Is this low enough to have symptoms???

Hello, I’m 20 female and I’ve recently been struggling with a ton of mental health issues that appeared out of nowhere. I got my blood work done 3 months ago, and my iron was 60 mcg/dL, and my ferritin was 64 ng/mL. I also had a severely low vitamin d level. I’ve been experiencing panic attacks, brain fog, daily anxiety, dizziness, head pressure, fatigue, depression, and really bad derealization/depersonalization that has caused me to be housebound for the past 2 months. I had zero issues before this, and I want to get to the bottom of what’s causing it. A lot of women experience the same symptoms, and it’s usually caused by low iron/ferritin, but mine technically is within “normal range”. I notice my DPDR symptoms get worse, after every cycle I’ve had over the past three months, and at this point I feel brain dead. I’m not sure if this is an important fact, but I have PCOS, and have never had my own natural period. I take a hormonal birth control called Yazmin, which induces a breakthrough bleeding every month.

Can you recover from DPDR while being housebound??

Hi I’m 20 female, and for the past couple of months i developed chronic DPDR. I’ve never struggled with any mental health issues in the past, and all of a sudden one day i developed all of them. I was having daily panic attacks, derealization, brain fog, chronic fatigue, dizziness, head pressure, depression, daily anxiety, pins and needles in my hands and feet, and this overwhelming feeling of being brain dead, like a cloud was weighing over my head. I knew something was up so I went to the doctor. My vitamin d was severely low at 11, and my b12 was borderline deficient at 356. And yes my iron and ferritin were within normal range in the 60s. My derealization was manageable, but then I got prescribed the 50,000 IUs of d3, and after just one dose I swear it sent me into a different dimension and nothing has felt the same since. I became housebound, and now it’s been over 2 months. I never in a million years, would have ever thought this would happen to me. I would also like to state that I’ve been taking a b-complex daily, and I can’t really tolerate vitamin d3 anymore (even with k2 or magnesium) so I’ve quit taking them. I feel like I’m going to go insane, and I’m tired of seeing people say I need talk therapy, or exposure therapy. I am currently going on 1 month free from anxiety, and panic attacks, but instead of the DPDR fading it’s only getting worse. I’ve heard people on tik tok saying that a severely low vitamin d caused them to feel dissociated, so maybes that’s the root of my issues. I’ve lost my personality, I don’t feel connected to my family/boyfriend, and I barely recognize my memories or past experiences before this happened. I feel like I’ve been trapped in a nightmare for 2 months, and I’m just waiting to wake up from it. Is it possible to raise these levels and feel 100% myself again, without all these extra add ons like mental health meds, or therapy.

Does this sound like a thiamine deficiency???

Hi I’m a 20 year old female, and I’ve been struggling to find a root cause to my symptoms for the past 3 months. One random day I started having EXTREME DPDR, daily panic attacks, terrible anxiety, depression, brain fog, sleep issues, chronic fatigue, low energy, and a lightheaded/dizzy feeling when standing. I got all my blood work done, and the most notable issues were high inflammation markers, extremely high cortisol, fatty liver, severely low vitamin d, and a borderline b12 deficiency. I’ve tried supplementing for both of the deficiency’s, and instead of feeling significantly better, I felt significantly worse to the point I have become housebound for months. I want to preface by saying my anxiety/panic have gone away, but the DPDR is still EXTREME. That is why I don’t leave the house. I recently worked with a functional medicine clinic to get a GI map done. The results came back with a very high overgrowth of yeast. My functional medicine doctor believes this has been the root to all of my issues. I want to know if this is true, and if so can it be treated through diet alone. I’m iffy on taking all these natural herbs/supplements she keeps suggesting. I understand that’s the whole point of being holistic, but my body doesn’t do well with things like that. Please someone give me some answers. Can yeast really cause mental health issues like this, she claimed it’s because neurotoxins are flowing throughout my body due to the yeast build up.

Is this low enough to cause symptoms.

Hello, I’m 20 years old been struggling with tons of issues that have came out of nowhere. My symptoms include brain fog, sleep issues, numbness and tingling in the hands and feet, rippling on the side of my tongue, EXTREME DPDR ( feeling so brain dead, and fully on autopilot ), anxiety, panic attacks, depression, dizziness/lightheadedness upon standing, and feeling overall just super weak. I also am struggling with this head pressure/foggy feeling that will not go away. My vitamin d3 total was 11 ng/mL, and my vitamin b12 was 356.9 pg/mL. My vitamin d was so low that my doctor prescribed me the 50,000 IUs of d3 once a week for a 12 weeks. After taking just one pill a few months ago, I felt significantly worse 3 days after taking it. My anxiety and DPDR got so bad I became agoraphobic and those symptoms haven’t returned to baseline since. Ever since that pill it’s been hard to tolerate any form/amount of vitamin d3 without feeling worse and worse. I have tried taking it with magnesium and k2. As far as the b12 level goes, my doctor said it was “fine”, but I thought that was decently low so I started supplementing with a super b complex. I’ve been taking it consistently for the past 3 months and honestly don’t notice a difference. Last month I felt significantly better, but I recently just had my cycle and now I’ve fully hit rock bottom. I feel like my brain is fully turned off, and I’m just a robot going through the motions, I DO NOT FEEL PRESENT/CONNECTED at all. For some background I am a female who has struggled with DPDR before, and it ended up being due to a lack of estrogen caused by my PCOS. My endocrinologist prescribed me yazmin birth control 4 years ago, and I’ve been symptom free ever since. I did get all of my female hormones tested, but they’re hard to determine when your actively on birth control. My cortisol was 29.53 ug/dL DURING AN AFTERNOON BLOOD DRAW. I would also like to add that all of my inflammation markers were high. I knew at this point my body, had to be under some form of biological stress. I didn’t feel heard or understood by my primary care doctor, so I took my blood work to a functional medicine doctor, who read the results completely different. Instead of being only worried about the vitamin d level, she was concerned about possible absorption issues, liver problems, and gut dysbiosis. I got my results back from the GI map I had done, and the only thing I really saw was an overgrowth of yeast. The results are hard to read, so I’m struggling to interpret them, but I have a meeting with her tomorrow to hopeful set up a game plan!! I feel like my entire life has been taken from me, and I’m struggling to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I feel like I’ve lived the same day for the past 3 months, and I’m worried I’ll never get my life back. I’ve done myself a disservice by listening to other forums, and reading people’s stories saying “DPDR never goes away”, or “I’ve been agoraphobic for over 20 years, it never gets better”. I never in a million years thought this would be my life. If you made it this far, I would love to hear any similar stories to mine, or just words of encouragement. DPDR has made me feel like my life is over, and I want to know I can feel better one day. What has helped you guys????

I would also like to add that my iron was 60 ug/dL, and my ferritin was 64 ng/mL. Also around the time I got diagnosed with PCOS 4 years ago I was also diagnosed with subclinical hypothyroidism. At the time my TSH was a 10 mIU/L. I was briefly treated with levothyroxine for a month, but quickly taken off of it because my doctor claimed I was being “over medicated”. A couple months ago was the first time I’ve had blood work since then, and my TSH was a 4.11 mIU/L. My TPO antibodies were at a 10, and my t3 and t4 total were high, but my t3 and t4 free were “within normal range”.

Is this brain fog or DPDR??

I recently developed DPDR out of the blue, and it hasn’t gone away for 3 months and I’m starting to get upset on what I can do. I don’t have trauma, anxiety, panic attacks, or have even smoked weed or done psychedelics. I have this feeling of just being brain dead. I feel like I’m on autopilot 24/7, just watching my life from a far. I’ve done all the things like ignoring it, and trying to live life but it’s extremely difficult when I don’t know the root cause that could potentially be fueling this feeling. To me it feels like really bad brain fog, mixed with chronic fatigue, but it does sometimes fall in between the lines of DPDR. I have a severely low vitamin d level with my number being 11 ng/mL. I had an even worse reaction to the 50,000 IUs of d3 my doctor prescribed me, so I’m struggling to get my numbers up. I also had a borderline low b12 sitting at 356 pg/mL. I’ve recently gotten a GI map done by a functional doctor, and she found some gut dysbiosis caused by an overgrowth of yeast. I’m afraid I’ll never get my life back and feel normal again. I feel like I’ve lived the same day for 3 months. Can someone please give me some good news, that these issues might be fueling this problem. I’ve tried posting in the Vitamin d forum, but they banned me for not specifically saying my lab numbers. Posting it here to see if anyone can relate. What biological issue caused your DPDR and how did you fix it??

Can brain fog feel like derealization/depersonalization??

I have a severely low vitamin d level, and I can’t tell if I’m having extreme brain fog, or DPDR. I feel brain dead. It’s like I’m just going through the motions everyday, with zero emotion or energy being it. It feels like my head is made of cotton candy. I almost get confused, because I do feel like I’m in a dream, and disconnected from myself.

Could I have b12 issues???

Three months ago I began having daily panic attacks, and anxiety that were caused by a feeling a now know as DPDR. That feeling came out of litteraly nowhere and has driven me crazy ever since. I pushed through and finished out my semester at school, and continued working at the hospital, but I knew something was up with my body so I decided to get my labs drawn. I’ve had DPDR before and it was caused by a lack of estrogen from PCOS, and being on birth control fixed it immediately. I will note that when I skip a dose, or forget a whole pack I immediately feel that DPDR rushing back in. I have been symptom free of all of the “mental health issues” that came with my untreated PCOS for almost 4 years now. When these feelings flooded over me yet again even on birth control, I knew something else was up. My dad had been telling me months prior to get my hormones checked, beacuse I was constantly complaining of a pause in my weight loss, extreme brain fog, sleep issues, and a very low mood that almost felt like depression. When I got my most recent blood work back, the most concerning issue was my vitamin d3 total was 11.90 ng/mL. Another mildly concerning issue was my vitamin b12 was 356.9 pg/mL. I also noticed my t3 and t4 total were high, but my t3 and t4 free were within range. Apparently birth control can cause that. 4 years ago when these issues came to be my TSH was a 10 ( I was never treated for hypothyroidism ) , and in today’s blood work it was 4.11, with some TPO antibodies present ( not enough to be hashimotos ). My cortisol during an afternoon drawn was also 30.0 ug/dL. My NP also said that was most likely caused by my long term use of birth control. The only other issue I noticed in my blood work, that my NP said nothing about was that all my inflammation markers were high. This included WBC,CRP,Lymphocytes,Monocytes, and Basophils. After these results came back she prescribed me 50,000 IUs of vitamin d3 1 a week for 12 weeks. If you remember what I said above, NONE of my symptoms were affecting my daily living. They were uncomfortable to live with, but they never prevented me from going anywhere. I took my first dose of that prescription on a Monday night, and by Wednesday afternoon my DPDR got so bad that I have never left the house since ( this was 3 months ago ). I want to make it clear that before I even got blood work done, I was suspected a vitamin d deficiency because it runs in my family so I began taking 5,000 IUs of d3 for about a week before I got labs drawn, and was making time to go outside for 2-4 hours in the sun every Saturday. Everyone in my family assumed that it just shocked my system, and I should not take any more of the prescription. I began just feeling worse by the day, as well as continuing to be housebound. I started trying to take 5,000 IUs of d3 again and every single time without a doubt the DPDR would get worse. The only positive thing I’ve been able to do is take 1,500 IUs of d3 with k2 in gummy form for almost 2 weeks now. I feel like my life is over, everything I loved to do and enjoyed has been taken from me, the only positive thing the vitamin d3 did for me was remove panic attacks. Now I’m just anxious, depressed, foggy, and still continuing to have DPDR and sleep issues. Not only does it feel like I’m in a dream, but I also just don’t feel connected to myself or my life anymore. I’ll probably end up regretting writing this, because I’m honestly tired of people telling me I need therapy, or practice exposure therapy, or even be put on psych meds. In no way shape or form am I against any of that, or in denial that I need it, but I know my body and I truly believe this is being driven by something biological. I just want to know if this could be caused by a vitamin d deficiency, a borderline low b12, hormonal issues ( caused by not taking enough birth control ), histamine issues, MCAS, or even a start up of an autoimmune disease like hashimotos. I will also note I had a full GI map done, and I hade a lower end score of 4 in the gut dysbiosis category. It also said I had a big build up of yeast in my stomach. I haven’t gotten the results professionally read by my functional medicine doctor yet, but I’m getting that done on August 11th!!! I just want someone to tell me that biological issues have caused this for them and correcting the root cause pulled them out of this hell. Before I end this I also want to note that I did get my iron and ferritin tested and they were both in the 60s. Thank you so much if you read this far!!!!

Can PCOS that is poorly treated cause DPDR??

I used to struggle with DPDR when I was 17, but it went away when I started treating my PCOS with a birth control called Yazmin. I’ve been symptom free for 4 years, but over those years I noticed when I would skip several days, or forget a whole pack the DPDR would slowly come pack. I’ve never struggled with anxiety or panic attacks, until recently. I started having them daily. The panic and anxiety was caused by the DPDR, not the other way around. I’ve been housebound for 3 months because my mental health has gotten so bad. Should I increase my birth control, I’m on 3mg right now???

Could this be my root cause???

Hello, I am 20 years old and I’m battling the hardest season of my life right now. My background is that before all of this happened to me I was a happy healthy 20 year old girl getting ready to graduate school. The day before Mother’s Day I was shopping for a gift for my mother, so me and my boyfriend got up early and drove around town trying to find her a gift. On my final stop, we went into a grocery store to buy some chocolate covered strawberries. The second I walked into the store I felt “off”. I tried to push through it, but the second I got a cart and started walking further, I realized I couldn’t do it. It wasn’t a wave of anxiety that came over me, it was almost like my brain left my head. I felt super disoriented and spaced out, almost like I was confused with my surroundings. In return that sensation caused me to run out of the store, and have a panic attack that lasted over an hour. After that panic attack, that foggy DPDR feeling went away. I went back to school for a week, and continued my life with 0 issues. The next weekend I got sick with something like a common cold, it just felt like a stuffy nose and a headache. I spent most of that weekend in the bed trying to recover. On Monday I walked through the doors to school, and that same DPDR feeling flooded back over me. I was very tempted to flee the building, but instead I decided to stick it through. For a month this DPDR feeling followed me and never went away. For me it was more derealization, and I almost felt confused everywhere I went. I decided something must be up, so I decided to head to my doctor and get my labs pulled. She ran a full thyroid panel, vitamins, female hormones, and a bunch of inflammation markers. All of my inflammatory markers came back high, my vitamin d3 total was 11.90 ng/mL , and my b12 was on the lower end at 356.9 pg/mL. My cortisol was also at 30 ug/dL during an afternoon draw. She was mostly concerned about my vitamin d, so she prescribed me 50,000 IUs of vitamin d3 once a week for 12 weeks. I took my first dose of this pill on a Monday night, and by Wednesday afternoon my symptoms significantly worsened. It started with an increase in fatigue, and then it became a super out of body feeling, that was WAY worse than before. I felt so bad that I skipped school on Thursday, and stayed in bed Friday-Sunday. On Monday I drove to school, and the second I got in my car I knew something had changed. I felt so not grounded and disconnected from myself, I felt like I was fading away. I stuck the car ride out, and continued to school. I got out of the car, and started walking towards the door and when I went to open the door, it felt like my body would physically not let me step through the door. I spent 2 hours in my car crying, trying to get myself to go in because I knew if I got one more absence I would be kicked out of the program. I called my parents and told them I couldn’t do it, and proceeded to drive back home. From that day forward, I have not left my house. That day was over 2 months ago. I want to add that before I got my blood drawn, my family and I suspected a vitamin d deficiency because it’s common in our family. That month that I was struggling, before I got my blood drawn I was taking 5,000 IUs or d3 everyday and getting 4+ hours in the sun on the weekend. I genuinely was feeling better. Then after I took the megadose everything changed. Everytime I try to supplement any form or amount of vitamin d3 regardless if it’s with k2 or magnesium, that spaced out and disoriented feeling floods over me, and never returns to how it was. I honestly feel like I’ve gone insane. Overnight my entire life changed. I know struggle with daily anxiety, panic attacks, EXTREME DPDR, brain fog, sleep issues, chronic fatigue, dizziness, depression, no motivation, agoraphobia, and my hair is falling out. The only way I can describe my DPDR, is it almost feels like I’ve gone brain dead. I feel 1000% on autopilot. It’s like I’m watching someone else live my life. I feel like I’ve lived the same day for over 2 months. I’m still able to go outside and swim, and walk to my boyfriend’s house, and even walk around the neighborhood. I’m not afraid of going outside because I’m gonna have a panic attack, I’m afraid to fully leave my house because I feel EXTREMELY disoriented and high, like I could just get confused at any moment. This has been such an out of body experience, and I cannot stop thinking about how I don’t even remember what “normal” feels like. I will say that right now I am able to take a vitamin d3 gummy with k2, but it’s only 1500 IUs. I’ve done all my research on if these symptoms are normal or even related to the deficiency. Everyone on tik tok has told me they battled all of the dissociation symptoms, but they were able to take the prescription dose and it went away. I just want someone to tell me they’ve went through this, and it does get better. I don’t want to sound like an asshole, but I’m tired of being told “you need therapy”, “you need psych meds”, or even just “forget about it, and live your life and it will go away”. This DPDR intensifies everyday, even when I feel like I’m doing all the right things. I want to add that I’ve been going to a functional medicine doctor and based off of my labs , she suspects an absorption issue caused by a leaky gut, or gut dysbiosis. She even mentioned the possibility of mold exposure, or h. Pylori. Sorry to keep adding on, but I also want to say that I’ve taken a b complex for the past 3 months and don’t notice a difference on that either. I truly feel in my heart, that my DPDR/anxiety/depression are being fueled by an easily treated biological issue. I also just want to ask, if any of you have went through months of DPDR, what does it feel like to come out of it. I’m almost scared to wake up one day and be out of this, just because it’s all I’ve known for the past 3 months. Are you able to notice that you feel connected to yourself again?
