Do your snakes ever have a stare-off with a new item intheir enclosure?

The orange hexagonal ball isn't entirely new, I had it hanging in the upper left corner near some hanging leaf cover, but she only climbed it twice since I hung it up about a month ago. I thought maybe she might check it out if I put it on the ground, but she's just been staring at it for the past 20 minutes from her favorite corner. If she's still like this after a full hour has passed, I think I'm going to take it out!

Hide safety precautions

I bought this cute 3D printed sushi restaurant hide for my MBK and even though the maker said they're going to seal it and give it a couple coats of polyurethane so it's easy for me to clean, I'm worried the points of the roof and sign will still be sharp. This is a pic of it pre-sealed so I don't know if the corners will be rounded from the coating. But just in case, would it be a good idea to sand them down? They also mentioned the poly will be completely dried and gassed off before it ships for my snake's safety.

Good eats after a perfect shed

I woke up to a perfect shed after not seeing Lemon for 10 days since her last feeding! Of course, she grabbed her food by the neck instead of head first... again 😅 I kept an eye on her to make sure she'd get it down, and I was impressed by how she was able to maneuver the mouse to get the aspen away from her mouth! I tried to guide her to eat on the humid hide, but she wasn't having it lol. I'm so happy to see my baby again, especially seeing her healthy and happy 🥰

Questions about springtails and potential enclosures

Hey everyone! In the first 2 pictures shown is where I'm keeping my Cherry Blossoms until I get a bigger container (I have 6). Regarding the holes for ventilation, would it be okay if I added some white springtails with them or wait until I make a larger vivarium for them?

I also have pictures of the potential tanks I'm thinking to use for my Cherry Blossoms and other isopods I'm getting early next week: C. Penguin and A. Gestroi. I know the screens are big for gnats to get in, so I was going to get another screen to add to them. Besides that feature, would these be good to use for isopods? There's still stuff in them and definitely need to be cleaned because I got them secondhand from someone else. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Planning to fire a client who doesn't comprehend that I behave a life outside of cleaning & doing other things for her

Today alone, the way she has been policing me on how she wants things to get done and when I get there is really annoying. She was texting me non-stop from 10am to 1p about what she wants done and that she has a package coming in for her dog and to keep an eye out on said package. Multiple times.

Yesterday, when she already specified all of this I said, "Yes, absolutely will do! I'll clean and tidy everything up the way you want and I'll bring the package inside." It's like... does she not even trust me to do my job?? This is the third summer I've cleaned for her. She also texted me 10 minutes before I got to the apartment that she got an email saying her package had arrived. I told her I walked around the entire building and I don't see any package. The original time it was supposed to show up was 3p, I got there at 2p. She said that if I finish cleaning before the package arrives, she would pay me an extra $10 to come by tomorrow afternoon and put the package inside the apartment for her. Tomorrow, I have a full day's worth of cleaning, meeting with another cleaner to pay me the rest of yesterday's cleaning we did together, and an appointment with my therapist. I do NOT have that kind of time for you, lady!

Last year, she would ask me to look after her dog at night or stay at the house a little bit longer with the dog before they got home after I cleaned... maybe twice. She would always pay me extra money to do that, but I feel like she's completely oblivious that I have a life outside of my job, that if she offers to pay me to do whatever for her, I'll do it no matter what. I told her straight up earlier this spring that I would not have time to do any dog sitting for her!

Since they're renting an apartment, I'm going to contact the owner of the apartment first and let her know that I do not plan to continue cleaning for them for the rest of the summer while they're here, but I will be happy to keep cleaning for her once they have left.

High temperature concerns

I took my MBK's substrate temperature with a temperature gun about an hour and a half after the lights turned on. Even though the aerial temperature was only at ~82°F, the substrate on the hot side was already up to ~91.5°F. I changed my thermostat to have the temp go from 81°F to 84°F on the hot side so the substrate wouldn't get too much hotter. I usually have it set to 83°F to 86°F. The thermostat dimmer is for my CHE (100W) and the daytime automatic on/off is for the 60W basking bulb. My UVB light also comes on at a low light slowly getting brighter to mimic the sunrise.

I'm planning to replace the 60W basking bulb with a UTH and keep the CHE for overnight heat. I plan to get another dimmer/thermostat for the UTH so as not to overheat the tank. Would the UVB alone be enough light for her or should I get a lower wattage basking bulb? Or something else? She's in my livingroom that has 3 windows so natural light can be provided. Any advice and tips would be greatly appreciated! Pic of Lemon for snake tax 🐍🍋

Edit Just wanted to add that she seems to be comfortable and healthy, she ate yesterday and took it down well, still climbing around. Seems like we're getting another almost-heatwave where I am, yet not not enough to turn on the AC like last month to regulate the temperature without it getting too cold. I just don't want to accidentally stress her out with a surface that's way too hot for her.

What are these spots on my MBK's scales?

I noticed while I was rearranging the plant coverage in my MBK's terrarium earlier this afternoon that she has a few spots near her head and on her neck. To me they look like dry scales.

I recently changed her humid hide moss back to what she originally had because the one I changed to about a day and a half ago didn't hold water very well, so I'm wondering if maybe her humid hide wasn't humid enough, though her humidity range has been consistently staying between 43% - 55%. She doesn't have these spots anywhere near her mid-section or on her tail, and I don't see anything going on with her belly, either. It's just these specific spots that I circled in the pictures here.

I'm also convinced that they're not mites because I don't see any little legs and they're not moving. They just look like grayed dots of what I think are dried scales. She shed 2.5 weeks ago and it was a good, clean, full shed. My only other thought is maybe dried poop? I cleaned up what was there last night and she doesn't stink 🤷‍♀️ Any clarification and how to take care of them if needed would be greatly appreciated!

How can I sanitize this coconut shell hide?

I got this at a stereotypical nautical gift shop at The Cape earlier today. As you can see, it was on sale for $1 and my MBK could use a smaller hide on the cooler side of her terrarium. Can I just scrub this with the usual Fluker's reptile sanitizing cleaner, rinse with water, and let it dry, or is there a better alternative?

My adorable and curious baby

One of my besties looking after my MBK Lemon while I'm on vacation. She took this picture of last night while checking the moss in her humid hide and I nearly died of cuteness!! I knew Lemon could be photogenic in the right lighting with my "eh" phone camera, but this is beyond what I could ever take. I'm upgrading my phone before the end of August!

I didn't think this would be an option to feed to snakes...

Granted, I just got my first pet snake at the beginning of the month so I'm still new to snake care, but ever since I was a kid, I've seen pet snakes eat mice and maybe small eggs. But these things I got an ad for look... well, not great, if I'm being honest. MAYBE as a treat once in a while like, I dunno, on holidays and their birthday/gotcha day. Again, I'm still new to snake care, but I don't like the idea of replacing mice or any other animals they can eat with this mushed up multi-meat cylinder. Not to mention the ad is misleading-- you don't need to thaw your frozen rodents overnight 🫠 Has anyone tried these or knows someone who feeds this to their pet snake?

Should I up the pinkie size for Lemon? If so, can I feed her 2x the x-small ones I still have?

I was just doing some bulk online shopping for more pinkies for my 7th month old MBK Lemon and I just realized I have been feeding her what is considered x-small pinkies from Petco when, according to Rodent Pro I found via Chewy, they are actually x-mall pinky mice (1.5 - 1.99g)!! And of course, Petco labels the small as medium and the medium as large per the weights I just learned about.

I fed her for the second time yesterday morning the 14th at ~8:30a and before that, I fed her last Thursday the 9th at ~3:30p after her first shed with me. She pooped normally a couple of days ago on schedule. Should I up to regular small pinkies? I have a bag and a half of these frozen ones in my freezer so could I feed her another one today when I get home at ~1p? Or would that mess up her digestion? Here are the best pics of Lemon I could find for size reference and the bag of pinkies I have.

Would setting the daytime lamp an hour or so later than it's been after about a week be ok?

I live in a one story apartment, so I have my MBK's enclosure in the living room. Her terrarium is on the far left of the living room and it's about 21.5 feet away from the opposite wall where I keep my AC in that window. I have been hanging out in the living room watching TV until 10p, sometimes 11p, with the sound in my Bluetooth headphones so the TV noise isn't on all night for my snake to hear.

The TV is at the halfway point of my living room on the right side against the wall (so it's not directly facing the terrarium) and I have a standing lamp in the far left corner furthest away from the terrarium I turn on when it gets dark. She does poke out and explore, drink water, etc anywhere between 8:30p and 9:30p. Her daily lamp has been set to turn on at approximately 6:15a and then it turns off approx 6:15p. I keep all of the kitchen lights off at night when I dont need to be in there (it's across from the livingroom, the short side of her terrarium faces it though it's covered with lots of hanging plants).

Since I do stay up late, would setting her clock an hour or so later really mess with her rhythm, or do you think she would be okay? Especially now that it's summer, it stays lighter outside longer anyway. I do leave a couple of my curtains partially open until it gets close to completely dark. Now that I think about it, would it be normal to change the light time as the real light changes at sunrise and sunset between seasons?

I really don't want a TV in my bedroom, and moving her into my bedroom isn't an option either as I can't put my AC in there to acclimate the temperature for her, especially with the heat wave we recently had. Any tweaks that I can make besides those 2 options that I just mentioned would be very helpful. Thanks in advance! Snake tax added!

She's beauty, she's grace...

...she'll flop off the door crevice nearly upside down on her face 😅

I really wish I was recording a video instead of just simply taking a bunch of pictures of her! I really didn't expect her to flop on her back the way that she did 😂 She got back on her belly so quickly and looked around like "What the heck happened??"

Also: seeing these grainy AF photos from my phone compared to other people's photos makes me want to invest in upgrading with a much higher camera quality.

Lemon's first shed with me!

I initially thought she had already shed when I got home from work earlier this afternoon because when I saw her slithering through the hanging leaves of the terrarium, she was so glossy! I also assumed she ate her shed, I've read that snakes will do that sometimes if they're hungry enough. I also fed her a pinkie when I saw her, so it all added up in my head that the shed was complete.

I just got up to go get something to drink 15 minutes ago and next thing I knew I saw her shedding! I got to record the very end of it as she was going into her humid hide 😊 I am a little worried that it looks like she didn't get the rest of the shed off of her face and eyes. I assume she's in her hide to get the rest off, but is it possible that I could maybe help her if she shows herself?

Can I switch things around in my baby MBK's tank while she's burrowing in shed mode?

I got my new MBK last Saturday morning. She's approximately 7 months old and she was just getting into the shedding period where her eyes are blue. When I took her into the enclosure, she was really curious and went around the left side of the tank where I have the hanging/hiding plants and her water dish. She also came out the next morning for a little bit after she heard my voice. I was saying good morning to her, basically talking to myself, allowing her to get used to my voice. But I had to turn on my AC to cool down the room and to dehumidify it a bit and it was so loud, she just dipped and I haven't really seen her since. (I've gotten a newer and much quiter AC since then).

I understand that she's burrowing and will be burrowed for days while she's in shed mode. While she's burrowed in the Aspen, would it be okay if I took out that rock, move her humid hide there instead, and add some more fake plants for hiding when she eventually comes out? Or will making noise and vibrations from moving things stress her out during the shed? Pics of Lemon exploring for snake tax 😊 🍋

Thermostat suggestions for baby MBK

Hello, it's first time nervous snake mom again 😅 I recently bought this thermostat and during the last couple days of the heat wave that I've been having here, it's been so doing a good job keeping the temps regulated to Lemon's needs. I noticed the temperature probe for my thermostat never matched my temperature gun, but I did the math and it's been about 6-8°F off and was consistent during the heat wave.

However, since the humidity and the heat has surpassed, the temperature had to be re-done dramatically this AM after the basking lamp and CHE turned on. The temperature difference was actually higher than 6°F according to my temperature gun vs the thermostat now that I don't need my AC on. I re-regulated the temps and it's now up-to-date with the pictures that I have here. Does anyone else recommend a different kind of thermostat or do I need to put the probe somewhere else? Snake tax in the pics!

Travel and Home tanks for my first MBK!

First and foremost, I just wanted to thank you guys here in this forum! I've been asking a lot of questions lately the past few days because I'm finally picking up my MBK tomorrow morning and this is the first reptile I've ever owned. I'm trying not to be too nervous of a new snake mom, but I can't help myself, so I'd like your opinions on these tanks that I have: one for travel and one for home.

The first picture is the tank I'm planning to bring her home in when I pick her up. I covered the sides with a scenery background do she doesn't get overwhelmed (taped on the outside). Please be honest, is that too much? I also put some fake pothos leaves in there so she can have a place to take cover. I didn't think to get a proper smaller hide 🫠 Although I probably could buy that at the reptile store where I'm picking her up unless they just give me one.

The second pic is the home tank and I'd like like to know what you guys think of the setup so far! The same background I used for the travel tank is taped on the wall behind this one as that's all I had left 😅 I have damp moss for hydration and to keep the humidity level up a bit in the tan hide on the warm side (humidity has been a consistent 45%-55%). The big wooden cave has a lot of those pothos plants behind it, the driftwood for climbing, and I have only one rock near the heat lamp. I had another grey flat rock, but it got too hot too quickly, and I think I need to switch out my daylight bulb.

I have a 100W daylight bulb and a 60W basking bulb at the moment, but it got up to about 93°F on the rock and even on top of the moss hide with both of them turned on. I had a 100W basking bulb but found out that was too hot, and the only option I could find in person to test right away was the 60W. The 60W alone got the rock up to 88°F and I'm waiting for my UVB tubular bulb to come on Sunday. I was supposed to get it today for further lught/temp testing, but the order got delayed 🙃 Any advice in placing items differently or even replacing/removing anything early tomorrow morning would be greatly appreciated!

Will an air conditioner stress out my MBK?

I recently learned watching a YouTube video that if you can't have a dedicated reptile room, a living room is a popular place to put your snake, which is my case right now. However, if you have air conditioning in there, the noise from the air conditioning as well as watching TV could stress out the snake.

I had my AC on all day today when I was out. I used my temperature gun and the tank was 68.5°F. I have not set it up with my lights or anything yet (will do tomorrow, getting my MBK this weekend), but I'm worried that it still might be too cold if I have the AC on all day so that my apartment is cool enough for me, though I'm willing to not blast it on the highest setting if it comes to that-- we're currently going through a heatwave on the east coast of the USA which is why I did that earlier today 🥵

I'm thinking to possibly put my snake in my bedroom. It's on the other side of the wall of the living room and I open my door to let some of the cool air in, but it's not by a whole lot. The temperature in my bedroom was about 74°F after I got home. I usually keep my bedroom door closed (but now I have it open by a few inches) when I go to bed and have a tall oscillating fan going to keep me cool enough at night. My temperature gun currently reads ~78°F now due to the heatwave.

The only other option I can think of is a decent sized coat closet in my living room that's next to a back door leading to the yard. It's big enough to fit my 36”×18”×18” tank and the table it sits on. I would keep the door partially open to let in air and to help eliminate the AC and TV noise. The closet is in the corner of the same wall where the tank is now, and the AC is across from that wall (livingroom is ~400 sq ft).

I live in a 1 bedroom single floor in-law apartment that's attached to my landlord's house, so I have limited options regarding space. Any ideas and encouragement is welcome. Thank you for taking the time to read all of this!
