Steven Spielberg to Produce Film Adaptation of Viral YouTube Horror Series The Mandela Catalogue

“Hollywood is continuing to mine the internet for its next big horror film.

Amazon MGM Studios, United Artists, and Amblin’s Steven Spielberg have secured the film rights to The Mandela Catalogue in a competitive 11-studio bidding war. Alex Kister will direct the adaptation of his own viral YouTube series about a town invaded by shape-shifting creatures called Alternates.”

$185 for a black hoodie…………..

This bookstore should be right up my alley, I love rare books and erotica but I just know the clientele is insufferable and clout-y lol

Kane Parsons, young creatives and auteur theory

Lots of discussion online about whether or not Kane had to be guided through making Backrooms, that there’s no way A24 would give millions of dollars to someone that young.

I think some of that criticism is jealousy (my least favorite insult that people throw around but I think it’s appropriate here lol), as Kane has truly busted his ass over the years. At the same time, even if he did have help, does that matter? Some of my favorite stories from filmmaking sets are when the director lets the actors change the script in the moment, when the production designer finds an amazing prop to use, etc.

Singular vision is important, especially when it seems like so many decisions are made by committee but filmmaking is also a shared experience and experiment. (Roger Deakins should have more Oscars 🤓)

I’ve been really enjoying this new pod from Jason cause I love when people from The Ringer get weird and go super harebrained.
