How do I stop thinking that the grass is greener on the other side?

For context, I graduated with the degree A and got post-grad depression because it seemed like a dead-end field. No high paying job unless you go to further studies. I was burnt out at the end of my studies that I really wanted to see what's out there outside of my field. Dont get me wrong – I love my degree, it's just I got tired of the intense academic responsibilities and the nitty gritty details that made no sense to me in the grand scheme of things.

My other interest was in field B, a more creative field. After graduating from A, I tried to pivot to B even if I don't have experience. I'm now in a relatively good spot (although it could be better) in my career with B, but I often fantasize where I could be now if I pursued A for my career. Because honestly, career B feels boring to me now.

And I realized I really want learning about A – so I'm thinking it might be good to be back in academia, take grad studies for A and eventually teach! There are funded opportunities to get into grad school for A but taking one would be a paycut for me. It also entails years-long sacrifice since A really isn't that high paying and jobs directly related to it are scarce, not to mention, physically exhausting. Unless I find a good teaching post in a university for A, it will be significantly more stable and intellectually stimulating than the job I have now at B.

Every day, my mind feels like I'm wasting my time (and my youth) by not going after the career I studied years to get into. I feel like an imposter in career B, and yet too distant now to go back to career A.

With my indecision tendencies, I'm also afraid of wishing for B when I eventually go back to grad school and start a new career with A (since I'm pretty sure no one would hire me to practice or teach A without a master's degree at the very least). My feed is also full of influencers working in A, and they look so cool that I wish I was doing what they're doing as well.

How do I stop this? Am I genuinely in a loop or is this a sign that I really need to go back to career A?

Is a local master's degree a plus when applying to int'l master's degree?

Currently finishing my master's degree in the PH. Do you think this could weigh when I apply to international master's degree? Preferably in EU.

Don't want to take PhD (yet) and I'm okay with having two master's degrees

Thoughts on MS Microbiology [UPD/UPLB]

I've heard na notorious ang UP grad schools sa delays lalo na sa science programs. Currently working right now and di ko talaga mahanap yung fulfillment sa current work ko kasi medyo malayo sa course ko. Fantasizing about entering academe and be a prof someday pero di ko rin alam if I'm just putting academia on a pedestal. Feeling ko kasi studying is what I do best and not being in a desk job.

If ever ipush ko nga, I would need to probably leave my job and apply for scholarship kasi I don't think it would be possible to have a full-time office job while taking a tedious program. Pero caveat ay of course financial strain kasi I'm currently earning slightly above average.

MS Micro students (especially those na under DOST scholarship), would you recommend or not recommend taking this path? Gaano katagal bago kayo naka graduate? Nakatulong ba sa career niyo?

Microbiologists, what do you do for work?

I'm actually an RMicro but not practicing the field since I'm scared of constricting myself in the lab. I decided to go for a desk job (not related to micro) which I am still thankful to have, but I'm having this itch/curiosity if I would enjoy being a microbiologist more and practicing my degree.

For context, I do like my job naman ngayon, and mas magaan siya compared to doing lab work (how I was exposed to in undergrad), and okay din naman compensation. Ito rin kasi yung among the line of work I envisioned for myself when I was younger (somehow). Medyo may nafefeel lang akong kulang kasi hindi ko pinapractice directly yung pinag-aralan ko.

To microbiologists out there practicing the field, what's your role, industry, and what are your day-to-day tasks? Would you recommend your current career?

Thank you sa sasagot.

Still thinking about the part-time faculty role I declined

It has been a year and I'm still thinking about the faculty role I have been accepted to — and eventually declined a month before starting.

For context I am in a different field now and I don't have an MSc degree. Plus the fact that the university is a top uni in my country. I was offered the position to be a lecturer but I figured it was too complicated given that I have a full-time (non related) job in another city. I just realized (after losing the opportunity) that I might have thrived being in academe rather than in my office job. I really like learning and talking about my field. My career right now is remotely related to my degree. While I am very thankful for it, I don't feel proud of what I do. I think I could only be proud if I do something noble like being an academic/professor.

Trying to cope still that's why I posted it here. I think I am a bit disillusioned with academe as a whole. Any advice from someone on the other side, profs or even former profs? Am I putting academia on a pedestal? I'm having a hard time accepting my decision since I consider it as a golden opportunity given my qualifications. I'm uncertain if any similar opportunities would knock in the future.

MS Environmental Science in UPLB

Hello, sa mga nagtetake/nagtake ng MSES sa UPLB recently, tanong ko lang sana if hybrid pa ba ang mode of learning - and gaano kadalas usually ang F2F classes? Kaya ba isabay sa full time job na nasa Manila?

+ How are the profs and overall course load? Mabigat ba esp madalas ba ang mga field/lab?

Currently torn kasi sa UPOU MENRM program at itong UPLB MSES. But parang mahirap kasi yung asynchronous classes ng OU.

Thank you!

Where can I buy Macbook Air M2?

May nagbebenta pa ba sa mga authorized stores? Parang wala na kasi akong nakikita pero baka may nakabili recently dito. Dont want to shell out a lot of money for newer models.
