Berta dress + Etsy veil for sale!

Not sure if I want to part with it but it’s also taking up a ton of space in my closet! Paid $8k for the dress, $3k for alterations. Asking $5k! Veil was like $50 but my seamstress dip dyed it so it perfectly matches the dress. Will throw it in for free!

Anyone have a red dress I can borrow?

Going to a wedding August 29th, dress code is shades of red (no orange no pink). I’m generally a size 6 or 8, can fit S or M depending on the brand.

In west loop would be amazing but will travel for the right dress!

Does a major renovation make sense?

My husband and I bought our 2 bed/2 bath condo during covid, and as a result our interest rate is 3.25% and monthly payments are ~$2500 (bought for $485k). The condo is in a great location in downtown Chicago and is walking distance to many large tech company campuses as well as bars/restaurants. We are also in a great k-8 public school district.

Our condo is perfect for the two of us now, but we plan to have a kid in the next few years and would love a 3 bedroom. Our condo is pretty spacious, so I think an architect/interior designer could figure out how to add another bedroom and make it work with the existing space.

I think on the high end something like this would cost $200k, which seems like a lot but I also think keeping our monthly housing costs low makes a renovation like this a no brainer.

Has anyone done something like this before? Am I crazy to do something like this vs keep $200k in a brokerage account and rent a 3 bedroom?

How to move from AE to manager?

I recently moved from one big tech company to another even bigger tech company. I was an AM, more of a platform expert type person that worked with a sales exec co-seller. Now at this new company I’m an enterprise AE, but still considered an expert/specialist working with ~10 AMs.

I’d love to be a sales manager in the next 2-3 years. At that time I’ll have 6-7 years of experience all at top tier companies. How can I best position myself at this new company/new role to make that happen? I’d really like the avoid the AE-> Sr. AE -> Sr. AE II hoops so many companies can have. What are other companies or senior leaders looking for to justify promoting quickly?

Anyone down to take riding lessons?

It’s been a lifelong dream of mine to take horseback riding lessons and I found a stable not too far from me (I’m located in west loop), it’s only about a 30 minute drive. Here is the stable info: https://memorylanestables.com

The issue is I don’t have a car and it’s two hours on the train to get there 😭 I’m a 27F, I’m happy to pay for gas if anyone is interested in taking a private lesson or a group lesson with me! Rates are pretty affordable imo, I would love to make this happen! Feel free to DM if you’re interested :)

Hi everyone! I found these budget breakdown posts SUPER helpful while planning my wedding, and I can't believe it's finally my time to give back to this community. We got married at Harbor House Inn, a 2* Michelin restaurant and hotel in Northern California.

I sourced and negotiated with every vendor myself, created mood boards, creative briefs, Pinterest boards, truly EVERYTHING and had such a blast. None of these people had ever worked together before but they did a phenomenal job, and I’m so happy everything came together.

Edit: adding in the wedding website I made for us because I’m super proud of it ❤️ https://myblissandbone.com/jamesandamanda

Things that saved us money:

not everyone did every pre wedding activity

off season wedding for the area (March)

getting married mid week (ceremony was on a Wednesday)

I know I will likely get some judgement for having a midweek wedding, but my husband and I both work in tech with generous PTO, we are the youngest people in our families (most of our relatives are retired or established in their careers), and we confirmed with all VIP guests this date would work for them. This timing also allowed us to get back Thursday night and relax Friday-Sunday before returning to work which was a great transition.

This said, we did have a traditional "wedding weekend" flow:

Pre wedding activities: Total - $10,279

Day 1:

Two Napa wine tastings - $2,653

shuttle for everyone - $1770

Day 2:

Horseback riding on the beach - $1700

Welcome dinner - $4156

The wedding day: Total - $93,028

Hair/makeup: $2425

Florals: $6600

Photography: $8200

Transportation: $1300

Rentals: $4772

Stationary: $1500

DJ: $2100

Day-of Coordinator: $2300

Cake/desserts: $1051

food/bev/lodging: $61,780

decor items: $1000

Miscellaneous:

Dress: $7,955

Veil: $50

Dress bodice redone, custom sleeves: $3000

Husband's suit rental: $600ish

Husband's wedding band: $7,000

My wedding band: $700

I had so much fun planning my own wedding, I am considering doing event design on the side for other couples, so if you’re interested hit me up!! My wedding is the only experience I have, but I found that working in big tech enterprise sales gave all the project management and negotiation experience I needed. I knocked $15k off the price of our venue and $$$$s in travel fees, I also avoided several fees by closely reading and pushing back on contract language. Happy to drop insta handles for all vendors I worked with!!
