Thinking of transferring to FAST Karachi for CS in 3rd Sem (from IoBM, 3.85 CGPA) Need realistic advice on credits & workload

Hey everyone,

I’m currently a BS CS student at IoBM finishing up my first year (2nd semester). I’m seriously considering transferring over to FAST Karachi for my 3rd semester because I want a more rigorous, core computing environment.

Before I make the jump, I want some raw, realistic advice from anyone who has transferred externally or knows the ground reality:

Credit Exemptions: My current CGPA is 3.85, so I’ve cleared all core modules (PF, OOP, DLD, Calc, Multivariable, Discrete) with solid grades. For those who transferred from HEC-aligned private universities, how strict is the Equivalence Committee with matching course outlines? Do they usually wipe out a lot of credits, or do core modules map over cleanly?

I know I’ll have to give the NU test again, get on the merit list, and that my GPA resets to 0.00. But how chaotic is managing a fragmented timetable as an irregular student in the 3rd semester? Is it manageable to clear freshman deficiencies (like Pak Studies/Islamiat) alongside heavy core courses like Data Structures?

I also have a 50% scholarship at IoBM that I'll be giving up to pay full fees at FAST, so I want to make sure the "FAST Tag" and the industrial edge are absolutely worth the financial trade-off and the GPA reset.

Any insights, warnings, or tips from seniors would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Ai used as I am too busy preparing for the test 🤞🏿🥀

Am I wrong for feeling unsafe around my sister after years of physical violence?

I am a 19-year-old woman and my sister is 23. We've had problems for as long as I can remember, but what bothers me is that many arguments have turned physical.

Some examples:

* When I was a child, she threw a pen at me and it hit near my eye.

* She once hit me on the head with a metal toy truck.

* Another time she hit me with metal tongs hard enough to split my head open and make me bleed.

* She has hit me with books and other objects before.

* Recently she slapped me and repeatedly hit me with a plastic bottle.

* Today she scratched my face and neck with her nails, leaving visible marks.

Whenever I complained to my parents, the focus was usually on whether I had been "disrespectful" rather than on the fact that I had been physically hurt. My mother has even told my sister in the past to hit me and my brother if we were disrespectful.

Today I finally fought back by pulling her hair after she hit me. I know that wasn't the right way to handle things, but I felt cornered and like nobody would protect me.

The biggest issue is that I genuinely fear her. I sleep in the same room as her and after incidents like this I feel anxious, unsafe, and unable to relax.

Am I overreacting for feeling unsafe, or does this sound like an unhealthy and abusive family dynamic? How would you handle this situation if you had no separate room and your family did not take your concerns seriously?

wanted some guidance!!!!

Assalamualaikum seniors, I wanted some guidance regarding entering the cybersecurity field in Pakistan.

I’m currently a CS student and confused about the best route to break into cyber. Is it better to directly aim for cybersecurity internships/certifications from the start, or first do a software/backend development internship and then transition into cyber after gaining experience?

Since cyber internships seem harder to get for beginners, I was thinking maybe doing a dev internship first and then transitioning into cybersecurity in 2 year of cs might be a better approach.

What route would you recommend based on the current market? Also, what skills or certifications should I focus on during university?

Would really appreciate honest guidance from seniors already in the field.
