Unpopular opinion: Wanda shouldn’t become a mutant again

I might get downvoted for this because it seems like the vast majority of the fandom wants Wanda to be a mutant again, but personally, I really don’t think Scarlet Witch should be made a mutant again, either in the MCU or in the comics.

I’ve been talking about this with a few other people, and the more I think about it, the less I understand what making Wanda a mutant again actually adds to her character.

For the MCU especially, there is a very obvious reason why Wanda isn’t a mutant. When she was introduced, Marvel Studios and Fox had that weird rights arrangement where Wanda and Pietro could be used by Marvel as Avengers characters, but Marvel couldn’t use their mutant or Magneto-related lineage. That’s why the MCU created an entirely different origin for them. They’re Sokovian, they were experimented on by HYDRA, and Wanda’s powers eventually developed into something much bigger through the Scarlet Witch mythology. That all works. I don’t think the MCU has to reverse one of its biggest character changes just because Marvel now has the X-Men rights.

Also: MCU Wanda wasnt “whitewashed” out of her comic identity. She was written as a Sokovian character from the beginning.

MCU Wanda has spent multiple movies and a whole series establishing her own identity. She’s not a mutant who happens to be Wanda. She’s the Scarlet Witch. Her powers have been connected to chaos magic, reality manipulation, the Darkhold, Chthon, and her own unique lore.

I don’t really understand the argument that making her a mutant is necessary because that’s how she was traditionally written. The MCU has already changed basically everything about her origin. MCU Wanda isn’t 616 Wanda. They’re different versions of the character with different histories, different families different circumstances, and different origins.

For the comics specifically, I think we’ve already gone too far in the other direction to just reverse it again.
Wanda being revealed to not actually be a mutant was a major retcon, and Marvel has spent over a decade establishing her character without the mutant connection.
Her relationship with mutantkind still exists because of her history, House of M, Magneto, Pietro, etc., but Wanda herself has continued to exist independently of being a mutant. She’s been redeemed, she’s developed her own identity, and Marvel has built up Wanda without her being a mutant.

So if Marvel suddenly says she’s a mutant again, we’re basically getting a retcon of the retcon. And then you have to ask: why did we spend all these years establishing that Wanda wasn’t a mutant if we’re just going to go back to it?

The only explanation I can really think of would be something like “Wanda was always a mutant, but her powers were so immense that she somehow concealed or altered the expression of her X-gene.” And while I’m sure Marvel could come up with something like that, it would feel incredibly contrived to me. It would basically be writing backwards to restore something that was deliberately removed from her character.

Another thing is that Wanda and mutantkind really haven’t needed each other for a very long time. She’s been able to interact with mutant characters and have stories involving them without actually being a mutant herself. I actually think that’s more interesting.

TBH I think making her a mutant again could actually LIMIT her character instead of expanding it. Marvel has done something really good with Wanda over the years by giving her the ability to exist in multiple corners of the universe. She can be an Avenger. She can be involved in supernatural stories. She can be involved with magic. She can be a reality-warper. She can have stories involving Chthon and the Darkhold. She can interact with the X-Men. She can be involved in cosmic or multiversal stories.

I know this probably isn’t the popular opinion here, especially with all the rumors going around, but I genuinely think Wanda is more interesting as the Scarlet Witch without being a mutant. If Marvel eventually makes her a mutant, I’ll judge the story they tell. I’m not saying it would automatically ruin her character. I just don’t see a compelling reason to do it right now.

What are some reasons you don’t want to publish your world or story?

For those of you who have spent a lot of time creating a world, writing a story, or developing characters, what holds you back from actually publishing or sharing it with other people?

Is it fear of criticism? Worry about plagiarism or people stealing your ideas? Feeling like your world isn’t finished yet? Perfectionism? Not wanting to commit to your current version of the lore? Or maybe you simply enjoy worldbuilding more than actually writing the story.

I’m curious about the reasons people keep their worlds private, even when they’ve put years of work into them. There are probably a lot of reasons beyond just “I’m not ready yet,” so I’d love to hear what everyone else’s experience has been.

If not Wanda, then who?

I came across this on YouTube and I’m honestly not surprised, but it’s just crazy. If Wanda isn’t the most powerful, who is?

She’s definitely not the strongest, but to say she’s not the most powerful? Crazy statement.

Wanda x Jean

This is somewhat of a rant.

I’m rereading SW comics just because I’m bored. While reading, I obviously came across this scene where Jean helps Wanda remember her actions. Jean was one of the only mutants who didn’t immediately scrutinize Wanda. Not once did Jean speak ill of her at all.

Flash forward to current days. Apparently Steve Orlando and other writers have agreed not to do Wanda and Jean team ups or at least have them in the same issues because of the fanbases not liking each other. I mean we saw them in separate panels fighting off the Black Winter, but that’s it.

Maybe I’m just not seeing it clearly, but isn’t this kinda…. a stupid reason?

Wanda and Jean aren’t best friends, but they are far from enemies, even if the fandoms don’t get along. Putting them in an issue, or even having them an entire series together would bring Marvel in tons. Not only thing, normally when to opposing fandoms share something in common, they tend to become stronger.

I just think saying you wouldn’t do it because of the fandoms is just a lazy, weak take. This isn’t a jab at Steve or any other writers, but the logic behind it seems flawed considering Jean and Wanda are probably Marvel’s top two most popular women alongside Storm.

How long have you been working on your world? Are you planning on publishing?

Like the question suggests, I’m curious to know how long many of you have spent building your world. And I’m also curious if you’re planning on publishing your world/novels (if your write them)

I know for some, it take just a few months to build their setting, but for others, a few years. And that’s not to mention writing novels.

If you write novels to support your world building, are you planning on publishing? Or is it purely for your personal enjoyment?

For me personally, I’ve been working on my project for over a year now. I’ve written a few novels — which I haven’t completed — to support my world.

Truthfully, I’m not planning on publishing due to my world being extremely complex, meant to break standard power scaling. It’s a mixture of so many different elements.

Since I’m not publishing, it does get a bit lonely when writing, wanting to hear fan theories and have people engage with my world, but I also don’t have to worry about a lot of the things published authors/builders have to go through. It’s freeing in a sense.

But how about you guys?

The Obsession….

Imagine being so hateful and obsessed with us Wanda Stans that you felt like you needed to make an entire YouTube video about how delusional (?) we can be. And crazy how others needed to watch the video, comment, and like just to have a sense of validation. Like literally what was the point of even making this video?

Greenwood and Rainbow Houses

Does anyone know how to use the Greenwood and Rainbow Resort Houses in Homestead? Google says to deposit Timber into the Warehouse but I’m still unsure..

I haven’t seen anyone else actually ask/answer the question outside of two people. The two human answers i found say it’s either not available yet or to deposit timber.

Is it a CN-only thing at the moment? The game doesn’t explain it at all.

Ai in Novels

As someone who actually uses AI, I think the growing popularity of AI for writers, students, and people who struggle with writing has unintentionally created a new problem. Ironically, that problem hurts real people just as much as it hurts AI users.

Let me explain.

Before AI became mainstream, people wrote in countless different ways. Some authors relied heavily on metaphors and symbolism. Others wrote with poetic prose, abstract language, or rich, descriptive detail. Some overexplained every scene, while others used elegant, almost philosophical wording. There has never been one “correct” writing style.

Now, because AI has become so common, many of those same writing styles are automatically viewed with suspicion. A detailed paragraph, sophisticated vocabulary, clean grammar, or a well-structured argument can suddenly be labeled as “AI-generated,” even if every word came from a human being.

AI detectors has only made this worse. Many of these detectors are honestly unreliable. They have falsely flagged professional authors, students, researchers, and even historical documents as AI-generated. They’re often judging patterns instead of authorship, which means people can be accused simply because they happen to write in a style that resembles what AI has learned from human writing in the first place.

This isn’t really AI’s fault. AI learned from the writing styles humans created over centuries. The real issue is how quick people have become to assume that polished or descriptive writing must be artificial. We’ve reached a point where writing “too well” can make someone look suspicious.

The result is that some people now feel pressured to simplify their writing or intentionally make it worse just to avoid being accused of using AI. That is a genuinely unhealthy direction for writing and education.

A woman posted the first chapter of her book on TikTok. She wanted feedback on it. Unfortunately, there were many comments claiming it was “AI Slop” because of how she wrote it.

AI should be treated like any other tool. If someone uses it dishonestly, that’s a problem. But assuming every eloquent sentence, every detailed paragraph, or every unique turn of phrase came from AI does a disservice to writers who spent months/years developing their craft.

Homestead Additions

So after a few days of messing around with it, I’m getting the hang of the Homestead features. It took A LOT of YouTube views to understand things, but I’m getting the hang of it lol.

However, looking at a lot of other player’s personal Homestead and also the sheer size of it, I was thinking… Will they add more features to it?

My main issue is that they gave us so much space for the Beyond Mundane, but I feel like (and correct me if I’m wrong), it feels empty without life outside of the designated places where we place certain buildings.

Like, I seen someone had built a beautiful courtyard, but it was so empty. I just feel like we should have the option to add NPC’s into Beyond Mundane to make it feel more lived in and alive.

Homestead issues…

Hear me out, the Homestead is an amazing concept, but I feel… disappointed?

I’m not sure what I expected tbh, but it seems so complex that I can’t even enjoy it as a slice-of-life experience. You can’t even place buildings in places they’re supposed to be in because it’s already occupied.

I was hoping for maybe a place where we could bring in companions and give them homes, jobs, etc. and can interact with our home maybe. Instead, it kinda feels like a chore instead of freedom. Having to go here, then there, then everywhere is tiring.

I hope they continue to work on this and fix this in the future because as is, it’s kinda a let down.

I hope I don’t sound too harsh or anything, but that’s just my current experience at the moment.

Casting magic through songs

I recently came up with a magic system where spells are cast through singing.

I know “music magic” isn’t a new concept, but I wanted to push it further and make the act of singing itself the source of magical skill rather than just a flavor element.
In this system, anyone can learn magic. The limiting factor isn’t mana, bloodlines, or talent for spellcasting. It’s vocal ability.

A singer’s magical effectiveness depends on several factors:

• Pitch accuracy = spell precision and control
• Breath capacity = spell duration and sustainability
• Vocal range = versatility and complexity of spells available
• Volume = raw magical output and destructive potential
• Vocal stamina = how long a mage can continue casting before exhaustion
• Emotional expression = amplifies power and allows more complex magical effects

· Battle choirs are a thing, harmony = layered spells. Fire + ice + shield all at once if everyone stays on key.

· The scariest mage? Someone who only whispers but has perfect control. They can stop your heart with a single vowel.

A technically perfect singer can cast highly precise spells, while an emotionally powerful singer can sometimes achieve effects beyond their normal limits. However, overuse can damage the voice, strain the body, or even permanently reduce a mage’s magical ability.

I’ve been considering making different musical styles influence magic differently as well. For example, a soft lullaby might be ideal for healing or illusion magic, while operatic singing could be used for large-scale battlefield spells.

My question is:

What weaknesses, limitations, or potential problems do you think a singing-based mage like this would run into? Also, If a mage gets rendered mute via injury, curse, whatever, can they still cast through instruments? Like a flute or a violin? Or is the human voice sacred, and instruments are just cheap imitations that don't work as well (or at all)?

AI Detection is stupid

I'm so tired of people using AI detectors as if they're some kind of definitive proof that someone used AI to write something. So I decided to run a little test.

I took a piece of text that was 100% AI-generated. Full-on AI-written story. Dialogue, description, the whole thing. Of course, I made a very specific prompt.

Ran it through Grammarly's AI detector.

It came back as 4% AI.

That means the detector looked at something a machine wrote and said "yeah, this is 96% human."

And this isn't the first time I've done this. Earlier I ran another fully AI-written piece and it scored 24%. So even when it does catch some, it still misses the vast majority.

Meanwhile, people with strong writing styles like clean grammar, good flow, clear structure get falsely accused all the time because some algorithm decided their prose looks "too perfect." I even had a friend say that their professor accused them of using AI to write their essay due to the AI Detector when in fact, they didn’t use AI at all.

And here's the real irony:

AI detectors use AI to detect AI.

So we're literally using one machine to guess whether another machine wrote something, and treating that guess like it's fact…

If a detector can't consistently catch text that is obviously machine written, then it has no business being used in schools, workplaces, or anywhere else where real consequences are on the line.

Stop treating these tools like gospel. They're not reliable. They're not accurate. And they're definitely not fair.

How many characters are in your setting?

I normally post during the day when people are awake and active, but I’m dying to know; how many characters are in your setting?

For me, I currently have 98 and counting. I call it a mythos. My goal is to make it Tolkien level world building and have many characters for different kinds of stories.

“Ai Slop”

I swear I hear this word so much that I hate it. People only use the word “slop” mainly when they describe AI. How many people actually used the word before the ai hate train? I genuinely can’t stand the word slop now lol.

Toxic Stan’s

So I was just casually minding my business on TikTok, right? I made a comment that Wanda behaves more like the embodiment of chaos than Lord Chaos himself does as in, her narrative role and nature of being often feels more “Embodiment of Chaos” than the actual cosmic entity named Lord Chaos.

And then another Wanda stan replied. And it just… spiraled.

What they said:

"Like come on.. if ur a Wanda fan then you need to educate yourself a bit. Wanda has been consistently been proven to be chaos in its truest form for the longest. Everything Wanda does is in chaos. She's not even bound BY the grand design which lord chaos is. Also, being an embodiment of chaos doesn't prove you to be actual chaos. An embodiment is just representation or expression of said concept, not the actual concept itself."

They also tried to argue that the Eldritch Orchard is her "true form" as in, an incomprehensible state of being and that Lord Chaos has never once been stated to be the actual embodiment of chaos….?

I told them that as a Wanda fan, I'm able to separate headcanon from factual verbatim statements. Wanda has never once been called in Marvel Comics the literal embodiment of chaos or primordial chaos itself. She wields chaos magic. She's tied to the primordial chaos force. She's even called the Queen of Chaos.

They pointed to the moment when Wanda told the Griever of All Things that "everything you fear is born of the same place. Me" and that "everything the Griever fears was born from her." They claimed this alone proves Wanda is the literal embodiment of chaos.

Here's why that's wrong and why reading the actual comic matters: That scene has nothing to do with Wanda being the embodiment of chaos. It has everything to do with her being a Nexus Being and her relationship with Chaos. Nexus Beings represent freedom, choice, and possibility. That's why the Griever fears Wanda not because Wanda is chaos as a cosmic abstract, but because Wanda's very existence as a Nexus Being is fundamentally unbound and, with her chaos, unpredictable. The comic states this explicitly.

It’s funny because We're both Wanda fans. But one of us is stuck in headcanon and fan-theorizing, and the other is trying to pull actual verbatim statements from the comics. I want Wanda to become the embodiment of primordial chaos someday, that'd be incredible. But pretending she already is, and dismissing Lord Chaos as just a "representation," isn't comic accuracy. It's just wanting something to be true so badly you ignore what's actually on the page.

My point is that we're supposedly both Wanda fans. And yet you won't look at what's verbatim, factually stated on the page, on the panel. It's right there. All you gotta do is look and understand. Until something is verbatim stated in the source material, don’t present your headcanons as factual information.

you're going to argue, use source material. Use factual statements and evidence that is given.

I feel like the majority of people on this sub do that anyways. But when it comes to Wanda stans arguing with each other? It's ridiculous. Because the comic is right there.

Be educated before you comment on things. Education is important. Reading is fundamental.

Because when the dude said that Lord Chaos is not actually the embodiment of chaos but yet Marvel Comics, the Marvel Wiki, says otherwise; it makes us look bad. But then again, that's the minority.

So please. Just do your research. Be knowledgeable. Don't make us look bad, because there's already too many toxic and insufferable Wanda stans out there like that other dude.

I just wanted to share this with y'all because y'all are my people. We’re all Wanda Stan’s here.

Anyways, make sure y'all purchase and buy all of the Sorcerer Supreme issues on Marvel Unlimited 😊

What inspired your world?

Pretty much what the title says. I’m curious about that moment or thing that made you go, “Yeah, I need to build a world around/like this.”

What inspired your worldbuilding project?

For me, it came from a bunch of places mixed together. Marvel, DC, and anime inspired a lot of my power systems and abilities. My original characters were heavily inspired by Tolkien, Marvel, and DC, especially larger than life cosmic characters and groups. For the actual worldbuilding side of things, Tolkien definitely had the biggest influence. Stuff like the lands themselves, naming conventions and characters, languages, divine beings with a purpose, and the feeling of an ancient realm with history behind it. Elden Ring also had massive influence in my world, especially when naming my Supreme Being: Godwyn. I kinda pulled pieces from everything I loved and mashed them together into something that slowly became its own thing (it was originally a power scaling fantasy 💀). My world is about making cosmic beings (the “main characters” of my mythos) feel human and distinct.

Pretty much what the title implies. I’m curious to know what everyone wants to see for Wanda going forward after the end of this series.

For me, I’d like to see them make Wanda something older and more fundamental than just “the most powerful sorcerer.” Like tie her deeper into the universe’s foundational chaos (beyond Chthon, maybe rivaling or balancing entities like Eternity, Infinity, etc.). Our baby girl needs true threats. Make her like the Embodiment of Primordial Chaos.

Another, which I said in the first, is bigger threats. We had the Griever, but that felt like the only actual threat to Wanda because she was an embodiment. Wanda is too powerful for regular Avengers missions now anyways. It’s not difficult in this day and age to come up with new idea and characters to oppose her.

I also want to see her interacting with other characters and building relationships with other fan favorites. Personally, I want her interacting with Jean more. I feel like there’s so much potential to explore their friendship.
