Healthcare providers...

Another question this time on healthcare providers in the Brookings area.

Looking for a good doctor to get established with. Sanford? Avera? Any recommendations on a doctor that actually listens to the patient and takes time? I had a great one in rural Kansas and hope I can find someone of the same caliber around here.

While on the topic, I also need a dentist. Heard from the folks that there are a good number of dentists in the area. Which one do you recommend?

I have health (and dental) insurance through my employer....

👋 Welcome to the new r/brookingsSD

Hey everyone!

This sub's been around, but it's getting a fresh start — a real home for all things related to Brookings, South Dakota: the people, the place, and everything in between. Whether you're a longtime local, an SDSU student, or just passing through, we're glad to have you here. Post local news, ask for recommendations, share events, or just see what's going on around town.

A few quick notes before you dive in:

Check out the rules before posting — they're short, and mostly boil down to don't be a jerk and keep it local. Be a Jackrabbit not a Bison ;)

Questions about SDSU, housing, weather, jobs, or "best place to get X in Brookings" are all fair game.

Mod team is small but around — send mod mail if you need us.

Thanks for helping kick things back into gear. Together, let's make r/brookingsSD amazing.

Renewed my CCL here in Kansas. First renewal since I moved here in 2021. No class and qualification, unlike some other states, for the renewal.

Received a letter from AG's office in mid-late January stating that permit was up for renewal in June 2026. Process is straight forward. Fill out application. Attach a passport size photo and copy of current permit. Needs to be notarized and mailed (via registered mail) to Topeka. Quick timeline:

02/28/26 - Mailed application
03/06 - Application received in Top Town.
04/17 - Received letter stating that renewal was granted. Need to go get photo taken at DMV.
04/23 - Had photo taken at DMV
05/02 - Card received in the mail.

No fee for renewal and card. I did check the box asking for updates to my email when they received my application. I never received any updates.

Hope this helps.
