“Fuck you.”
Her siblings are also getting named after hotdog toppings.
I love him so much I could die!
I live where feral chickens are endemic to the area. This little flock and I have become very close. I love them dearly and know each one by name.
I think Monica became egg bound and deteriorated overnight. She waddled up to me this morning and I could tell she was actively dying.
I snuggled her and told her what a good chicken she was and that I loved her. It started to rain, so I tucked her in beside my door to stay dry and went in for a shower. When I returned, she had passed and the rest of the flock was there. It wasn’t raining anymore, so I moved her to the grass and they all followed.
They spent several minutes staring at her, clucking and squeaking. Then her fucking DAUGHTER sat down next to her and I lost it. Solo is an ornery little thing, so it was sad seeing her subdued like that.
I just wanted to share with other folks who love chickens. She was a good girl and will be missed.
She’s been broody for months. Every time I think she’s going to hatch some eggs and get it out of her system, she fucking eats them! After her horrific meal, it’s not long before she lays more eggs and starts incubating from scratch.
Of course she has access to food and water, so it’s not like she’s doing this out of necessity.
EDIT: To clarify, as folks have asked, it’s literally right under her face. I worried she wouldn’t eat/drink if it wasn’t right there.
I don’t think she’s eating the eggs because the embryos have died. They seemed to be developing appropriately when I candled them, and she has raised a chick to adulthood before.
I’m fond of her, so I’d like to see her end this constant cycle of broody, cannibalistic, broody.
I’m a novice, and could really use some advice from more experienced chicken folks.
He’s the snuggliest, cuddliest boy. His tail vibrates when he’s excited to see me.
Sorry/you’re welcome for the jump scare at the end.
I’ve heard you should avoid putting knives in the dishwasher, but why? I assume it dulls the blades, otherwise no one would care. But it’s just hot water and detergent spraying around in there. How does damage to the knives happen?
Quick nod to [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Birdsfacingforward/s/PQj4GfHuB0) I made a little while back. Scurvy is getting big and I wanted to share.
I don’t have photoshop, so please be gentle. I just used markup on my phone.
