Chase Bank and Kagi

I recently switched to the paid version of Kagi. It's been great I switched my PC and phone default and I also switched from Chrome to Firefox.

it's been great and I absolutely love the service

however, there is one major issue that is driving me insane. Every time I go to pay my bill Chase bank forces me to call them and the only reliable way I have found to get through their code verification even with them on the phone is to switch my password.

I thought at first it was a Firefox issue but I have the same problem with chrome.

However, I don't really see how kagi would change much considering I am going directly to Chase Bank instead of searching for it.

has anyone else had this issue and have any advice? Is my best option to get their app on my phone? I am so sick of having to call their agents but aside from getting me the code they have been for the most part unhelpful.

Door County Fish Boils

I am going to Door County for the first time this week and one of the things I have planned is to do a Fish Boil. I have never done one of these before and I am super excited. I have lived in Wisconsin my entire life so I am familiar with the Friday night fish fry but this seems entirely different. For the people who have gone to Door County is this specific to just Door county or are there other areas that do it also.

thanks

wtf is going on with fast food at this point?

I know I am probably preaching to the choir on this one but wtf is going on with fast food recently? I was going to order a pizza from pizza hut a few weeks ago and they wanted to charge a $5 or 6$ delivery fee(not as part of the tip). I said fuck it and ate something at home instead. Tonight I decided I would get pizza hut but I would drive and go get it instead. I ended up putting in my order and felt good about it. Between my wife and I it was like $16 which felt reasonable. After i completed my order I was presented with 4 completely unrelated ads. I don't even remember what they were for but what the fuck?

edit it feels like all of these fast food companies actively hate their customers and have given up on any pretense otherwise.

extra fans and ups recommendation?

I already have my build and I have had it for about 2.5 years now. However, recently I have noticed with certain games that it gets really warm. I think I am still in the safe range. Normally I wouldn't be that concerned about it but with the current price of hardware I want this pc to last for probably another 8-10 years. This build and my previous one I just went with whatever fans came with my case so I know next to nothing about fan configurations or anything like that which is why I am looking for advice. I am thinking I should add at least two more fans but I wanted to get opinions from everyone else.

here is my build https://pcpartpicker.com/list/RfJL7w

since it has been a few years I may not have matched the skus exactly but I did my best

I am also looking for a good quality UPS if anyone has any recommendations

edit I feel like I struck gold considering current market conditions and want to make sure I don't lose it over something stupid

Monitor frame rate issue

I didn't really know where else to post this so if anyone has other ideas please let me know.

I have a PC that I built in 2023 that I have been enjoying except there is one issue I haven't been able to figure out and I had just kinda given up until now.

My monitor is an acer xb27ohu. It has a max frame rate of 144hz on my old PC. On my new PC it has a max frame rate of only 120

My old system is an Intel i5 6500 and a zotac 980ti running windows 10

My new system is an amd ryzen 7 7800z3d with a 7800xtx running windows 11

I'm using the exact same cable and monitor for both computers

I'm sure it's a drivers issue but I don't remember this monitor ever having any kind of drivers and I can't find my specific model on their website

Does anyone have any suggestions? I've tried figuring this out a few different times since getting my PC with no luck

security camera setup

I am at my whits end with this and would appreciate any help. I am going on vacation soon and wanted a camera set up to keep an eye on my pet. However, with everything going on with data privacy cloud storage ai etc l I wanted to make sure I found a solution that did not have any chance of being uploaded to the cloud for any reason.

after asking around on reddit a bit I realized it should be much simpler then I thought it would be. I originally thought I would need to use home assistant but one of the suggestions was to get a reolink camera(I got the E1 if that makes any difference) and use tailscale to connect back to my home network. I have my old gaming pc still so I was thinking it would be simple to leave it on with tailscale running and still be able to use the reolink app without paying a storage fee or compromising security.

I got the camera set up and disabled remote access. I installed tailscale and got my pc set up as an exit node but I had some trouble with the subnet routes. I have my pc set up as the exit node and my phone is connected to tailscale but I can still only view the camera feed when connected to wifi. I think I made a mistake with the subnet routes but im not sure and I don't know how to find the correct subnet if I did.

im not an IT expert by any means but I can usually figure stuff out on my own but I am at a loss on this one so any help would be appreciated.

thanks

linux mint and home assistant?

I feel like this is a dumb question that has been answered before but I want to make sure I am going about this the right way.

I am going on vacation soon and I would like to have cameras set up to keep an eye on my pet while I am gone. I have an old pair of cheap cameras but they use an app and charge a fee. I want to get new cameras(reolink) and I want to be able to view them on my phone without them being linked to any external cloud servers or outside companies
I have an old windows laptop that I never used. I am planning to switch it over to linux mint but I also want to be able to use it to store and view the live feed from the cameras.

pretty much everything I have seen says to use home assistant but can you use home assistant with mint?

is there any easier way to do this that I overlooked? reolink sells a home hub/nvr that looks perfect but it seems expensive and overkill for what I am wanting and how infrequently I travel. am I missing something here?

any advice or tips would be great.

Gaming monitor and media consumption?

I'm looking into a new 4k monitor but before I pull the trigger I have a question. My current monitor is 1440p but my browser when using streaming services maxes out at 720p. One of the recommendations online was to use a streaming stick with your monitor but my current monitor only has 1 port.

If I get a new 4k monitor am I going to want an additional streaming stick in order to watch shows in 4k?

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I don't want to get a new monitor and still be stuck at 720p

I also have a different question

I'm torn between two monitors. The main difference is a $150 price tag but the more expensive model is display port 2.1 instead of 1.4.

Is the extra price worth it?

Thanks

monitor upgrade

I have a solid pc I build a couple years ago 7900 xtx with an amd ryzen 7 7800 x3d.

due to the cost I never upgraded my monitor. I am running an acer xb27ohu which is still a great monitor. However, I want to make the jump to 4k oled. I plan to hold onto my current build and this new monitor for probably 10 years.

I am between two monitors right now

msi MPG 272URX

msi MAG 272UP

the mag272 looks perfect and is at a great price especially if I wait for a sale.

the main difference that I see is the URX uses DP 2.1 versus 1.4.

I tried googling to see the difference and it seems to me that the big benefit is less compression with dp 2.1 but the current compression seems to be for the most part unnoticeable. Is there any likelihood that changes before I would want to make my next upgrade?

is it worth spending the extra $150 or am I going to be fine with the 272UP?

I am leaning more towards the 272UP but wanted other opinions due to the high cost

thanks

looking for a replacement living room TV

I tried poking around the subreddit a little bit before posting but the us/canada buyers guide was removed.

I have a bit of weird situation.

im looking for a replacement for my living room tv. My gut instinct was to start looking into oled but the tv would be right next to a large window/screen door. We also have a cat so the blinds are open a lot of the time so im thinking an oled would not be such a great idea.

im looking for something in the 50-60 inch range mostly for media consumption but also gaming. both of my current tvs have really weird and annoying issues so im looking for one that will preferably last 5 years(one tv the built in smart features crash a lot and i dont have a spare hdmi port for a roku or separate device and the other the speakers are going

since im not going oled is my next best option going to be mini led?

ideal specs

50-60 inch

120 fps(preferably variable refresh but not needed)

4 hdmi ports

longer lasting preferably 5 years.

I don't really have a set budget but id like something in the 800$ range unless spending more will get better longevity

thanks for any suggestions

Random crashes in spider man miles morales

I have a 7900 xtx and 64gb ram so I played the game absolutely cranked besides upscaling. I had a handful of crashes but they became less frequent after updating drivers. I was still able to finish the game because it's short but should I be concerned about my gpu?

Does Spider-Man 2 have similar issues?

So I played the first one on ps4 and just finished miles morales. It was a great game but I did have a handful of crashes. I updated my drivers and it got a lot better

I have a 7900xtx with 64gb of ddr5 ram so I ran the game totally cranked except for upscaling

From what little googling I did it looks to be a common issue. Is that the case or should I be worried? Does 2 have the same issue

My PC has crushed everything else I've thrown at it and it's about 2 and a half years old

Thanks
