[fully lost] The Italian dubbing of Static Shock
A few years ago, I was particularly obsessed with a cartoon called Static Shock. It was a very unique show that addressed issues that were far ahead of the standards of children's cartoons of the time (we're talking about the 2000s), such as racial discrimination and police violence. It was part of the DCAU macro-universe (which also included cult classics like Batman the Animated Series and Justice League Unlimited). It aired from September 23, 2000, to May 22, 2004, in America. Although many think this series never arrived in Italy (like the Zeta Project series, which is entirely new here), it actually arrived on our TVs on April 5, 2004, first on Cartoon Network and then reruns on Boing. I have memories of this series appearing on Boing's famous late-night broadcasts between 2010 and 2011. Almost all of the dubbing data for this series is even known. Unlike other series dubbed at the historic Merak studio in Milan, this series was dubbed at VIDEODELTA in Turin, with dialogue translated by Esther Ruggiero and Cristina Zalone, and dubbing directed by Ruggiero herself and Riccardo Lombardo. We even know the voice actor for the protagonist, Davide Garbolino (who, despite meeting and speaking with him for half an hour, I wasn't able to ask him about this series) and the co-protagonist, Alessandro Rigotti (our Sasuke). Furthermore, we know that the character of Batman was voiced by the usual Marco Balzarotti (the man who popularized the character of Batman in Italy by dubbing him for the entire DCAU, including the re-dubbing of The Adventures of Superman), but curiously, Joker was voiced by Mario Brusa (the historic voice of Wallace in Wallace & Gromit) rather than the classic Peroni.
