Why are most philosophers atheists nowadays?

Is it because they already were atheists when started philosophy, or because philosophy studies influenced their opinion? Or because they found arguments for theism unconvincing?

what are your thoughts on Sean Carroll?

he's a renowned physicist who has argued that the Fine-Tuning Argument is awful, he seems to support the multiverse hypothesis, also seems to believe the vast size of the universe is actually an argument against God.

he believes "FTA" or the Fine-Tuning Argument is not a good argument for God, he suggests even it going *against* God, he first goes after the claim that the universe is fine-tuned for permitting life, Carroll seems to argue that we don't exactly *know* for certain whether or not these conditions are fine-tuned at all because the lack of the contrary, Carroll seems to argue that it's possible the universe could've had entirely different preconditions and still be life-permitting, we just don't know. like i said earlier in this post, Carroll is a big proponent in the "multiverse" hypothesis which as we all know has no evidence, yet Carroll argues that with the multiverse there could be millions of universes out there, but we just happen to live in one that has life-permitting components to it. am i right in thinking this still doesn't answer the question? "why is the universe so fine-tuned for life?" is the question yet the multiverse seems like a very *lackluster* answer. and Carroll also argues that if God indeed fine-tuned the universe for life it'd look vastly different, nearly the entire universe is harmful to life except one little planet which we call Earth, Carroll seems to make the suggestion that if a God fine-tuned the universe for life, it for one; wouldn't have such a vast "life-prohibiting" span and area, and also be so gigantic in the first place. then finally Carroll concludes with other arguments against God like the problem of Divine Hiddenness and the problem of evil as the little "cherry on top" of his argument.

if anyone in this sub supports the FTA i'd love to hear what your thoughts, and also everyone else. God bless!

Do you truly believe god exists?

New here on this sub. Wanted to ask if you guys really think god(s) exist(s), or is it more like a scapegoat to blame for all the evil? I’m mostly agnostic about this

it makes no sense for someone to believe in god and also have materialist views on death

apparently some Deists believes in a soul, but they are temporary along with the host body, and are ultimately destroyed after bodily death. so despite believing a higher power, they believe in eternal cessation of consciousness. so what's the point of believing a creator god in this model? because combining these 2 beliefs defeat the whole purpose, they might as well be atheist.

What should I do with the smaller sprout

So I’ve got a lemon tree (2,5 yo), two sprouts from one seed. Since this spring the one started growing much faster than the second one. Should I just them be or should I cut the smaller one?

What makes you believe in a Creator?

And what is Creator, in your opinion? Can it be a natural force? The laws of physics?

Y. Dağ, A Bayesian Analysis of Atheism, Deism, and Theism: Integrating Cosmological, Teleological, and Axiological Evidence

Was scrolling through Philpapers and found this manuscript. It seems weird that deism and atheism turned out to have pretty similar chance in the end, despite deism given lower chances on start. Want to hear your opinion

My path to deism

I recently started exploring philosophy on theism and atheism, and recently came up to conclusion that I’ll probably never become an atheist. My problem with atheism is, that it states that all our universe, life, and matter was caused by a pure accident. And even if it can be so, I found such an explanation be kinda weird, as if someone didn’t have an answer what the cause was, and just convinced themselves and others that there was no cause.

I don’t really know anything about God, and what he (it?) can be. But I’m sure for certain that such an organised, complex reality had a minimal chance of being created by accident.

So, I’m rather agnostic-deist. And I’m happy to join you here
