to price it out. When I bought this car it was from a suburu dealership that claimed someone traded it in for a new suburu. This was obviously bullshit. I’m guessing it was a repo auction. The car was less than 2 years old and around 18k miles. It had been modified with lowered performance suspension, full stainless performance exhaust, aftermarket racing clutch and short shifter, aftermarket engine mounts, beautiful 20” rims and low profile tires. Engine was reprogrammed to run at a significantly higher pressure from the turbo. Don’t remember the numbers the dealership gave me but it was 3-4x stock pressure. This car easily had $10k in performance upgrades to it. I bought it for $17k cash. Pretty sure the suburu dealership knew nothing about the mods other than the wheels. Like I said, I’m pretty sure they grabbed it from an auction to put on their lot so they could pretend someone traded it in.

My questions about the pricing are because I’ve recently replaced a lot of the important stuff. I replaced the clutch, exhaust, coils, turbo, high pressure fuel pump, brake master cylinder, and probably some other stuff. All of this within the last 15-20k miles. I got rid of the 20” rims because I got sick of replacing tires and eventually a pothole fucked one of the rims. I now have nice 18”s for summer as well as a set of 16” rims with snow tires. I honestly don’t know how to price this car. It drives like a beast, rocket fast, body and interior pretty clean for the age. Only current issue is a slow coolant leak I haven’t been able to locate. It’s not leaking inside the engine, oil is clean. Pretty sure it’s the water pump. I’ve read it’s a semi common issue and often hard to diagnose due to the slow rate.

Second reason I don’t want to sell it is because I hate people, and talking to people, and negotiating with people etc. I suppose I can get over that assuming I have a clear idea of what the car is actually worth. Just realized I never mentioned the mileage and honestly I don’t know for sure off the top of my head. Safe guess is 120k ish.

Any advice for me? Or any offers? I’ll take $5k no questions. Just kidding. Not trying to sell here and now. Still not sure I want to sell. With current gas prices, her Bronco and my Gladiator are starting to make me question my choices. Detroit based if that matters for valuation purposes.

Thanks for reading this and any advice you may want to share.

Has anyone heard of or tried this chip technique?

So my buddy turned me on to a new crazy technique for short chips. Only seems viable for shots requiring a quarter swing or less.

I don’t know where he came across the idea but what he was showing me was a crazy feeling setup for short approach chips. He said he only uses it with his short 60 wedge shots.

So the idea is you set up with your feet close together but pointing straight at the pin. You spin your upper body 90 degrees to make your 1/4 swing chip. It feels crazy. And if you try, it becomes clear why you are maxed out at 1/4 swing for this method.

I tried this throughout today’s 18 and admittedly struggled with my distance, but that could have something to do with the fact I rarely use my lob wedge. The reason I don’t use my lob wedge is because I can never seem to control my aim. Every short chip for me is usually unpredictability up to 20 degrees left or right of target. Today, every chip I made using the toes pointed at the pin was dead straight at the target. My friend who showed me this had 3 chips drop in the hole from 15-20 yards off the green. I have never seen him chip in ever before today.

Anyways. I’m drunk and rambling. Just curious if anyone has ever heard of this before.

Can anyone call out a guitarist just by their licks?

Getting into a drunken argument with my boys. We are all musicians of some sort.

My closest friend (drummer, great writer/producer, pretend guitar player) is arguing hard that it’s easy to call out the great guitar players just by the style and sound of their leads and solos. Meaning even if you have never heard the song it’s easy to call out jimmy, or page, or vai just by hearing 30 seconds of them soloing.

I’m primarily a guitar player and disagree completely. I think it’s way easier for me to call out guitar players by the sound of the guitar/amp/production, specifically during rhythm parts. A well played solo is never that distinguishable to me. Yes, sometimes there’s a tiny lick or whatever that I know a certain guitarist loves, but in general I can’t usually call out someone by a solo alone. The way they strum that four chord progression is way more distinguishable to me.

Anyone agree? Thoughts?

Quotes for panel upgrade seem high

Hello,

Just got my first quote and a panel upgrade I need to get done. My current panel has a 100 amp connection but for some reason they installed it with a 60amp main. I would like to get this updated to a full 200 amp service for future additions like an EV charger.

According to the first guy I had come quote it they would need to update the connection coming from the meter (about 4 feet away) and also run a new ground all the way across my basement to the water main. This would be maybe 50 feet away give or take. He’s unsure if the lines coming to the meter need to be upsized but he thinks they should be good.

First quote I got came to around $7500 for the panel upgrade and replacement. It seems a bit high to me. I was thinking it would be under $5k. Just trying to see if I’m in the ballpark or if this is outrageous. I do have two more companies set up to come give a quote. Outside Detroit btw.

Chicago Stadium Story?

I know this is the Lions sub but my boys and I are discussing the Bears upcoming move and also remembering the Lions and Pistons not playing in Detroit back in the day.

Anyways, as a Detroiter I haven’t payed a lot of attention to the story around the Bears move. I feel like there’s a story and some drama behind the whole situation. Something with the city or state either screwing the Bears over or not being willing to work with them. Does anyone have a synopsis of the situation and how the Bears ended up deciding to move not just out of the city but out of the state entirely?
