Fiction Books about Aging Parents

Hey guys,

I recently read a fiction book that featured an elderly father and his care taking son. This is not the central plot, it's actually a side plot to the main event: a 40 something year old man finds himself taking care of his dying wife and the dad is the cherry on top of an already very hard situation. The book was very anal about the time, financial and emotional logistics of elderly take caring and it felt extremely cathartic to read. The writer refused to sugar coat any of the process.

Anyways, i was wondering if any of has ever read a book (fiction only!) that features the care taking of elderly parents scenario? I'm really jonesing for more literature that includes these dynamics.

PS. The book i mentioned is called "So Much for That" by Lionel Shriver (she's most famous for writting, "We Need to Talk About Kevin").

Mandril for sizes between Ring and Bracelet

Hey guys,

Most mandrils for rings stop at 24 mm (largest size) and the bracelet ones start at 38mm (smallest size). Have any of you ever found a brand that carries a mandril with the sizes in between?

I want to make some bezels for these big ass old Moroccon coins that mostly fall between these two numbers 🫠

Wood Door

Hello everyone,

So my mother inherited a house that is on the older side(60's?). All the wood in house was first painted with a lead based white paint and then re-painted over with this (non lead) blueish paint.

My mother wants everything white (she's going to rent the house) and i am thinking of repainting it without stripping the previous paint (because of the lead). But the inside edges (see photos) look "cracked". Maybe there used to be epoxy there, or just paint excess, that got dehydrated with time and "chipped".

Do you guys think it would be okay to fill these cracks with some sort of epoxy (or other product, idk) and then paint it over?

Thank you so much for any help and or advise!

PS. Sorry for any awkward language, english is not my first language.

Constipation hack - Okra

For those of us who are consuming less fat than we used to, sometimes we end up taking longer than usual when we visit the bathroom and end up with these annoying goat pebbles (sorry for the visual).

This can fixed by consuming more fats, off course, but if you are doing 1200cal a day, that can wreck your numbers.

I decided to eat a nice plate of Okra (120grams) and this solved all my issues. I visited the bathroom 3 times next day, my waste was more lubricated and faster to go (again, sorry for the visual). I also peed like crazy. My scale also went down 1 Kilo in 2 days. I will be doing one of these 2 or 3 times a month, i think, to keep everything smooth (pun intended), even though Okra is pretty expensive in my town.

PS.This is advice for people that are getting waste that is more "sttuborn" and dry than usual, not for people who are truly constipated and haven't seen a WC in 3 days or something. I always had daily bowel movements, they were just less lubricated and this advise is for people like that.

What the hell is a cheat meal

Hello everybody,

I've been wondering what is your personal definition of the infamous "cheat meal"? I'm asking out tof curiosity, since i see the definition changing a bit dedenfing on the person who's describing it.

Is it a "trashy" meal you can have because you did a bunch of meal skipping during the week and so you can afford it in your deficit? Is it a meal you just don't count the calories for (throwing caution to the wind type scenario) and just accept you will see it in your scale?

I've also heard of people doing a cheat meal to jump start a woosh after a plateau, but that's more of a tactical use of this fabled meal, not a definition per se. Please share your thoughs, very curious.
