Need advice from Mumbai monsoon veterans: Are rain boots/gumboots actually worth it?

I’ve been considering buying a pair of rain boots/gumboots for quite some time, but I’m unsure whether they’re actually worth the investment for daily use in Mumbai during the monsoon.

I’ve tried finding them offline in shoe stores and markets, but there aren’t many options. I bought one pair previously and found them quite heavy, tight, and uncomfortable.

My main concern is comfort. When people recommend gumboots, I wonder how practical they really are if you’re wearing them for several hours. For example, if I’m travelling to college, taking trains, walking around malls, offices, restaurants, etc., I can’t exactly change footwear midway.

I currently own rain shoes that are more like mesh loafers. They dry quickly, but my feet still get drenched during heavy rain or waterlogging, which I dislike.

I’m seeing some returnable options online (Amazon, Myntra, etc.), but reviews are mixed, and I’m hesitant to spend money on something that may end up sitting in a corner after a few uses.

A few questions for people who have actually used them:

Do you wear gumboots directly with socks, or do you wear them over your regular footwear?

Are they comfortable enough for 3–6 hours of continuous use?

Do your feet end up sweaty and uncomfortable?

For Mumbai rains specifically, are waterproof shoes a better option than full gumboots?

Any lightweight models available in India that you would genuinely recommend?

For context, I’m mostly dealing with train travel, college campuses, footpaths, and occasional waterlogging up to ankle or mid-calf level.

I’d appreciate recommendations from people who have used them for an entire monsoon season rather than just a few rainy days.

WhatsApp on iPhone keeps asking me to free tens of GB for backup even after upgrading iCloud and deleting files. What am I missing?

I’ve been struggling with a WhatsApp storage issue on my iPhone for quite a while now and I’m hoping someone here has dealt with the same thing.

A while back I used WhatsApp heavily for sending photos and videos in multiple groups. Over time, WhatsApp storage became so large that my backups started failing. At first I thought the issue was simply that the free 5 GB iCloud plan wasn’t enough, so I upgraded my iCloud storage and also spent a lot of time deleting unnecessary files, apps, photos, videos, and documents from both my phone and WhatsApp.

Despite that, WhatsApp would still keep telling me that I needed to free up a huge amount of storage on my iPhone before a backup could be completed.

Current situation:

iPhone: 128 GB

Used storage: 123.23 GB

Free storage: \\\~4.7 GB

WhatsApp size in iPhone Storage: 33.89 GB

WhatsApp Manage Storage: 30.94 GB used

Files larger than 5 MB: 21.29 GB

More than 1,265 files larger than 5 MB

The confusing part is that I already upgraded iCloud storage, so I expected backups to work after that. Instead, WhatsApp still keeps asking me to free a massive amount of local storage.
I also don’t really want to permanently delete a lot of these videos because some of them are important. I do have a SanDisk external drive and I’m considering moving media there, but WhatsApp doesn’t seem to provide a straightforward way to bulk-export years of videos and media.

Questions:

Has anyone else experienced WhatsApp demanding huge amounts of free iPhone storage despite having enough iCloud storage?

Is WhatsApp actually requiring temporary local storage equal to or larger than the backup size?

Is there a reliable way to bulk-export WhatsApp videos/media to an external drive before deleting them from WhatsApp?

Has anyone fixed this without deleting years of chat history?

I’ll attach screenshots of:

Any advice would be appreciated.
