For those who are self taught and got lessons at some point in their journey, what things did you have to unlearn/relearn?

In various topics I have seen people who are self taught talk about how when they got guitar lessons they had to unlearn ‘bad habits’ but rarely does someone give an example of what exactly.

As a beginner who hasn’t taken guitar lessons yet, I am curious to hear some examples so that I can pay attention to those things that would potentially form bad habits.

I am really enjoying the journey so far (1,5 month in) with Justin Guitar and jamming along various things I come across on socials. Haven’t had the opportunity to take lessons yet so until I can, I would like to minimize the bad habits as much as possible and hopefully some of your examples may help me get aware of things

EDIT: thanks for all the responses!!!

How can we be certain how old the Universe is (currently estimated 13.8 billion) if it's possible that there is something beyond what we can observe with our current tools?

If our observation is also limited by the speed of light, how is it possible we can be certain how old the Universe is?

We are limited to the tools that we can measure with, so wouldn't it be possible that there is something beyond the borders we can currently measure with the tools at our disposal?

Through Quantum Entanglement we have already proven that information is not necessarily bound by the speed of light, as 2 entangled particles, independent of time and space make it that one will always react at the same time as the other.

Knowing that, scientists still assume that Universe is 13.8 billion years old

Is there something like an app where you can choose chords with BPM intervals and it plays them randomly?

Does anyone know if there is something like an app where you can choose a certain number of chords with a BPM interval you want them to be shown? This would help me practicing random chord changes as I am currently doing Justin's Guitar, but I feel everything is a bit to predictable. Of course in my practice sessions I am also practicing various chord changes, so it would be cool if there is an app or something where I can program which chords I want to practice, at what BPM interval and it would basically show me on screen which chord to play and I have to keep up with it so to say.

(Beginner): alternate picking string - pick gets stuck with note changes - apart from the obvious (practice), any routines/changes to implement?

Started my electric guitar journey a bit over a month ago and alongside Justin Guitar lessons I am practicing some things that I consider fun

So I am doing my best to learn AC/DC - Thunderstruck, albeit on a way lower tempo for the time being and I have been following this 30 min tutorial from Marin Music Center: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l10KoJzRj4I

I am spending a couple of days per week to do at least a 5-10 minutes of practicing this tune.

First thing to do was to decrease the tempo by 50% or so and that is working quite well.

The one thing that I am struggling most with right now is that when I press the notes with my left hand, the plucking of the string with my right hand gets "stuck" quite often

When I am not pressing any notes, I can reasonably well keep a consistent up/down picking with the tempo, even though it's still quite fast for me

However, when I am pressing the notes with my left hand, I reckon because of the string " going down ", my right hand picking gets "stuck" with my string quite often

I am just using the 2nd string to play the melody so that fortunately saves a (beginners) headache, but I haven't yet figured out what I could do so that when I am pressing the notes, I can remain the steady up/down picking without it getting stuck

I have been trying various angles (gliding), different picks and also different tempo (surprisingly sometimes I notice that with higher tempo some of these kind of annoyances tend to get away, but then I cannot keep hold of the higher tempo yet due to my lack of experience)

I am reading the posts here on reddit every day and I am sure many of you are tired of continuously answering beginners question, so I am hoping with my thorough explanation and where the struggle is, is there maybe something I am inherently not understanding, or is it just the nature of this being a difficult technique to master and it just comes back to continuously practicing?

I just don't want to be learning some bad technique, I am all about practicing, but if my technique potentially is bad from the get go, I'd like to correct that ASAP.

Electronic music producer & DJ, bought my first instrument: electric guitar. Very excited about the (learning) journey, been reading this forum for a month to prepare myself

As the title says, electronic music producer and DJ, bought my first guitar (set) and am very excited to start this journey.

Have tried to start instruments in the past, did some obligatory keyboard lessons in elementary school, then tried a bit of drumming with a nephews who play in bands 20 years ago and 5-10 years ago when I started DJing and producing music I have been using hardware like the Ableton Push to complement the digital journey, but never really picked up an instrument to seriously start learning.

Haven't been producing music in a while now but got really excited about electronic guitars recently and after reading this reddit for over a month, gathering info etc., I'm the proud owner of this Yamaha starters kit

With my experience I am most likely gonna want to replace the AMP asap, but can fortunately plug all into my focusrite and connect it to my computer so that should hopefully be an improvement.

I am not here to ask for what to do, or where to start cause you guys have been helpful in all the topics I have been reading and been saving and bookmarking stuff like the justinguitar website.

Hopefully with my experience and some knowledge of stuff like chord progressions, the wheel of camelot (obviously will need to start learning the real note names) as well as whatever I have been applying in my productions, but mostly here to just HAVE FUN :)

So maybe as to not ask " what would you recommend a beginner to do " I would reverse the question and ask, what is it you wish when you started your journey earlier on as to NOT be doing.

See y'all around and can hopefully post some progress in due course

Wraith Form+ (Silent) - Insta pick? Or skip?

It's an interesting trade off to get 3 intangible whilst losing a dexterity each turn since Silent is often reliant on a lot of blocking.

Thoughts on this card? Do you pick it when you see it? When I have breezed through Act 1 and 2 then I skip it, but I consider it when I am not so sure yet. To me it kinda feels like a last resort card, I'm at the end of my boss fight but struggling to kill it, giving myself a couple extra turns.
