Hi Boston bike community! I got a bike a few months back after a 16 year hiatus, due in part of getting my own car so I didn’t rely on my bike to get around a small handful of places. I feel dumb for ditching my bike because after all those years I can’t remember having the biggest smile on my face riding again. This is gonna be a loaded question so please bear with me and be kind as I’m new to city biking coming from a rural area not in New England.

Would anyone know of any biking clubs and/or groups that offer free or reduced price lessons for a city safety course. I would like to be better educated on biking around and not upset anyone in the process cuz I take my mistakes to heart.

Any bike clubs/groups that are doing a group ride along throughout the week? I can keep a pace but still working on tackling beacon hill-esque hills if I do ever face one which prolly may happen, idk haha.

Recommendations for bike locks, lamps, helmets, fun accessories.

I acquired a bike a few months back and I was told it would need to be looked at for possible new tires and chain by its previous owner. Does anyone know of a bike place that can look at it for free and give me an estimate? Can drive to the bike shop if needed, asking cuz I’m new to the area and don’t know places and new to biking so please be nice.

I’m new to writing and have started to reach out to potential pen pals. I have seen all the awesome paper and stationary used associating in creating something to send. However I am new to New England and don’t know any stationary places in and around Somerville. Anyone have any in-person and affordable reccomendations that is NOT Amazon as I know they have 1000s of options and that is NOT a big box store like Target, staples, tj maxx/marshalls. I’ve been to those stores and came up empty. I’m located in Spring Hill for reference and can take the T or drive but driving is a last resort if not close to a T stop.

I (34/F) walked out of a group tonight very sad and feeling kinda neglected. No one would even talk to me or engage in conversation like I was invisible. As a side note I have social anxiety so it’s difficult for me to engage in conversations and afraid to approach first fearing judgement by ppl in public; Additionally, I have met up with this group before anyone asks. After getting annoyed and kinda shoved, I got up and left. Worst thing is no one even noticed I even walked out, not a text or anything….sad.

The Sox are versing my hometown team the Phillies (sorry Sox fans and upmost respect). I (34/F) was interested in possibly attending a game on 5/12 and watch from a popular bar in the area on the other days. Looking to spend no more than $75 per month for a membership and willing to drive if the place has free parking or parking lot, I live in Spring Hill for context. I moved from out of state and finally was able to get my new license plates. Does anyone know if there is a mechanic or shop that can assist me with getting both fixated on the car? Willing to pay a fee. I do not have the proper tools to do this and also my front plate needs to be properly displayed as my current plates that I haven’t changed yet are sitting up on the side of my dash/winshield (yes I know that’s illegal to do and partly why I’m asking for help).

I’m very new to using reddit and to this group so please be kind and bear with me. 

I (34/F) moved to Somerville in October of 2024 with my boyfriend as I was hoping to have a fresh start previously living in south jersey within the Philadelphia metro all of my life. 6 months into living into Somerville my bf and I unexpectedly broke up, he moved out to live with family, I had never lived on my own and love living here so I had moved a few blocks away and became a first time renter in the process (as ex bf was on lease and paid rent for us at our last place). I’m still slowly coming out of my shell that is depression from not only the breakup but also social anxiety from living in a totally new environment fearing ppl will hate me and not be able to connect or vibe. I’m missing a friend circle here where I can communicate and hang with others; The kind where I can walk the community path with for a coffee or boba not having a care in the world of the conversation at hand. The kind where they love spontaneous trips to get sushi, to a park to spronge around, pickup pickleball games or trip to the beach. So much fun where those memories make me smile rather than be sad that I question why I still don’t have friends. Hoping to meet someone out there that fits the bill, is it you?
