What’s it like living in the San Juan Islands, Washington?

I’m Puerto Rican, so I always thought it was interesting that there’s a group of islands in Washington called the San Juan Islands.

I’ve always wondered what life is like there. For some reason, I imagine it’s a close knit community, but I’d also guess tourism plays a pretty big role in the local economy.

Just curious, does anyone here live on the San Juan Islands or have you visited? I’d love to hear what it’s like!

Junios D-Panthenol Barrier Soothing Cream

I have to give a special shoutout to this product. I received it through YESSTYLE in exchange for an honest review, and from the moment I read the marketing, it sounded like it was designed for someone exactly like me, someone with oily-combination skin who also happened to be dealing with a compromised skin barrier when the product arrived.

The texture is a lightweight gel cream that transforms into an almost water-like consistency as you work it into the skin. It never feels heavy or greasy, and a little goes a very long way because of how effortlessly it spreads. The formula feels incredibly elegant and comfortable on the skin.

When I first started using it, I had a painful patch of irritation on the edge of my nostril that was dry, flaky, and beginning to crack. I had been using the Prequel AM/PM Moisturizer, which helped somewhat, but the issue never completely resolved. Once I incorporated this moisturizer into my routine, that irritation disappeared entirely.

Not long after, I experienced my first case of contact dermatitis on my neck. At first, I assumed it was a reaction to a mosquito bite because of where I live, but after doing some research, contact dermatitis seemed much more likely. I stopped using active ingredients on my neck and relied solely on this moisturizer to help calm the area. Within about four days, the dermatitis had completely cleared. While removing the actives may have contributed to the improvement, the itching stopped almost immediately after applying this moisturizer, and today there is no trace of irritation left.

If you have sensitive skin, experience irritation more frequently than the average skincare user, or simply want a lightweight yet deeply nourishing moisturizer, I highly recommend giving this a try. My skin responds exceptionally well to it, and I’ve loved it so much that I’ve already ordered two backups to make sure I never run out. It has quickly become a staple in my routine, and I think it could work beautifully for a wide range of skin types.

Ingredient Call Outs:
Black Bamboo Leaf Extract + Bamboo Water— Rich in antioxidants that help protect against environmental stress and free radical damage

Triple Hyaluronic Acid Complex — Sodium Hyaluronate, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate

Panthenol — Soothes irritation and supports the skin barrier.

Camellia Japonica Seed Extract — Antioxidant-rich botanical extract that helps soothe and condition the skin

Suited For: Normal/Dry Leaning Skin, Combo Skin friendly

Dry down after 15 minutes: Glowy Finish

My experience - just a quick recap of my skin and environment. I have oily combination skin in the t-zone area. If I layer my skin too much, I will wake up with little white heads. I do get the occasional pimple but mostly white heads if I wear anything too heavy and too much on my face. and I live in a tropical climate (Mississippi Gulf Coast). Very humid, at the point of the season where every is hot, wet and humid.

I used this sunscreen for about a week, and honestly, it feels like the unspoken sister to the Haruharu Wonder Airyfit Sunscreen. The consistency, application, and overall experience are incredibly similar. In fact, the biggest difference is the packaging: Airyfit comes in a pump bottle, while Black Bamboo comes in a squeeze tube.

I tested them side by side, and once applied, it’s surprisingly difficult to tell them apart. The main distinction is in the finish: Black Bamboo dries down with a more hydrated, glowy look, while Airyfit settles into a more natural, skin like finish.

Unless you’re extremely dry or oily, I think most skin types could easily skip a separate moisturizer and use this as both their moisturizer and sunscreen. It leaves the skin feeling hydrated, nourished, and comfortable long after it dries down.

It also wears beautifully under makeup with no pilling or heaviness. One of the biggest advantages is the size since it’s designed for both face and body, you get a much larger bottle than a typical facial sunscreen, making it an excellent value.

The only thing to note is that it is not water or sweat resistant, so if you’re spending time outdoors, exercising, or around water, you’ll want to reach for a sunscreen specifically formulated for those conditions.

Overall, this is a versatile, easy to use sunscreen that works well for a wide range of skin types. Between the elegant formula, generous size, and comfortable finish, it’s an easy recommendation from me. Loo

Onion Fresh Fluid Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++

Onion Fresh Fluid Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++

Chemical Sunscreen

UV Filters:
• Ethylhexyl Triazone (Uvinul T 150) — strong UVB protection
• Terephthalylidene Dicamphor Sulfonic Acid (Mexoryl SX) — UVA protection
• Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate (Uvinul A Plus) — UVA1 protection
• Polysilicone-15 (Parsol SLX) — UVB support/stabilization
• Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine (Tinosorb S) — broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection

Ingredient Callouts:
• Muan Red Onion Extract — helps soothe inflammation and blemish-prone skin
• Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid) — hydration support
• Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (Vitamin C derivative) — antioxidant support + gentle brightening
• Tocopherol (Vitamin E) — antioxidant support
• Adenosine — wrinkle/anti-aging support
• Niacinamide — helps with brightening, oil balance, post-acne marks, and barrier support

Best Suited For:
Oily, combination, acne-prone, and redness-prone skin

Finish:
Satin-matte

My Experience:

Just a quick recap of my skin type and environment. I have oily combination skin, mainly in my T-zone area. If I layer my skin too heavily, I usually wake up with tiny whiteheads. I do get the occasional pimple, but most of my issues come from products feeling too heavy or occlusive on my skin.

I also live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, so the climate is extremely humid, hot, and wet this time of year.

I used this sunscreen for about a week and honestly enjoyed it a lot.

The consistency is VERY fluid. Unlike the Hyaluronic Acid Watery Sun Gel, you’re not really blending out a white cast, you’re just blending in the product itself. The formula is pretty transparent right from the start and leaves absolutely no white cast on me during the application.

It dries down to a satin-matte finish. If you lean dry, I highly suggest using your regular moisturizer underneath and letting it fully set before applying this sunscreen. If you’re super oily, you could honestly skip moisturizer entirely or just use a lightweight essence underneath.

I tested it both ways:
• by itself as my moisturizer
• with a lightweight essence underneath

The drier areas of my face definitely felt the matte finish more, while my oilier areas barely felt anything at all. When paired with an essence, it gave my skin a subtle “glow from within” look while still maintaining that satin finish. The matte feel also became less noticeable and more balanced overall.

It also plays REALLY well with makeup. I wear a decent amount of makeup and had zero pilling issues whatsoever. No breakouts either.

The formula feels extremely lightweight and elegant both during application and throughout the day. Out of all the Korean sunscreens I’ve tried, this is one I would absolutely repurchase again. Honestly, if I could only pick one Korean sunscreen to keep using, this would probably be it.

Also, no stingy eyes.

Only downside for some people: it is not water resistant.

Highly recommend if you’re interested in trying it.

YESSTYLE Mini Haul - Face masks

Another mini haul -

2 Packs of I’m From Rice Toner Face masks - 5 come in each box. I do a rice face mask every Thursday when I use my VT 50 Reedle shot.

Mary&May Red Ginseng Face Mask - I really enjoyed the PDRN version, so wanted to give this one a try. Will order more in the future. Will use on a Saturday.

Mary&May Premium Idebenone Blackberry Complex
Essence Mask - 20 sheets in a box. Been wanting to try this for a long time and bit the bullet. Once I use up my last Mary&May PDRN mask, I will use this as my weekly Saturday face mask.

Some say face masks aren’t worth it, I don’t care. I enjoy the 15-20 relaxation and I always feel good and confident afterwards. That’s all that matters 😊

It’s that time of the season and picked up sunscreens to last me -

Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Serum - first time using it. Heard amazing things about it.

Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Watery Sun Gel - loved the 30SPF, trying the 50spf going into the summer.

HaruHaru Wonder Black Bamboo Top to Toe SPF Veil - haven’t heard anyone talk about it. Want to give it a try since I love HaruHaru airy fit sunscreen. This one comes in a larger bottle and is for face and body.

Isntree Onion Fresh Fluid Sun Cream - Never in a million years would I pick up something with onion but after loving the free face mask that came with my last YESSTYLE order, I wanna give this a-go. It’s also meant for combination acne prone skin aka my skin type, so excited to try this.
