What’s everyone’s thoughts on Emiliana Torrini’s “Love In The Time Of Science”?

If you are unaware, this album was produced by Roland and his longtime collaborator Alan Griffiths.

Personally, I think it’s a brilliant album with some really cool songs and I can definitely see where Roland played a role in making it. I was surprised to read in Roland’s book that he didn’t have a good time making the album.

What are your thoughts?

What’s it like working at Walmart as a tech nowadays?

I saw an opening in my area recently and it made me wonder. I saw a few months back that they raised tech pay. Is it just as bad as any other retail, or maybe better? What are the benefits like? Would you work somewhere else if you could? I’m very interested to hear from people that work or previously worked for them.

There has got to be a way to pursue this career while paying a mortgage!?

For about a year now, I’ve been thinking about going back to school for OT. With all the research I’ve done, it sounds like it can be a very rewarding career. The catch is I already have a Bachelors in Music Technology and I now work full-time during the day to pay my stupid mortgage.

There seems to be no good options in my area to pursue this education, despite there being several schools in my area that offer an OT program (Pittsburgh, PA).

I feel like I’m bring punished for studying music. If I would have gotten my head out of my ass, maybe I would have went for OT to begin with.

How do returning adults do it and still pay the bills? My spouse works as well, but she doesn’t make enough to support both of us.

Sigh… it’s disheartening. I feel like you only get one chance to get it right.

Guitar to Piano: Looking to write songs, what specifically should I learn?

I’ve been playing guitar for a lot of years and I want to spend some time on piano. I’m not looking to play complicated pieces by Chopin or anything like that. I simply want to be able to come up with my own chord progressions for songwriting. I know all of the notes on the piano and I can easily build chords with the music theory I know, but I want to be able to come up with chord changes on the spot without having to stop and build each chord out. What in particular should I be working on? Are there any books or videos I should watch? TIA!

Has anyone read Pat Pattinson’s “Writing Better Lyrics” and seen an improvement?

I struggle with writing lyrics substantially and I’ve had this book kicking around for awhile. I always start it, get a few chapters in and get hung up on one of the exercises, and then put it down.

I’m curious if anyone else has completed the book and saw an improvement in their lyrics?

No cold water from bathroom faucet AND toilet not filling up?

So I’m having an issue with one room in the house. Everywhere else has normal plumbing. When I turn on the cold water faucet, nothing comes out except for maybe a few drops. Also, the back of the toilet isn’t filling up enough to flush. The hot water is fine though.

There was a water main break in the area a few weeks ago and the problems started a few days after the water came back on. Ultimately, I’m probably going to have to call a plumber, but I’m just wondering what it could be and how much it might run to fix.

Songs that have similar production styles to Kenny Loggins’ “I’m Free (Heaven Helps The Man)

I’ve been obsessed with this song lately and I just want more. I love the chimey guitar in the beginning and how all the instruments built up to this amazing 80’s chorus. I would say the only thing that comes close is “Danger Zone” also by Kenny Loggins. Any suggestions are much appreciated!

Basically, I put drywall over top of of the plaster walls and now I have this issue where the drywall sits over the door jamb. Is there some sort of cornerbead I can use or is there a way to fill the gap and make it look like a smooth transition?

Before anyone criticizes, I know I did it wrong and should have tore down the plaster, but it’s a bit late for that now. This is my first time doing any type of DIY work so I’m bound to make a lot of mistakes.
