I might be a little biased here but frankly, I’ve been enjoying seeing all this artwork about Petra.

It’s personally made me feel more seen, more comfortable and more safe with the character, and as a result of finally finding a character I specifically relate to on an almost SPIRITUAL level at this point— it’s made me feel safe in my own skin too, honestly.

I also love seeing the artists here letting their creativity shine with the portrayal of the added struggles Petra would have to go through with her transition. Because at the end of the day, despite every struggle with adjusting to your life and such,

this is the life Petra wants. This is the identity she wants. And for a character who’s had an identity crisis for SO long, having a firm grasp on one aspect of that feels sensational. Spectacular. Amazing. Extraordinary!!!!

(Not to say I don’t feel this way with Peter, though— it’s basically like picking between two duplicates of your favorite food, except one has a very specific dessert that you cherish, greatly.)

I just wanted to hear everyone’s individual thoughts on why this trend is annoying some, getting on some people’s nerves, and why some folks genuinely don’t like it.

(I’m ignoring the obvious transphobia-elephant in the room).

I’d argue Goose choosing not to show how abstraction occurs is the most ethically, and thematically sound way she could’ve went about dealing with the abstraction plotpoints.

The obvious alternative would be showing the abstraction of certain characters, at which point, ethical concerns could reasonably be raised since it is a tragic parallel to suicide.

Depicting the process of someone losing their will to exist, and physically destroying their identity is almost no different from depicting the act itself in a metaphorical context.

It could come across as exploitative, gratuitous, and deeply triggering for some people.

Goose would’ve basically been showing certain characters taking their own lives. 😭

Its also worth mentioning that thematically and structurally, by hiding the act and showing the collateral damage, Gooseworx ethically handles the subject by focusing on the grief of the cast (Pomni, Jax, Kinger) rather than the spectacle of the victim.

I know of the parallels between Cain and Abel from the Bible, but something that always bugged me was the fact that Caine here was spelled with an “e”.

At first, I thought it was was because Goose didnt want to get any direct parallels with the biblical Cain and Abel story yet, but after the fan character Eniac began getting traction, I realized,

“Huh. Thats funny, Eniac is the first programmable computer.”

And then I realized, “Oh, Eniac is Caine backwards!”

Theres.. no way thats not Andrew’s, right?? Am I sniffing crack???

I’ve been thinking about something and wanted to hear other people’s opinions.

Why do yall think so many people are willing to extend empathy and grace to Asriel from Undertale, but not Jax from TADC?

To be clear, I’m not saying they’re the exact same character. Their circumstances, actions, and stories are obviously different. But i have noticed some similarities:

For most of Undertale, the player only knows Asriel as Flowey. A character who manipulates, hurts, and terrorizes people. He pushes away genuine connection, rejects help, and causes enormous suffering because of his grief and inability to move on from Chara’s death. Then, in the True Pacifist ending, Frisk reaches him emotionally, encapsulated by a hug. Asriel finally admits how lonely and broken he is, accepts that love is being offered to him, and lets go.

In TADC, we only know Jax as this asshole character with tiny glimpses of something else underneath, but still manipulates, hurts, and terrorizes people. He pushes away genuine connection, rejects help, and causes enormous suffering because of his grief and inability to move on from Kaufmo and Ribbit’s deaths. Then, in Episode 9, Pomni reaches him emotionally, encapsulated by a hug. Jax finally admits how lonely and broken he is, accepts that love is being offered to him, but remains abstracted.

Both of these characters’ cruelty isn’t random. It stems from grief, guilt, and self-loathing over the “deaths” of someone they cared about. They pushed people away, hurt those around them, and rejects attempts at connection because deep down they seem to be convinced that they’re beyond saving.

In both cases, you have a character who:
Hurts people they care about.
Pushes away those trying to help them.
Believes they’re unlovable.
Uses cruelty as a shield.
Eventually accepts genuine compassion from someone else.

Obviously the differences matter too.

Asriel’s grief came from Chara’s death at the hands of the humans and losing his soul, while Jax’s grief comes from Ribbit and Kaufmo’s abstraction due to Jax being in an emotionally incestuous relationship with his mother. (Im a victim of that, and I extremely see myself in Jax).

Asriel also ends his story by sacrificing himself to free everyone, while Jax’s story remains as an abstraction.

But even with those differences, I keep wondering: Why are audiences often so willing to see the wounded child underneath Flowey, but much less willing to see the wounded person underneath Jax?

Is it because Asriel’s actions are so fantastical that they’re easier to separate from reality, while Jax’s cruelty feels more personal and recognizable?

To be clear, empathy ≠ forgiveness. I’m not arguing that Jax’s actions are justified, only that I find it interesting how differently audiences respond to characters whose cruelty and pain seems rooted in grief and self-hatred.

Just got done watching the movie!!! It was honestly flawed but great, and its my favourite episode of TADC.

I talked about this to a friend after the movie, and it was about how Pomni seemed to be a combination of Ribbit and Kaufmo.

Pomni had Ribbit’s inherent kindness and want to help, and Pomni had Kaufmo’s design as a clown. Pomni seemed to have the emotional likeness of Ribbit and physical likeness of Kaufmo.

Even Jax brings attention to this from Ep1 when he said that theres two clowns now.. I think.

So its no wonder why he had a hard time connecting with Pomni. Girl was literally both of his traumas combined into one being. 😭

Ashley’s is a gun. Dangerous, impersonal, relentless, loud, and leaves no room for hesitation. One bang (if aimed well) equals a loss of life. No taksie-backsies, some regrets, and a lot of blood. A gun demands obedience, giving way for manipulation, which then allows her to enforce her will without getting her hands dirty. It's the weapon of someone who wants control without vulnerability.

Andrew’s is a cleaver. A weapon famously held by butchers, in which they get their hands dirty chopping up animal meat. Unlike a gun (when at a range), the cleaver’s more intimate, cold, and messier. Just like how Andrew does (or at least he feels like he does) the "dirty work”, the cleanup, all the bloodiness that Ashley avoids. Furthermore, a cleaver is a kitchen tool. Something ordinary turned monstrous, which is basically Andrew’s character arc: hiding his true descent under the guise of being an ordinary, normal person.

If Vought Rising was so important that they just *had* to turn The Boys S5 into its prequel, why didnt they just release Vought Rising first THEN The Boys S5? Sure, would’ve given us another 1 or 2 year-long wait and make it feel like a chore. But, and im assuming here, Vought Rising would explain the assfuckery choices Soldier Boy makes and the other characters set up in S5 😭😭😭

it also would’ve felt SO sloppy and forced, but hey, like Gustavo Edgar said, the Amazon must keep turning.. or whatever.

I dont exactly know how to phrase this, and no im not talking about her *ass*. Im talking about her face.

Does she naturally have a little more skin on her cheeks, or is it just a perspective thing? Or maybe because shes puffing out her cheeks?

I think im asking out of my own insecurities with my own cheeks. Ha ha.
