How to fix this? The handle has a set screw but there doesn't seem to be the square spindle shaft that the set screw holds on to...

I'm a nanny, I'm at work, we were just about to go to the park when one of the kiddos handed me the doorknob. I've been on my belly in the foyer using my phone flashlight, no spindle shaft to be found, and I didn't hear it hit the floor, I was in the hall approaching the door when it came off.

Western toadlet migration time in my little village!

We're also a mountain biking hotspot with an incredible trail network, community groups who build and maintain trails, and every year during toadlet migration there's public announcements, community alerts, trail closures, and baby toad fences to keep our smol amphibians hopping on for the next generation ♡

All pics from the United Riders of Cumberland fb page.

Tea is a state of mind when you're eight ♡

My daughter and her bestie love fancy teacups, but not tea (yet, give me time, lol), old Royal Albert tennis sets are perfect for milk and cookies, kool-aid and goldfish, whatever. There's some cup and saucer sets that are off limits, but most of them I'll pull out or loan out for a fancy birthday tea party at the drop of a hat ♡

RIP Pickles, cause of death, bonked his noggin at Uptown

This was posted in a local (Vancouver Island) hiking group on FB, and in the vein of the small town vibe on an island of just under a million people the person who buried Pickles showed up to tell the tale, pics below ♡

SNFU, 2016

Not many people are lucky enough to have such a fantastic pic of them and their bestie from the night they met. He's the fella Chi is pouring his beer down the gullet of, I'm on the other side of his chair holding steady. None of the visible arms are mine, I don't see my tattoos, so teeeeechnically not iiiin the pic, but I'm there. Back to my regularly scheduled house cleaning playlists, I freaking love songs that trigger memories of epic nights and solid friendships ♡

Pic was by the photographer the band had with them.

No exemption for property transfer tax on primary residence because dad lived in a small cabin on a big property

Location Vancouver Island, BC.

Our (my brother and I) father passed in January 2022, and settling his estate has been... a thing. Despite terminal lung cancer he didn't have his affairs in order (he was no amateur, he put the pro in procrastination) and now hopefully we're in the home stretch.

He lived on 5.21 acres, semi rural, Vancouver Island. The government has just decided that we get no exemption on our property transfer because he didn't live in a "proper" house. He lived in a two room cold water cabin with an outhouse and a shower and laundry outbuilding. He lived there for over 20 years, we have bills, proof, etc, that it was his only residence, but they say because it didn't meet their definition of a dwelling we have to pay them another four grand.

Is this something we can realistically fight on our own, should we pass it on to our lawyer and pay him hopefully less than four grand, or are we over the proverbial barrel because our dad was a hermit who liked a very simple life?

Edited to add: I know 4k doesn't seem like a lot compared to property size, this is just the proverbial last straw on top of a very large pile of hay. Because of covid backing things up in many provincial and federal offices we've already been penalised monitarily for taking too long on a few estate processes, when we were only late because we couldn't get the necessary information from the CRA to do what needed to be done. We just want to be done with the govt on this, finish clearing the broom, and have a sweet private camping spot/wildlife refuge close to some killer provincial parks.

Jack O', definitely not lantern, it's...

There's a barber shop in my village called "Uppercut" and they have a stylised old school boxer as their logo, who looks an awful lot like this pic of Jack. I want to gift it to the shop, but wanted to know this fella's name in case I can find any history on him to go with the pic. On the back in more modern script and ink it says "longtime member" and "bar?" So he was probably probably a member of a boxing club. I thrifted it ages ago, in either Vancouver or Victoria, BC

My neighbour's front yard, the bottom is "future" ♡

I've never asked him if it's M*A*S*H inspired, but it's pretty freaking obvious to me!
