Is it common in Switzerland to get an Abmahnung for torrenting without a VPN?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering how common it is in Switzerland to receive an Abmahnung / legal warning letter for torrenting when not using a VPN.

In Germany and some other countries, it seems quite common that people get warning letters from law firms after downloading or sharing copyrighted content via torrents. Is Switzerland similar in that regard, or is it handled differently here?

I am asking because when I use my VPN, my download speeds are often extremely slow, so I’m trying to understand how risky it actually is in Switzerland compared to Germany.

To be clear: I’m not asking for advice on how to pirate or avoid consequences. I’m just interested in how this is usually treated in Switzerland from a practical/legal perspective.

Thanks!

GoMo Phone subscription

Hello, does anyone have experience with the GoMo mobile subscription? How has your experience been so far? I know they use the Salt network, but I’m wondering how the throttling and speeds are during peak times, considering they’re a lower-cost provider/MVNO.

Portainer always shows the Valkey image as outdated for Immich — how do you keep it updated?

I’m running Immich on my Linux machine and manage the stack through Portainer.

Portainer usually shows me when an image has an available update by marking it with the orange update indicator. For most Immich containers this works fine, especially when the image uses a normal tag that can be pulled again.

However, the valkey/valkey:9 image always seems to be marked as not up to date in Portainer. When I try to update it, it does not behave the same way as the other containers, and it basically stays marked as outdated.

Has anyone else run into this with the Valkey container in the Immich stack?

How do you usually make sure this container stays up to date? Do you manually repull the image and redeploy the stack, pin a specific version instead of using valkey:9, or just ignore Portainer’s warning here?

Why are some of you using NetBird instead of Tailscale?

I’ve been using Tailscale for a while and it just works, so I’m wondering why some people here seem to prefer NetBird.

Is it mainly because you can self-host more of it? Pricing? Privacy? Better ACLs? OIDC/SSO? Or is there something else I’m missing?

For people who switched from Tailscale to NetBird: was it actually worth it in day-to-day use?

I’m mainly talking about a normal homelab/selfhosted setup, not a huge company network.

iPad asks for my MacBook password to sync sensitive iCloud data, but nothing happens after entering it

I just tried to fully set up my iPad so it can sync sensitive encrypted iCloud data, such as Health data and passwords.

During the setup, it asks me to enter the password for my MacBook Air. I enter the password, but after that there is no visible way to continue. There is no checkmark, no “Done” button, no loading indicator, and nothing seems to happen. I left it sitting like this for around 15 minutes, but it never progressed.

The password is definitely correct, because I tested it directly on my MacBook Air to make sure.

Has anyone experienced this before? Is this a known iPadOS/iCloud issue, or am I missing something obvious?

The password field in the screenshot is redacted automatically but I actually typed it in.

Translation of the dialog you see in the screenshot:

Enter MacBook Air password

With the password that unlocks “MacBook Air”, you can also access your protected iCloud data on this iPad.

Is FileBrowser Quantum + OIDC safe for sensitive docs?

Hello everyone

I’m running FileBrowser Quantum as a lightweight personal cloud for sensitive documents, such as ID copies, invoices, contracts, official letters, and other important files.

My current setup looks roughly like this:

Internet
-> Reverse proxy on my domain (NGINX Proxy Manager)
  -> FileBrowser Quantum
-> OIDC login via Pocket ID

FileBrowser itself is only exposed through the reverse proxy, and I have disabled normal/local login so that authentication is handled only through OIDC / Pocket ID.

The VPS is kept updated, and I have also locked down SSH. SSH is not publicly accessible by default and can only be reached when I explicitly allow it through the provider’s firewall in the VPS control panel. So under normal conditions, the only intended public entry point is the reverse proxy.

I’m now trying to judge how reasonable this setup is from a security perspective. Would you consider this acceptable for storing sensitive personal documents, assuming the reverse proxy and OIDC setup are configured properly?

I also considered putting FileBrowser completely behind Tailscale, but in practice I would like to access it easily from different devices without having to enable Tailscale first every time and also be able to sometimes share some files with people outside of my Tailnet.

So I’m curious how others here would approach this:

Would you run FileBrowser Quantum publicly behind a reverse proxy with OIDC-only login, or would you still strongly recommend putting it behind a VPN/Tailscale for this type of data? Are there any specific hardening steps you would consider mandatory in this setup?

I recently made the jump from Brave to Firefox, and honestly, I’m kicking myself for not doing it sooner. Firefox feels noticeably faster – pages load snappier, and the whole browser just feels more responsive in daily use.

Paired with uBlock Origin (which works perfectly on Firefox, unlike the limited version on Brave), it’s honestly a no-brainer now. No creepy ads, no crypto stuff, just a clean, fast browsing experience.

If you’ve been on the fence about switching, give it a real try for a week. I’m fully converted.

I've been using Nginx Proxy Manager for years mainly because it's easy to set up and comes with a clean, user-friendly web UI. Lately, I've been thinking about switching to either Traefik or Caddy. Considering that I’m running a fairly simple homelab setup (Immich, Nextcloud, PocketID), do you think making the switch would be worth the time and effort? I’m curious if the added flexibility, performance, or features like automatic HTTPS or native Docker integration would really make a noticeable difference in my use case, or if I’d just be adding unnecessary complexity for minimal gain.

Hello

I wanted to share a browser extension I've been working on for Immich. It adds a bunch of handy shortcuts and quality-of-life features right into your browser for Immich. Available for Firefox and Chromium based browsers.

What it does:

  • Save to Immich – Right-click any image or video on the web and upload it directly to your library. Optionally add to a default album automatically.
  • Save & Share – One click to upload an asset, generate a public share link, and copy it to your clipboard. Ready to paste anywhere.
  • Smart search, everywhere
    • Popup gallery – Phone-style timeline grouped by month, with a year scrubber and quick actions on every photo (copy, share, download, open in maps (Apple or Google Maps)).
    • Google results integration – Photos from your library that match your Google search appear in a card at the top. Search stays local between your browser and your Immich – nothing sent to Google (disabled by default).
  • New tab memory feed – A random photo from your library on every new tab, plus an "On this day" strip. Optional EXIF details (camera, lens, ISO, aperture, shutter speed, focal length, dimensions). Pick a source album, set auto-rotate, or turn it off.
  • Privacy: The extension only talks to your Immich server. No analytics, no third parties, no tracking. Your API key stays on your device.

Would love any feedback, issues, or feature requests!

Hey everyone,

I just submitted my extension and got the following warning in the Chrome Web Store dashboard:

>

They suggest using activeTab or specific host permissions instead, but my extension legitimately needs access to multiple user-defined websites (it’s a productivity tool that works across different domains based on user input).

So in my manifest, I have:

json

"host_permissions": ["<all_urls>"]

I understand the security concerns, but there’s no way around it for my use case without breaking core functionality.

For those of you who have submitted an extension with broad host permissions and got flagged for “in-depth review”:

  1. How long did the review actually take in your experience?
  2. Did you have to do multiple resubmissions?
  3. Any tips to speed up the process or make the review go smoother?

Thanks in advance!
