Why is it when I press from this chocolate toffee the reflected light inside of it scatters?

When I was taking my first bite of it I realized that it had an empty pocket inside of it so when I was going to eat it again, I got caught up with curiosity and was wondering what it looked like when applying a little bit of pressure to it and to my surprise the reflected light from it scatters and creates a matte like effect only to become more gloss like when applying less pressure to the toffee.

Question: can a shape of an object affect the light hitting its surface?

What Pigments did Mark Rothko used in his Black on Maroon (1958)?

I’ve only realized it now that the painting is a mixed media one, which now confuses me as how the process is done. But two questions that comes to mind:

  1. Did Mark Rothko used different pigments only on certain art medium’s in question or were the pigments used on all mediums?

  2. Is there a list of pigments that he used when creating this painting in particular?

Contrail meets building corner

I like it when a contrail meets a certain corner from a building. Even if Contrails are artificial clouds, they still look cool nonetheless!

The three photos were captured back September 2025 (26th to the 28th). The first image is from the 28th and the third image is from the 26th.

What colors do you see when sleeping?

When you are sleeping in a pitch black room for some time (before you enter the REM phase), what colors do see during that moment?

I always wonder what activity is involved with the three color cones of the human eye during sleep?

If I were to make another attempt at this landscape, what advice would you suggest?

Especially for the palm trees in the picture on the second image.

I wanted to paint this in a alla prima or spontaneous way. Any suggestions on which part of the composition comes first and which part comes last?

What was Vincent Van Gogh’s work ethic during the Saint Remy period?

My question: did Van Gogh only focus on one painting and after it’s finished he’d moved on to the next? Or did he worked on multiple paintings in between depending on the drying time of his oil paints?

The impression I get when I hear that he worked on an average one painting per 4 days felt like he would focus on one painting for about 4 days and then would move on to another one is kind of strange.

How much did the drying time of his paintings played a roll on his overall work ethic?

Did Claude Monet ever made any watercolor works during his lifetime?

When I was in the Alte Nationalgalerie in Berlin back in November 2025 I saw a watercolor work by Paul Cézanne and when I was revisiting the photo of it today, it got me thinking:
"What other artists within the impressionist movement tried to do watercolor some point during their lifetime?"

Orientalism/Re-Orientalism within art.

To put it vaguely:

What would Re-orientalist art look like (as opposed to occidentalism) if Orientalism is an imitation or depiction of eastern cultures?

Is there an example of a re-orientalist art?
I couldn’t find any examples of it so I would be grateful if anyone could provide some otherwise.

Three sketches I’ve made yesterday.

The first image was purely improvised because I was trying to experiment with the colors that I recently purchased. And during the process it turned into a figurative piece of some sort.

I didn't change the name of it or whatever, it was even more funnier the way Marnie says.

When Goya was painting his black paintings, Beethoven was composing his Missa Solemnis

I can’t help but feel a sense of wonder and fascination that when Gota moved into his two storey house outside of Madrid (Quinta del Sordo (Deaf Man's Villa)) in 1819, it was also the same year that Beethoven began working on his Missa Solemnis work on the spring of 1819 (a period that lasted about four years).
To think that Goya probably worked on the paintings between 1820 - 1823, Beethoven was working on his composition between 1819 - 1823.
Just only a years difference.

I just love how seemingly two different events from two different places by two different people was happening simultaneously!

Difference between winsor & newtons half pans in professional and Cotman label?

Aside from hue differences, is there any way to know if the half pans that I am using are actually the professional ones instead of the Cotman? Like for example if I have a Prussian blue half pan but I don’t know if it is a Cotman or not, how would I know it by judging the description info from the side of the half pans?
