Was thinking about the consciousness and IQ of salmon

I feel less ethical about eating salmon. As they not only feel pain like we do, but they seem to have consciousness and maybe a little intelligence.

I did find a guy who studies fish and wrote a book about the ethics and behavior of certain fish he observed. Has anyone read his book and tell us what it is about?

I am trying to be discerning over which fish I pick to eat on a pescatarian diet. But it’s hard to know which fish has the least consciousness.

Coca Cola Newest formula because they’re now off Vegan HFCS

I got a response from Coca Cola asking about if their new formula is Vegan.

“Thank you for contacting Coca-Cola!

For the most part the brands of The Coca-Cola Company in the United States do not contain ingredients derived from animals.  However, there are a few products that contain ingredients such as cochineal (which is listed on the label) and products that contain milk (which is also indicated on the label) that are derived from animals.

Also in the U.S., Coca-Cola brand products that contain milk are Core Power, fairlife, and Dunkin'.

Some of our juice products contain Vitamin D3, which is derived from lanolin.  Lanolin is a natural oil in the fiber of sheep's wool.  It is separated from the wool after the sheep's hair is cut (sheared).  Lanolin oil is obtainable without harming the sheep but may be an issue for strict vegetarians.

None of the carbonated soft drink brands of The Coca-Cola Company contain ingredients derived from mammals or poultry. We abide by the laws and practices in every country where our brands are sold. This includes countries where Islam is the principal religion such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Pakistan, whose governments have accepted our brands as suitable for consumption by members of the Muslim community.

Additionally, some of our suppliers use a common industry practice for grape juice clarification that does involve animal by-products. The gelatin used to clarify the juice is made from bovine skin.”

Healthcare for expats who are retiring there

I have some tentative plans to move to Bali as a retiree/old person. But wondering if I’d notice the difference in quality and education coming from a Western first world country. Also, if you have something like cancer, would it be smart to permanently move to places like Ubud or Seminyak or Canggu? Which cities have a good mix for expat retirees and have great quality healthcare?

What is your food craving?

What food cravings do you have when you suddenly have the urge? I often crave Chinese food when I am not necessarily hungry but feigning. Like a Mongolian beef or a chow mein would satisfy my appetite if food were to suddenly appear for my mouth.

My cat only eats Purina Fancy Feast pate and gems for wet food. She does eat any dry food. But I am having a hard time getting her on a senior/mature wet food. I wanted her to get on a senior diet. I heard Fancy Feast is the equivalent of McDonalds to cats—not sure how much truth there is in that.

She doesn’t seem to like any others. Oh well.
