A scene

TW; mentioned child abuse

Warm lights illuminate the ceiling, warm smiles greet me from tables, ones that are my partners in research, my colleagues, my fellow researchers and others I do not know. It stirs an overflowing emotion in my heart. I am getting so much of it—the happiness, the satisfaction, the triumph of achieving what I always have wanted and feeling like I am home, exactly where I am supposed to be. A warm hand touches my shoulder, it does not elicit any pleasurable emotion, just a cold, nerve racking realization. It is my father, my mom beside him.

“Smile! Oh my beautiful, I am so proud of you” he tells me, tears forming in his eyes. To me—who does not reek of remotely any joy. The implication that I should be cheerful and content to see them, so subtle yet aggressive.

“No, you seem to be mistaken. You are the one who is supposed to love. Not me” I whisper.

He seems taken back, as if he did not know this. Looks at my mom and translates what I just said “She is soo happy to see us. She is amazing, isn't she?” It is funny to me how these people do not share the same memories as me. How they never seem to realise their mistakes and the abuse they made me endure. It is quite funny. They cry some more, say more nice things, and seconds become unbearable as I wait for an opening to slip and go to my home.

Around 3 am, after the party I go to my house. In my closet there is a book—a diary of sorts that I reminisce about, feel pity for the author of it and remind myself of my history. Page fifty six reads this;

“I hate you mom and dad, for thinking a conversation goes one way. For thinking you must be right, because you're older and you are my parents right? No, you are horrible. You never question why I do things, just see the outcome. I hate you dad for not intervening in what mom calls “love” . You're the most cowardly person I have had the displeasure of knowing. I hate you mom for not comprehending people are different then you, for thinking I am a doll to be molded. I am not yours, I am my own person.”

I am pretty happy with the writing do mentioning there is awakard phrasing though. ( the three “warm” are intended)

I am more concerned with whether there is enough dimension in the characters.

This me building my OC’s background. I would say they are between 19-23. I have not decided on age.

My main character!

Is there anything I should add to her moodboard? I am writing a surrealism ( fantasy but it is distorted, dream-driven landscape that rejects realistic logic) and it got pirates sooo anything you would like to see in the book if you were to read it?

SENIOR BACKPACKS!!

I want backpacks that look fun but not built like kid backpacks. Like they need actual space.

Not buying anything that is over $50, would really appreciate if they were: Scooby dooby doo, My little pony, Ninjago, winx club, george the monkey, Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Ostronauts. I wish I could go on, but really nothing else is popping in mind lol

ELA 30-1? Bit lost

Hi! So I will be in grade 12 after summer and I am scared for ELA. I can form my own opinions and present good arguments and can write average. This skills disappear when I am in class though, if I am supposed to write an essay, I freeze and can not think of even the first word to write. For reading comps I am genuinely lost at these things, I can not understand the deeper meaning behind the story and each multiple choice seems like it could be the answer. Some help please?
Other info; I had a 75% in ELA 20-1, Yes I read books, I occasionally write short stories

A second opinion on your work?

Hi! I read a LOT books, fanfictions, stories posted on platforms and a lot of time I would like to give feedback to people's writing but I am not certain whether they would take it kindly, so this is like an opportunity for me? I would love be the one to review your work and give you feedback based on what you would like to improve/worried about. So, tell me what you have been writing!

Do people see school as a social ladder???

I have a friend that is I am pretty sure using me to feed their ego because they have more friends than I do. Like when it is just the two of us? Sweetest person. If there is a group she acts as if nonexistent. I know this because she is like "Oh you my bsf, ah I trust you blah blah..." but then disappears the second we are with someone else. Or like when I make new friends or talk to new people (I have been recovering form social anxiety) she will literally look so damn shocked and say "WHO?" like an integration rather being happy for me(she knows I have social anxiety) It feels as if she is isolating me and then getting shocked when I am not her little conversation partner anymore ueghhh

I am thinking of starting club and I am a bit lost

I'm starting a research club at my school that will focus on conducting independent research projects, publishing them in free student journals, reaching out to professionals or organizations in our community, and presenting what we learn from our research. The goal is to give students more experience with real research outside, give them the opportunity to learn more about their interest and issues that affe us.

The problem Is that it is just me and one teacher that I can to brainstorm with for now(since it is summer) so I do not really have a lot of perspectives on this.

If your school had a club like this, what would you want to see?

Some questions I have are:

  • What activities would keep you interested?
  • How would you organize meetings or projects?
  • What kinds of research opportunities or events would you include?
  • Are there any challenges you think I should prepare for?
  • Is there anything that would make you want to join a club like this?

I'd really appreciate any suggestions or ideas.

I want to create a club at my school.

so it is focused on independent research and publishing them on free student journal, reaching to people in our community and presenting what we learned from our research etc but since I am only one person and have only multiple people and one teacher to consult with I am not sure what to do from here? Do you guys have any suggestion or things that you would like too see if this kind of club was in your school?

A writing friendly??

This is sort of new to me, but I am into these genres: fantasy, sci-fi, mystery/thriller, comedy/slice of life, and literary fiction.

A bit about me: I am 16, turning 17 in a month. I love dramatic plots and world-building that keep the reader up. I also love going for simple things and writing slice of life. Literary books are my cup of tea, and I am a Shakespeare nerd.

If you might be interested in this, you can DM me or ask me for stories I have written to see my style.

Looking for: 16–17 (yeah, not a lot of range, but I want people who are my age so I do not feel awkward lol). Another thing is that my time zone is MT so be aware of that.

Note: I am not writing some dumb angst that can be solved in one conversation and happened because of a miscommunication. I am also not really into extreme violence unless it serves a really big purpose (a major fight/war, etc.).
