Got a Wavestate and I'm overwhelmed (in a good way) got tips?

I finally bit the bullet and picked up a used Korg Wavestate (mki). It was in great condition, came with an unredeemed plugin licence, and even included a matching carry bag.

I felt like a kid at Christmas. As soon as I got home I watched the XNB tutorial, installed the Librarian, updated the firmware, and started exploring the presets. I even made a few simple multitimbral patches (no wave sequencing yet), and... woah. What a machine!

This isn't my first synth, and I wouldn't call myself a beginner. I already own a Microfreak, I've used several of other synths, and I've even built a few myself. But this is hands down the most complex hardware synth I've ever owned.

I make dark ambient (with some dungeon synth influences), film and game soundtracks (often orchestral), and I also perform dark ambient live.

So, what tips or tricks would you recommend? Any must-watch tutorials or creators worth following for inspiration? And to those who own it: anything you wish you knew when you started this adventure?

Cheers

Cazataire: my first live recording

https://cazataire.bandcamp.com/album/litha-live-performance-at-ludicae-domus-2026

This live recording was captured on 20 June during Ludicae Domus 2026, where I performed the first EP of Cazataire. It was the day before the summer solstice (Litha), a time in which pagan bonfires still lit up the Spanish skies nation wide.

This recording is also dedicated to my good friend Juampa (aka Cels), whose birthday was that day, and who passed away five years ago, after a long battle with COVID.

Hail the Traveller.

Cazataire live: A fragment of my last performance

Id like to share with you a snippet of my live performance last week at a local geek fest. If people like these fragments I'll be uploading more. Would love to hear some feedback and opinions and if anyone wants to collab with this project! 😊

Tomorrow is Cazataire's second live performance

Tomorrow, on the eve of Midsummer, I'll be playing live in my hometown for the second time and introducing my first EP, Storm over Aneto, available on a very limited DIY cassette run.

I'm hoping to record the set and release it at my Bandcamp page afterwards. (You can listen to the EP there)

I'm very excited! To be honest, I don't think I'd have got this far without this community. Your support keeps me motivated to keep pushing this project forward.

Cheers! 😊

Advice on how to make a Folk horror game

I have RPG maker VX Ace but I haven't used it since I got it. My last experience was with RPG maker XP waaaay back then and I feel there's some true potential here, but I'm totally lost. Here's a bit of a summary of the game mechanics and characteristics I'd like to include in the game:

- Folk horror story: I want to base my game in european folklore and pagan mythology. It's pretty much written already, and includes a lot of references to local folklore.

- Nature/civilization connection: There's a dial that determines the degree of connection the party has with nature or civilization (mutually exclusive). Fights change the creature type depending on your level of connection with nature or civilization. If you choose to lean more towards civilization, folklore-based monsters will attack, and if you choose to be more connected to nature, human bandits and bounty hunters etc will attack.

- Likewise, the items you find will change depending on how close you are to nature or to civilization.

- Relationship mechanics: party members can roleplay, and the way they interact increases or decreases a relationship bar they have with each other, which becomes a combat bonus depending on how much they love or hate each other. They could even leave the party if they hate everyone and have no reason to stay (ie if they have a romance with one character, they may still stay).

- Travel the world map spends supplies and can trigger random fights. A skill called "survival" can decrease the travel time and supplies spent. Running out of supplies can make your party lose health over time. Another skill called "protection" could even prevent certain random fights to occur altogether. There are other passive skills that provide benefits, such os "occultism" which increases the chances of finding magic items. There's more but I don't want to make this longer than it already is.

I'd appreciate some guidance and perhaps advice on tile sets, plugins and tutorials I should check out to make this game, and also to know whether RPG maker VX Ace is the right tool for this job (and if not, what engine would you recommend).

Finally, I wouldn't mind teaming up with other people so if you think you could contribute to this project, feel free to reach out, but beware this is a passion project with zero budget so far.

First EP of my new live dark ambient / DS project with Pyrenean folk elements

Hi y'all! Here's my contribution to the Shamble with the following parameters:

  • total instruments/patches: 5 (in my case, 5 hardware patches)
  • total songs: 7
  • total album length: 13-20 minutes (~19 min in my case)
  • style: battle synth
  • theme: wars, battles, and other bloody clashes

I've been developing a small live project called Cazataire focused on field recordings, synths and spoken fragments inspired by landscapes and local legends from the Pyrenees.

This EP in particular (the very first one under the project) grabs inspiration from the legend of the confrontation between the giant Netú and the Pyrenean gods, and how the famous Aneto mountain came to existence. In the lyrics section you can find what part of the legend corresponds to each track.

This EP was built from rehearsal fragments of the live performance, and it is purely instrumental. I went fully DAWless (no computer was used) and is intender for live performance. In fact, in my socials you can find some videos of me performing the tracks.

Here's the Bandcamp link:

You can find codes in the comment down bellow. Feel free to DM me if you want more. It would be great if you could write a comment in Bandcamp too!

Feedback is always welcome!

Help making a convincing Starcraft's Brass patch

Hi everyone! Ive always wanted to try making a patch similar to the brass sound from the Terran 1 theme in StarCraft 1. Pretty iconic sound. And since I now have a Microfreak, I might as well try.

I know it’s probably based on a rompler sample, and it would obviously be easier to recreate loading that sample into the sample oscillator. But as a fun challenge, I'm curious how close you could get using other algorithms instead of starting from a brass sample.

How would you approach it? And if it's basically impossible to get close without samples, does anyone know where that original sound actually came from?

You can find the sound I'm referring to at 00:36 in this video: https://youtu.be/mD4GbGmvNRc?is=mOKs4X7Aq39Ks66i

Dark ambient inspired in LotR

I'd like to recommend this album by Raudvik. They usually make ambient hardware synth jams and I enjoy all of them, but this one really stood out to me.

Since it's a genre quite adjacent to DS and also the theme fits right in, I thought some people here might appreciate it too. Moreover, it is almost 3 hours long lol! enjoy!
