10 months in

Haven't posted on here in awhile but my mother is around 10 months into a stage 4 NSCLC (adenocarcinoma) diagnosis and things are not looking great. She has been through 10 rounds of chemo+ keytruda. She tolerated this fairly well up until the 8th round. Her oncologist halted all treatment 3 weeks ago following a hospital stay and significant weight loss. She's down to 95lbs. Her most recent scans have showed that her main tumors has shrunk to 1/2 their original size but also shows further spread to her bones and a new 1 inch spot on her liver. The hope is that she'll be able to regain enough weight and strength to try Lumakras..which I believe is a targeted treatment? She does have a kras variant. Hospice has also been discussed a bit but she is not emotionally ready to make that transition so we're sticking with just palliative care for now. Her weight loss/lack of appetite is our biggest struggle currently. I wish there was more I could do .

Water retention question.

So I've been fluctuating between 184 and 186 for a little over 2 weeks. I'm 44F, 5'3. Starting weight was 204.2 on June 2nd. Tracking with MacroFactor and averaging about 1400-1450 cal/day.

I've been dealing with an eczema flare as well as hip pain(arthritis I think) for about a week. Would this cause water retention and the stall on the scale? My activity has been less this past week due to the hip pain but I'm still getting around 5000 steps/day and working 50hrs/week on my feet.

I'm used to the normal weight fluctuations and losing in whooses..but this is the first time I've seen a stall/increase that's lasted this long! Not sure if I should lower calories or if I'm simply retaining more water due to this annoying eczema and hip flare.

I love seeing the app working in real time

I’ve only been using MacroFactor for about 10 days. The rest of the data was pulled from Apple Heath. I know algorithms are still calibrating..but I love seeing them change with real world data!

Looking for recommendations.

My 72 yr old mother has stage 4 NSCLC. She been undergoing chemo every 3 weeks for 8-9 months. She was holding up fairly well up until 4 weeks ago. She’s had to have 2 blood transfusions in the last 5 weeks. Our main struggle at home is getting her to eat. She’s lost a significant amount of weight and is currently down to 105lbs. She’s doesn’t have much of an appetite and nothing tastes good to her. She frequently will take a bite or two and throw the rest away. She was a very picky eater to begin with so this has been quite challenging. She does still like desserts. Her oncologist has suggested protein shakes and small frequent snack size meals. He has also suggested edibles to try and up her appetite but she out right refuses that. She was initially against trying protein shakes but we finally found one she’ll actually drink..though it takes her 1-2 days to drink a single one. We’ve also been incorporating milk shakes cuz she enjoys those. I’m looking for recommendations on an unflavored protein powder that won’t change the flavor or texture of these milkshakes and other drinks. Is there one that’ll mix with water that won’t change the flavor or consistency? Or even other suggestions on how to up her calories?

Thanks in advance guys. This is tough.

Weight trend

I switched to macro factor from myfitnesspal about a week ago. I’ve been tracking since June 2nd. I synced with apple health so all data is there. I manually added the first week of June since the sync on pulled the previous 4 weeks. Why is the weight trend like 2lbs more than my actual weight? Is it cuz I’ve only been using the app for a short amount of time? How long before the trend catches up?

What’s everyone’s go to low calorie snacks?

Looking for some new ideas!

My current favorite is 1-2 Alyssa’s Healthy Oatmeal bites crumbled into a vanilla greek yogurt. At 45 calories per oatmeal bite…it’s a delicious under 200 cal snack!

Hip Pain. Looking for advice.

Hi! I'm 44 female. I've been having issues with my hips for several years. I'm without health insurance until open enrollment(beginning of year) so I'm really just looking for advice until I can see a doc. I'm not sure this is even impingement to be honest. My pain comes in flares, typically every 2-3 months. Flares tend to alternate hips but last few have been left side. Not sure what triggers these flares cuz they seemingly come out of no where. I can simply be walking normally from the kitchen to the bathroom and all of a sudden get a catching pain deep in my groin..and that is the onset of the flare. Flares usually last 5-8 days. During the flare I'll get these sharp catching pains thru out along with a periodic deep ache on the affected side. I'll be relatively ok if I'm up and moving around but as soon as I sit down...the first 10-15 steps after sitting are excruciating with sharp pain in my groin every step feeling like my whole leg is gonna give out. I can eventually 'walk it out' but the process repeats everytime I sit and get back up. And it always feels like the affected leg is longer than the other for some reason and end up walking with a limp a lot of the time during a flare. And if it effecting the right side…it hurts to drive(pain in groin while going from gas to brake vise versa). This all will gradually get better as the days go on until the flare is over. I also get periodic numbing in my upper front thighs. Unsure if that's related. The numbing happens even when not in an active flare. But hip wise I have ZERO pain in between flares. Hips always feel tight but no pain unless in an active flare. Does this sound like impingement? With potential labral tear?

Starting again

44F, 5'3 SW204.2lb, CW 200.4.

Starting again. Had a 24lb loss a couple years ago doing primarily cico. Then fell off and gained it all back. Starting point this time around is 1lb less than my starting point 2 years ago. Today marks 8 days back at it with tracking. 3.8lb loss first week which I know is mainly water weight. Sticking with 1500 cal/day for now. I want to see what the scale shows the next couple weeks to see if I need to make any adjustments. Also plan on adding some workouts in the near future. I just want to lock down and figure out calories before adding anything else.

Does 1500 cal/day seem like a good starting point with my current stats?
