Did I ruin my motor already?

I was trying to install my distributor and tried spinning the engine back just a hair, and now it sounds like this. I assume it’s my timing chain, but I’m not sure. I had the motor rebuilt at a machine shop, and I’m doing the reassembly. Plus it’s already back in the car. Please tell me I didn’t just throw all this money down the drain. Update: Oh my god guys best news ever. A few months ago I got surgery on my hand and it don’t work right. The other day I was under the car trying to get the starter in and I couldn’t bend my hand, so I left it sitting on whatever down there and said I’ll do it later. The fucking starter slipped down and got stuck in the flywheel. Starters out, no noises at all. Hooooly fuck. Thanks for everybody who told me I’m dumber than I look!

Will pay somebody to remove cones on my street

Fuck all these people on my street that think they own the street and can reserve their parking spots. I’ll pay somebody $50 to come get them all (like 6?) and I’ll hit ya up every time I need it done, cuz they’ll just keep putting them out there.

Little hiccup with the machine shop and they misplaced most of my bolts.

Does anybody know the sizes and lengths of the water pump bolts for a Buick 430? I can’t find the correct sizes online to save my life, only kits that sell them but no description. I also need the 3 bolts that lock down the alternator bracket, I believe all 3 are different lengths. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I got the new motor dropped in already, just trying to get it together.

Can I use etching primer on bare metal?

Got my brackets and pulleys down to bare metal, but no epoxy primer at the store. Is etching primer ok and then paint over?

What paint to use?

Hi everybody, I just had my engine rebuilt, and I need to paint the brackets and a couple other odds and ends around the engine bay. What paint should I be using? Cans or a spray gun is fine, I have a spray gun with a big compressor.

Picking out a lq4/lq9

What exactly should I be looking at besides compression when picking out an engine? Bunch of people local to me selling them and I don’t want to get a dud. I also don’t want to have to rip the engine apart.

ECU question

What color ECU and harness do I need for a 6.0 DBC? The standalone I’m looking at says it’s for the 6.0 DBC, and the ECU connectors are blue and red. I’ll be grabbing an unlocked ECU off eBay just to get it running and then I bring it for dyno straight from there, correct?

Who to use for home additions?

Hello everybody, I’m trying to raise my house and have a second floor added on but I’m not entirely sure who I should be calling. Do I just call a renovation company? Or am I looking for a home builder? The only contractors I know only do stuff like bathrooms/kitchens.

Anybody need help with their car?

Back again looking for some car people! I’m finally almost finished up healing from an accident, and am dying to start wrenching again. If anybody has a car that they need some work done and can’t really afford to have it fixed at a shop, reach out to me! Especially if you’ve got brakes/suspension issues! Just to be clear I do NOT have a shop or anything, just looking to help out whoever needs it

Building my first ever shed… 12x16 lean to

Just as the title says everybody! I’m looking to use tuffblocks with 4x4’s notched for 2x6’s for the floor. 2x4’s for the walls, and 2x6 for the leaning rafters. Will I be ok using all these dimensions of wood, or do I need to go up in size somewhere? I’ll be keeping some tools on one end, and the other side is gonna be more for hanging out. No tool box/ride on mower or anything like that. I’d say maybe the heaviest it will ever see is maybe an engine I’m storing in there.

Rocker shafts and rockers for a Buick 430

Hey everybody, was having my 430 rebuilt and the guy says I need new shafts and rockers, but nothing is available for the 430, only the 455. I’ve been doing some research and see some people use 455 parts, but with modifications to the oil passages. Was wondering if anybody has had any experience with this kinda thing, or maybe if somebody can make a recommendation on what I should do here.

What mufflers to use?

Got a 472 in my fleetwood that comes into a Y and goes single exhaust. Im going to be doing dual exhaust, but not sure what mufflers to throw in. I don’t want it to be roaring going down the street, but I want it to be like “huh that dont sound like a Honda coming”. Still wanna keep that kinda Cadillac class. My buick will be getting the flowmaster 40s, but that’s already dual exhaust I just gotta replace the mufflers.

Update on rust remover gel

I’m honestly surprised how well it worked. If you saw my last post that top right corner was RUSTED. I just wanted to see how good of a job it would do without cleaning it with a wire wheel or anything, and honestly it killed it. I’ll be using it some more!

How the hell am I supposed to get the rust out of the pitting?

Going crazy trying to clean and prime my floor in my car. I went crazy with the die grinder and a stripping disc, but I just can’t get into the pitting. Should I grab one of the bristle ones? Also in the second picture, I need to remove all that “rust dust” right? I’m honestly having a hard time telling if it’s surface rust or just dirt. This is my attempt at learning body work, so far I feel like I’m doing horrible haha

Anybody with an extra car body part?

Just as the title says, I’m just looking to practice doing body work and painting. If you have a fender, a hood or anything really, I’d be willing to pay if you could deliver it or I could rent a truck to move it. Obviously I’m just looking for scrap pieces, nothing in good condition. Hit me up!

Anybody with hazy headlights?

I just got me a new paint gun and need to practice using it. If anybody has an older car that the headlights are all foggy and yellow, shoot me a message if I can practice making them look good again! I’ll be sanding the headlights down and then clear coating them

Would this be a good start?

I’ll be stuck painting outside (or in a small tent) because I don’t have a garage and only a 2 car driveway. I am trying to get into paint and body so I can get another classic car and keep adding to my collection. I’ll be trying to set up some kind of canopy tent and wrapping it in plastic most likely, unless somebody can recommend something I can put over a car and it has some roll down covers or something lol. I’m currently running a 5 gal compressor (hoping it’s enough for clear on headlights), but will be getting something 20-30 gal from Harbor Freight soon enough.

u/SeymourBoobeez — 3 months ago

Is this clear ok to use on headlights?

Going to wet sand 400, 600 and 2000 then was planning on using this.

25’ Elantra Hybrid pulls to the right

Just as the title says. My Elantra has been pulling to the right since I’d say like August 25’ (Car was purchased brand new in March 25’) and Hyundai says nothing is wrong with the alignment and keeps giving me the car back. But the car still pulls to the right. Literally as soon as you let go of the steering wheel, you can see the steering wheel jerk to the right a hair. Has anybody had this issue before? I’m ready to just leave it at the dealership at this point. I didn’t buy a brand new car to be told “your alignments fine” if the alignment isn’t the issue, FIGURE OUT WHAT IS.
