Any Suggestions on Itinerary?

I'd love any suggestions you have on a proposed itinerary. This will be our first trip to Naples, but we have been to Italy many times.

  • Tue 9/29: Arrive Naples - check into hotel in Centro Storico.
  • Wed 9/30: Explore Naples; evening food tour
  • Thu 10/1: Full Naples day: museums/neighborhoods, food, and wandering.
  • Fri 10/2: Ferry to Ischia; check into Il Monastero at Castello Aragonese.
  • Sat 10/3: Explore Ischia
  • Sun 10/4: Morning ferry back to Naples, then train to Pompeii; afternoon at the hotel or exploring the city.
  • Mon 10/5: Tour of Pompeii with archaeologist; evening train back to Naples.
  • Tue 10/6: Wander around Centro Storico + Sanità/MANN.
  • Wed 10/7: Wander around Quartieri Spagnoli, Pignasecca, Toledo, and Vomero.
  • Thu 10/8: Wander around Chiaia, Santa Lucia, waterfront, and a relaxed final stretch.
  • Fri 10/9: EDIT Napoli art/design festival
  • Sat 10/10: Train to Rome; fly home

Ischia Recommendations

Going to ischia from Aug 31 -Sept 7. Staying in ischia porto. Any suggestions on what I should see / visit / food recs.

Spicy Swamp Soup

How do you use up a bunch of basil (besides making pesto)? I tried something that worked out pretty well…

I sautéed a handful of garlic, a Serano pepper, and onions then simmered it in chicken broth. Then I blended it with a the mountain of basil, returned it to the pot, and added meatballs, and roasted vegetables (mushrooms, celery, garlic, etc.) I finished it with a drizzle of Picamas sauce to make sure it was interesting.

Turned out really well – and now I know what to make for Halloween!
