Ricoh GR IV lens stuck extended. Lens error during my Europe trip. What should I do?

I recently purchased a Ricoh GR IV about three weeks ago, and I’m currently traveling in Europe.

Everything was working perfectly fine until today. When I tried to turn off the camera, the lens suddenly wouldn’t retract, and the screen displayed a lens error message.

I haven’t dropped the camera, bumped it into anything, or damaged it in any way. It just happened out of nowhere.

I’ve already tried removing the battery, waiting a few minutes, and putting it back in, but nothing has worked. The lens is still stuck in the extended position.

Has anyone experienced something similar with their GR IV?

Is there anything else I can try to fix this, or does this sound like a hardware failure?

Also, since the camera is only about three weeks old, would Ricoh replace it with a brand-new unit under warranty when I return to the US, or would they only offer a repair?

I’m pretty disappointed since I bought this camera specifically for my Europe trip.

LUMIX 35mm f/1.8 vs 40mm f/2?

Just got my LUMIX S9 as my first camera and I’m new to photography! I’m going to Paris, Switzerland, and Italy with my family soon and will be taking both photos and videos.
I already have the 18–40mm and want to get my first prime. I’m stuck between the 35mm f/1.8 and 40mm f/2.

I’ll mostly shoot landscapes, family, street, food, and some portraits/videos.
Which one would you pick and why? Especially interested in hearing from people who have used both!

Upper lip drooping 24h post-op anterior bridge prep (LA swelling vs temp contours?)

Prepped an anterior bridge #7-9 on a 58yo F yesterday. Long 3-hour appointment, needed about 6 LA injections total (she couldn’t get numb)

Today (~26h post-op), she reached out saying her upper lip is hanging low and looks elongated/aged.

She has pretty noticeable vestibular swelling/tenderness at the injection sites, and the chairside temp bridge we placed has a slightly short margin and she reports that her temp feels very tight. Motor function is fine, but the lip posture is definitely displaced.

My working theory is localized vestibular edema pushing the lip out/down.

Anyone seen this kind of transient lip ptosis just from heavy LA infiltration swelling or temp bulk? How fast does the lip profile usually bounce back once the swelling drops? Or could ill-fitting temp cause this?

Is post-operative upper lip drooping strictly temporary, or is there any risk of permanent ptosis? Has anyone experienced this in similar anterior cases?

Appreciate any thoughts!

Trying to simplify investing: VT or VTI + VXUS?

I’m still deciding between just going with VT and chilling vs doing VTI/VXUS separately.

Right now I’m thinking:
Taxable brokerage: VTI + VXUS
Backdoor Roth IRA: VT

Main reason is the foreign tax credit advantage with VXUS in taxable.

What do you guys think about this setup?

Also, if I go with VTI/VXUS, what allocation would you recommend? I was thinking maybe 60/40.

For context, I’m in my late 20s and trying to invest more safely and long term after being too aggressive in the past.

Thanks!

Coming Back to Investing After a Big Loss… Need Advice

I’m in my late 20s with a stable income (6 figures), but over the past few years I lost a significant amount of money in the stock market because I treated investing more like gambling than actual investing. A lot of emotional trading, chasing momentum, panic selling, and trying to recover losses quickly. Completely my fault.

I stepped away from the market for a while, and now that I’ve recovered mentally, I want to start investing again in the safest and most boring way possible. I’ve realized I’m probably not built for high volatility or aggressive trading.

Recently I started learning more about dividend ETFs like SCHD and JEPQ, and I was thinking about maybe doing a 50/50 split between them because the steady dividends feel psychologically easier for me to hold long term.

At the same time, I know I’m still relatively young, so part of me wonders if I should just stick with VOO and chill for long-term growth instead of focusing too much on dividends this early.

For people who are more risk-averse or emotionally affected by volatility, what approach would you recommend? Dividend investing like SCHD/JEPQ, or simply buying VOO consistently and ignoring the market? Are there any other dividend or ETF combinations or portfolios you’d recommend for someone trying to rebuild wealth slowly and safely?

Thank you so much!

Hard bump/lump on the floor of my mouth (under the tongue). Could it be oral cancer? (28M)

Hi everyone,

I’m a 28-year-old healthy male. I do not smoke and I do not drink at all.

Recently, I noticed a hard bump on the floor of my mouth, right under my tongue near the lingual frenulum.

Here are the details:
- It feels quite hard to the touch, almost like a small bone or a tiny stone.
- It doesn't hurt on its own, but it gets irritated, sore, and feels a stinging/stretching sensation whenever I touch or poke it with my finger or tongue.
- The surrounding area doesn't look like a bleeding ulcer, just a firm bump with a whitish spot inside.

What is the typical treatment for something like this?

Thank you so much for your help!

Contract Renewal Negotiation? Reasonable?

One year out of dental school working at a semi-rural small corporate office.

I’ve been producing around $80k–100k/month consistently. The office honestly was not doing very well before I started, but since then things have improved a lot. Patients seem to love me, I have good reviews, no office drama, and I’ve worked hard to build a good reputation in the community.

My contract auto-renews after one year, and I’m thinking about renegotiating before that happens.
Currently I’m on 33% collections, but the office collection rate is pretty low (around 80-85%), so I feel like my actual production isn’t fully reflected in my compensation. I also currently don’t receive PTO, only unpaid time off, which I honestly haven’t even used yet since starting.
I was thinking about asking for either: 38% collections, OR 33% production And possibly around 7 days PTO.

Does this sound unreasonable for someone one year out? Curious what others think!

Heard good things about Athens Smiles on the east side. Anyone been there recently? I’ve got a dentist appointment coming up and would love to know what to expect.
