Is everyone scared on their first day?

I got my NASM cert last month and started working at a big box gym a couple weeks ago. Tomorrow is my first real day training real clients, and I am so nervous!
I have my program planned out and I know instinctually I’ll be fine, but I am just so scared I will mess up, stumble on my words, or look dumb and inexperienced.

I’m just curious if a lot of you trainers out there felt this way on your first day too?

Panicking about my first day

I got my NASM certification about a month ago and was hired at a 24 hour fitness about two weeks ago, and Monday I have my very first clients. Three of them are the free introductory session that comes with a new membership and one of them is a real paid session.
I have been shadowing the other trainer, he is very knowledgeable and helpful but he totally has his own very unique style. And with all the information online and endless options of workouts to choose from, I am completely overwhelmed as to how and what I should do. Sure I took the course and I know how to navigate a gym but I am just absolutely panicked at how I should go about coaching my first few sessions.

Please don’t tell me I just need to get out there and learn as I go; i’m fully aware of this! It’s just those first few days/weeks/months that I am worried about.

Please help?!?!

Panicking about applying for jobs

Hi all. I recently got NASM certified and it’s time to find a job. I plan on applying at big box gyms to start out and gain experience, however, I still feel like I have NO idea what I’m doing.
The NASM course is ok but it really doesn’t prepare you for actually being a trainer.
What’s the best way I can get myself at least a little ready and more knowledgeable for the interview, and my first few clients, until I’m actually feeling more confident?
I don’t even want to apply bc I’m afraid they’ll have me do a role-play session , and I stand there like an idiot, totally clueless

Finished NASM course. Don’t feel ready

Ok so I just finished the NASM course. Still have to take the exam. And if you threw me into a gym right now and told me to train a client, I would have NO IDEA WHAT TO DO.
I know it takes hands on experience and a lot more training and learning to really get the hang of this but, why do I feel so completely unprepared?

Am I lousy at studying and retaining information, or was the course truly not enough?
Anyone else feel this way? Feeling very discouraged and overwhelmed. Curious to know how other people felt after the course too

How do I handle the sales side?!

I have a second interview to be a trainer at my gym. Since I’m there every day, I have become friendly with the staff. The first interview went great. Now they want to test my sales skills.

However - I am brand spankin’ new to this field. I am not even certified yet - almost done with the NASM course and hopefully certified real soon.

My question is: how can I prep for this interview?? I think it’s going to be a role play situation. But I don’t know the first thing about how to sell a personal training package at a gym.
What kinds of things do I say?!

Did you feel prepared after NASM?

I just completed chapter 20 (out of 23 chapters) and I do not feel prepared AT ALL. I’m feeling like they set you up to take the test, and then basically you just go out there and figure it out on your own.

Did anyone else feel this way after becoming certified? Does the course get better at this point toward the end and tie it all together?
I’m feeling overwhelmed and discouraged

How to prepare for my first interview at a gym?!

So I am not a certified personal trainer yet, I am currently about halfway through the NASM course. I have become friendly with the managers at my gym and have expressed interest in working as a personal trainer there once I get certified.
They are actually looking to hire a trainer soon and they got me an interview with the owner this week.

So my question is, I’m curious what types of questions they might ask me, knowing I am not certified yet? They can’t really quiz me on my knowledge, as I am still studying. I am just trying to figure out how I can be best prepared for this interview.
Any insight is really appreciated, thanks!
