I just bought this 1997 Mercury Cougar for $2,500. I love that cars from our youth are stupid cheap and there are still clean examples rolling around. You can spend a few thousand dollars on a car, put a few thousand more into replacing worn out parts, and you get a reasonably reliable vehicle that will last you another 5-10 years. Does anyone else share my addiction to FB Marketplace cars?
I finally got around to watching the 2024 Christmas Special because I was craving some CTM and it’s the only thing I haven’t seen yet. Something I noticed in this two-parter was the brilliant sparkling aesthetic that signifies “Christmas”. The story of this one isn’t anything too dramatic outside the parameters of a normal CTM episode, unlike many of the past Christmas specials. But the episode is meant to make you actually feel like it’s Christmas. Not just in the warm fuzzy nature of the show (that’s in every episode), but in the bright popping colors and eye catching patterns that we deliberately use for the holiday season.
One of the first scenes with Dr Turner trimming his tree calls emphasis to the bright lights used on the tree. Then we have beautiful nighttime shots at the carnival. Trixie’s outfits (always amazing) really stand out here with her geometric patterned modern sweater, as well as her more traditional plaid skirt, white sweater and chunky gold necklace when she and Sister Julienne are sorting the flowers. Fred and Reggie are also dressed in bright festive outfits.
Finally, the table scapes are magnificent. The beautiful pitcher/glassware set on the table when Jeffery is visiting is hard to ignore. And the final dinner scene is like something out of an old magazine. This whole episode was an absolute sensory delight that is set up in the opening Redgrave monologue when she explains what things we love best about the season.
For the past few years I have a panic attack each morning as I transition from sleep to wake. Lasts anywhere from 1-15 minutes. Then all of a sudden, my mental state totally clears. I make coffee, I go about my day like a normal person (for the most part!) But has anyone else in our age group experienced this? Can hormone fluctuations cause this? Or am I likely having other problems? Its not like getting in the way of my everyday life. I'd just like to not wake up and completely freak out that I'm waking up. I don't want it to get worse either.
I remember when I was a little girl my mom would always shampoo and then “cream rinse” my hair at bath time. And we always had these clear bottles of Alberto VO5 that would have a matching color shampoo with a more pasty-opaque version of the conditioner. Then at one point I remember trying to force the term conditioner into our vocabulary, probably in the early 90s.
Has anyone else suddenly started to get random occurrences of vertigo? I’ve rarely ever had it before and now I get it maybe every other week. Feels like the room/my head is spinning. Usually goes away if I take a Sudafed. Is this a peri thing?
Does anyone else get less of a thrill from food? I still enjoy Italian, Mexican, pizza, and coffee, tea, wine and beer. But a lot of other things I used to consider decadent and indulgent just don’t do it for me anymore and seem underwhelming. Is this a perimenopause thing?
I’m part-way through S2 and as an 80s born kid who loves sci-fi this is just so great! But my 10 year old informs me that anyone who’s anyone is watching Stranger Things in his social group. Just wondering how old your kids are if your watching with them. My younger kid might find this a little scary (granted we watched much scarier and gorier stuff in the 80s at young ages!)
