What would you guys reccomend to watch on Netflix?

Im trying to learn Turkish atm (native english dont speak anything else). Think Im A2 level volcab and A1 level everything else. Is there anything suitable to watch on Netflix where I can use English subs? Dont really mind what the show is about Im used to watching mindless tv at my age (40) so it doesnt need to be all action and violence etc. Please advise if you can. Also wouldnt mind a messaging buddy as Im sick of my AI Talkpal girl they cant understand "talk to me like Im yavaş" and theres no option to slow the speech down.

Is there a large sub-section of the population I wont get to see until October?

The thought occurred to me today that there might be a large subsection of society who like myself am not a fan of the hot weather and dont go outside unless its strictly necessary - food shopping/work/gym etc. And then when they do go outside its jump in the car and try not to get much sun exposure.

I feel like Im getting cabin fever from staying in the house so much at the moment. Whats some good airconditioned places that people reccomend going to in Famagusta and the nearby surrounding areas?

Or maybe the majority of the flats where I live are money laundering investments and noone actually lives in them. Any theories?

Near East Bank wtf.

Sent a couple of Swift payments recently. Had to pay £30.30. Not really a big deal. Bit annoying but I feel like thats a normal enough price. Went in to send a Swift payment today and the robbing bastards have jacked the price up to £75!?!

Does anyone know if this is every bank in North Cyprus or just these weasels? Everyone expects a bit of inflation now and then but this takes the piss :(

Where do the lesser known currencies get exchanged?

Ive got ahold of some CZK - Czech Koruna. It was from a holiday years ago but I was emptying my shelves and found it. Anyway, here in Famagusta my usual exchange shop only does TL/Euro/US dollar/GBP etc.

Is there anything local that deals with this smaller and more obscure currencies? I cant leave NC atm and its not worth me travelling too far its probably only about £2-300 dollars worth there. Any ideas people?

Why do people seem to love those Gloria Jean coffee shops? Whats the appeal?

Theres one where I live in Famagusta that always seems busy everytime I go past it. Meanwhile there are independent coffee shops in very close proximity that are much quieter. The place wasnt cheap either so I cant put it down to that. Is there some amazing item on the menu I dont know about that you cant buy anywhere else? I cant work out the appeal of the place. Its the one opposite the tennis courts next to the Dobraz foreign exchange shop if that makes any difference...

Shower got blocked and I fixed it 2nd time round.

Picture the scene. Its Friday night and I decided to have a shower before going to bed. The day before I had unscrewed the metal plug thing and unclogged the white plastic thing underneath.

I had my usual shower. The water was warm. I washed my hair tonight so longer shower than usual. When I stepped out - alas!! The floor was wet as an otters pocket.

Couldnt wait till tomorrow to call building services so I unscrewed the side of the shower - realigned the plastic washer above the ubend plastic thing. Tested it.....

The tension mounted as the water swirled down the ol coo\* and rughole. But by the grace of god it stayed dry! Rescrewed the shower side plate on and good as new.

Feeling very proud of my advanced plumbing skills. Mario would be proud.

Does anyone want a free tennis racket?

So I went to put my household rubbish in the bins tonight (I live in an apartment block) and someone had thrown it out which just seems like a waste no?

There is a tennis court off the main road so thouhht someone might want it? To my knowledge we dont have charity shops round here

Anyway, my location is 5 minutes walk from the Macro in Famagusta. Unsure if there is more than one. Its the one near the Magusa Arena with the Tekzen shop upstairs. I have added some photos. Handle tape has come off but strings seem sound.

I know nothing about tennis so I dunno if its adult sized or not - looks smaller than Id imagine an adult size racket is but maybe someone wants it for their kid?

I photo-d the only info I could find on it. Offering on first comment first served basis (no pun intended) basis.

Does anyone know if that Özel Oral library is open to the public?

I did a google maps search to try and find a library (just looking for a quiet place to get work done as Im having some work done at home atm). It seems all the librarires in my area have the word university attached to them? Just wanted to know if the regular TRNC citizens can go in there and borrow books etc or do you have to be a university student to be allowed in? Dont want to waste my petrol if they wont let me in tomorrow.

Genuine question about dating in North Cyprus.

So I recently got a mosquito net for my bed. Its one of those ones that is suspended from the ceiling and comes down over the bed like a tent.

Women of Cyprus - would you consider this to be acceptable or think a man was weird if you went back to his house and saw this? Does anyone else have one or do you just risk it/close the windows/use repellant spray? I really like my new net but am worried it looks a bit like a kids princess bed 🤣.

So.... whats peoples opinions on this. I can add a photo tomorrow if people dont know what Im on about.

Any other English people living in Famagusta?

I have met alot of people that can speak English now but still havent met anyone else that grew up in England/ the UK in general. Just wondered if I was the only one lol. Is anyone else from the UK here and became a citizen/living here long term? Does anyone know anyone that fits this description?

Do they have any CA/NA meetings in Northern Cyprus?

Got my friend coming to stay with me for a couple weeks. Thought this would be a good place to help them get cleaned up since its impossible to get any H on this side of the border. Or at least its not like the UK where you can pay a homeless guy £20 to introduce you to someone.

They are attending CA where we are from back home and if possible Id want to keep their routine going consistent so they dont toss it off when they go back home. Tried the recovery meeting finder site but no hits so does anyone know about anything here?

I live in Famagusta area but am willing to drive elsewhere.

Does anyone have any experience of being in prison in Cyprus?

One of my acquaintences from Limmasol is looking at a 2-5 year stretch. Cypriot national so doing it on the island.

Crime is nothing the other prisoners would automatically hate them for (not any type of sex related crime or harming animals/vulnerable people). - Just a normal possession with intent charge.

So afew questions:

Does anyone know if they seperate people or would he potentially just get mixed in with all the murderers/rapists/gangsters etc?

Do the cells have air conditioning?

Is it dormitory style or do people get their own cell/share a cell with other people?

Any info appreciated.

Sometimes I love being an autistic fail.

On holiday. Just been to a restaurant. Ordered a meal. For afew alcoholic drinks. Then I thought fuck it and ordered a second meal for myself and some more drinks. So price of a date but I got all the calories for myself. Feeling like a winner till I sober up later 🤣

Im coming to Romania to try and improve my learning.

So as the title says I've been spending alot of money on these language apps trying to learn Romanian. I started learning in late 2023 and although I don't have a way to test myself I'd say I say I was about an A2 Level. Basically I completed my DuoLingo course and if you speak slowly to my like Im intellectually slow I can respond to you in a dramatically butchered sentence.

Anyway, come end of next month Im making a trip to Romania to try and find a shop to sell me some better study materials. I'll be staying in Bucharest - Is there anywhere around there that sells language books for English people trying to learn Romanian or that type of thing. Or maybe like school level books you use to teach your own kids how to read/write Romanian etc.

My only other plan was to try and apply to be some type of a host for Romanians who wanted to visit Cyprus but since it's a random ass country I cant imagine there would be many takers. Is there anywhere in Romania I could advertise for this if there was though? Generally dont use social media but would consider making an account just to get some help this language is proving very hard to learn.

I dont understand what went wrong. Even worse results after self improving. Life is peak comedy sometimes.

As the tile says - I self improved for years and just ended up becoming forever alone. Let me tell you a brief story. It wasn't always like this. Back in the day I did have some relationships but they were always years apart and never lasted. So I thought to myself - self improvement might tip the balance in my favour. So I went to the gym. I bought some nice clothes. I bought a nice car. I stopped drinking alot and quit smoking entirely. I got some hobbies that weren't based around getting wasted. Did some therapy. The list goes on.

Anyway, 2-3 years of this and nothing. Radio silence! I just dont understand it. My standards haven't changed and Im in a way better position in all aspects of life but my results dont even exist now. The math ain't mathing:(

I suppose in good news Im still in good shape but when I go home from the gym exhausted to an empty house it feels kinda like 'what was the point?' 🤣.

Just another living example of how you can do everything right and still fail. Some of us do try but Im beginning to understand why some of us have given up to save our own sanity. Okay rant over. 🙄.

Whitehouse is a venue between Mutluyaka and Tuzla.

It bills itself as a nightclub but actually looks like a strip club. The google reviews are very irrelevant/possibly confuse it with somewhere else.

What I want to know is - has anyone actually been that could tell me is it a legitimate place or the type of dodgy type you get in places like Prague where they open you a tab and then force you to pay ridiculously prices to avoid getting the shit kicked out of you? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Im just looking for a legit strip club to take some mates at the weekend.
