Heists are more efficient than conversion...technically.

So, 1 key or Information costs 5 casing, and with a gang of hoodlums, 5 casing is worth 1.4 actions. Each card that consumes one key or information costs 2.4 actions, and on average, cards give you 2 making waves per action (in well-guarded, where Burglar's Progress is worth 3 mw cp). Now, the effect of the immediate cost of 10 casing technically approaches 0 the longer your heist is. So heists, should they go long enough, are worth 2 mwcp/a. However, as most people want less than around 12 making waves, this is worthless.

Also, you will eventually die to the sleeping dogs card no longer how much advantage you have. Perilous may honestly be better; you can circumvent the sleeping...dogs? with skills.

What to do after Ambitions?

I've been taking a break for a bit, but I've just come back to FL, and...what should I do? I'm doing Evo right now, but I usually like to have one short-term goal (individual Evolution goals) and one long term, for when I have spare actions but not much time. I do not yet have POSI2. What should I do?

My first victory! It was a weird one. (Spoilers for CS Enlightenment ending)

So, Edge cults are apparently totally broken. You can feed Fascination and Dread to prisoners, which I easily Abducted with my two assassins, and notoriety obviously wasn't a problem. I chanced apon a Furious Air in the Stag Door early on, so good 'ole Victor carried me through like half the game. I really like summoning, so I was screwing around with various summons, and then I got the Sunset rite. Then I tried sacrificing a Percussigant, just to see if it worked. Apparently, you can get infinite percussigants if you have a single Knock lore. Which was terrifying, but by that point, I was close to the End, so it didn't matter much (I already had Teresa, who spent like half of my game in the Talk verb doing literally nothing). I really wanted to win with a 14th order lore, but I ended up just fishing for A Splendour. I suck at making money, but just selling Spintria from contracts works well enough until your talk verb is Teresa.

A few lore things: I didn't expect the hours to be human enough to debate and so on. I sort of imagined them as fundamental forces. Could be that my character is just translating their actions to a human mindframe? Which would imply that Longs aren't as inhuman as I thought.

Teresa, the incarnation of knowledge, knows nothing. Honestly kinda disappointed that neither Ezeem nor her have much to say.

Sacrificing a Great Summon with the sunset rite doesn't anger them! Nice. I suppose for Ezeem it's basically freeing him from service, and Teresa is chill.

(from my next run) Longs apparently have the ability to totally mindblank fleshy ones? Or maybe just Lantern longs? In which case...wow, I'm trigger happy.

I love this game! It feels like being a Fallen London newb all over again.

EDIT: AAAAUGH why is Sinombre ORANGE?! That's forge colored! Like is there an actual answer, or did the art team just forget what yellow looks like

How do I get 14th order lantern lore?

10th order influence is easy, and that plus >!teresa !<plus the above lore wins me the game. but...I'm having trouble finding lantern lore, and upgrading it.

[Traveling at night] Lore question abt the series as a whole? (spoilers)

So I've played a fair bit of CS, never won, and just finished the TaN demo. There's a long under a tarp in there, but it seems to have...possessed? a human. Either that, or it considers itself separate from it's human appearance. Really, it just talks really weird. Why is that? Also, why is it under a tarp, and why does talking about it make it stronger? And why don't they want to make it stronger?

All I really know about longs is that they're relatively weak Mansus residents.

Can we ban the brigading towards r/asilksong?

Like, I have an issue with them too, but it's toxic and it really brings down this sub. It doesn't really help the problem or add anything. Also, seems to violate rule 5.

(I'd like to hear arguments for not doing it, also)

What why can't gestalts have ethics

I think just giving them one ethic point would be fair, since a) balancing and b)1 being will always have less complex beliefs than a whole civilization, but still. Like, surely a specific Wilderness can be afraid of aliens or love learning about science or believe in freedom for all (alright maybe not authoritarian/egalitarian. Rebrand them as individualist/collectivist, for all the civics that involve autonomous/directly controlled drones?). It's just kinda always annoyed me because it makes roleplaying hard, and a materialist gestalt should have buffed relations with a materialist empire.

Anyone else have titles for their characters?

You know, like how most characters go by "the addled detective" or so on instead of their name. I'm wondering what y'all have came up with for your pcs!

I personally am mulling the benefits of "the twice-entangled socialite" for my character who is mostly Society and Great Game related. I really need to fit in some wordplay, though, and I can't think of anything to go in place of socialite that makes sense for both fields.

Easy ways to clear one's hand?

I have accumulated a large amount of UP, but all of the resulting cards decrease it. Are there any convenient ways to discard these cards? The internet says leaving london (the Zee, Pickpocket's Promenade) do so, but the internet is wrong.

I'm telling you, we can revive the two types meta

Interestingly, everyone agrees there are these two types, but the exact line between them varies wildly.

Random, spoiler-heavy question about Ambitions

So, I've been doing Light Fingers, and it seems like I will (according to MF) be able to prevent the 4th City from being replaced. I happen to know that in the Heart's Desire ambition there is an option to save london from getting squished. Do all of the ambitions have a "save london" ending?

Oh god I just finished the first run

One of the paths I did is the stranger. I noticed that the path I took had 5 branches, which each had two polarizations. If we multiply that by the number of staircases, don't we get 30 endings?! Plus all of the dialogue inside of my cage, and...how much is in this game?!

EDIT: oh also it's an amazing game that somehow has realistic characters despite the absurdity of the context and so on and so forth. Figured that was a given but better safe than sorry.

Advice for an RP run?

I'm trying to run a nomad empire that is just kinda done with the raider thing. They have the technology and instincts for raiding, and like the nomadic lifestyle by now, but are just running from the Khan. In other words, diplomacy and waystations, with weapons for the worst case. Low tech. Any advice for this is appreciated.

My issue with the recent decision

It feels like requiring approval for all portrayals of characters as kids is an overstep. There are plenty of characters (lace, sherma, nuu, etc) who's age is unconfirmed. I get that it's been causing discourse because of the shipping, but they're no more real than the ships; it's all pure headcanon. A rule like 'no child portrayals in ship content' or 'posts portraying characters as children may be removed at the mod team's discretion' would be much more comfortable, I think. This just seems like it's going to hurt people who were totally unrelated to the discourse.

Early game advice?

How do you remove Notoriety? I get rid of dread by getting Fascination and I get rid of Fascination by getting Dread, but I can't seem to figure out how to get rid of Notoriety (without high moth followers).

I'll accept pointers as to which direction to investigate, but please don't say 'just read'.
