1. The Prison Visit

The episode opens with Bruiser visiting her father, J. Lyman Stone, at the South Carolina Correctional Facility. With his release date only a month away, he warns her to stop interfering and to do what courtroom titan Leo Drummond says. He refuses to give her details about his past dealings with Leo, driving Bruiser to seek answers from Prince Thomas, the owner of the bar where Rudy used to work.

The Mystery of Rosalie Sutton

We learn that Bruiser’s father was imprisoned for helping a woman named Rosalie Sutton flee the country. This past comes back to haunt Bruiser when FBI agents show up at her firm to interrogate her. They reveal that Rosalie may now be dead. Flashbacks reveal a deeply personal connection, showing that Rosalie and her baby have been weighing heavily on Bruiser’s mind. To shield her father, Bruiser actively bends the rules to cover up his tracks, which puts her directly under the FBI's radar.

What I love about this scene is that, in the moment, without a second thought, Regina goes to protect Snow.

That instinct happens before she has time to put the mask back on.

And then she does exactly that. The second she realizes, the walls go right back up. Suddenly it’s basically...

'Oh... this ain’t about you. I have to deal with my mother'

Because Regina does not like showing vulnerability. Protecting Snow is one thing. Admitting that she cares enough to protect her? Absolutely not. 😂 She can show it through her actions, but she’s not going to stand there and admit it to Snow. (Although Snow knows.)

It’s one of the ways Regina protects herself.

That’s what I love about those little moments with Regina. You get this brief glimpse of what she’s actually feeling, and then the Queen mask snaps right back into place. The vulnerability is there, but she refuses to let it become weakness.

Some take issue with the things Regina says without taking into account that the wall is the point. That’s Regina protecting herself. She’s been told over and over that love is weakness. It takes time to shake something that’s been ingrained in you since childhood.

It’s also why I appreciate her redemption so much. It was gradual.

And she continued doing this throughout the rest of the show.

I’ve said before that one of the things I love about Regina’s redemption is that she kept her edge. She still had some of the best lines. 😂 They didn’t write her like she had a lobotomy and suddenly became a completely different person.

Her demeanor, her attitude, her sarcasm, that regal presence... all of it stayed. Regina remained Regina.

She changed. She grew. She became a better person. But they didn’t erase the parts of her personality that made her her just to prove she had changed.

And honestly, I think that’s a big part of why her arc feels more realistic to me. The vulnerability didn’t replace the strength. She learned that she could be vulnerable without losing herself.

This was clever and I support this message.

Their transformation is certainly complex. I loved every second of it.

Besides Regina and Henry this relationship is my favorite. It's all about them for me.

What do you think about Lana’s choice to have Regina touch Snow’s face here? Did that small moment change the way you felt about the scene?

Adam, Eddie, and Lana watching Stable Boy (Season 1, Episode 18). This is part of the commentary where they discuss Lana’s decision to touch Ginny’s face even though it wasn’t in the script. Lana explains where the choice came from, and honestly, this is what makes her so good in this role.

IMO, it was an excellent choice. That touch gives us more than any dialogue could. This is one of my favorite scenes

For me, it’s the way Lana thinks about Regina as a human, not just a character. It’s not just delivering the dialogue... it’s the intention, the facial expressions, and the little choices she makes in the moment to communicate what Regina is feeling. That touch feels personal and emotionally complicated.

I also love Ginny in this scene. Mary Margaret is genuinely trying to understand the "Why" of Regina Mills. Why did you frame me? Why do you hate me? She has no idea what’s behind any of this.

We’re watching Mary Margaret try to understand Regina from the outside. It lets us in on MM's confusion... because honestly, we’re still confused.

And then boom... the flashback gives us the “WHY” we’ve been waiting all season for. Because it certainly wasn’t because she’s prettier... LOL. ❄️👑

My opinion: Snow is Regina’s confidant. I also feel like Snow has this “fix it” instinct with Regina while they’re both on their healing journey. And as much as some people like to say the crew runs to another character, I do think Regina is the one they ultimately come to when shit hits the fan. She’s the one they trust to help figure things out, give advice, or find a solution. And importantly, Regina isn’t consistently betraying that trust. She can make mistakes, but she’s not repeatedly turning on them. I think that reliability is a big part of why they keep coming back to her. I absolutely can see her as that person.

I really wanted a season 2. I loved Swingtown and didn't make the connection that was Lana until season 1 was almost over. Trina Decker is hands down a favorite of mine.
