The Balrog falls down the shaft but doesn't grab Gandalf. Does he jump in after it?
In response to a lot of replies I saw in another topic, I hadn't ever considered Gandalf had intentionally felt he needed to slay the Balrog. It always felt like he was dragged into it and if he couldn't help the fellowship he might as well kill the Balrog he is stuck falling with. Having said that I saw a lot of people saying that Gandalf felt a responsibility to kill it and that it was a potential factor that needed to be eliminated so it didn't show up at Minas Tirith, etc.
So in the story Gandalf is pulled down by the Balrog and has no choice but to journey and battle with it. Lets say it doesn't pull him down. Following the logic seemingly held by most people, he would then dive in after it to kill it, correct? Or would he continue on with the Fellowship and leave it for another day?
