Mister Mantis’s new home

Hello, thanks to those who shared advice on my post about the praying mantis my girlfriend found on her Brighton balcony yesterday.

I’ve now moved him to my garden so he’s no longer in an urban environment. He seemed pretty happy to be out of the box & started drinking water the second I put him on my tree fern.

Praying Mantis on 25th floor apartment balcony, South Coast. Help!

My girlfriend went out onto her balcony this morning & has found a praying mantis in the drain. I’ve never seen one of these in the UK & it seems even more unusual given that she lives 25 floors up on the South Coast.

Is there anything we can do to help the poor thing?

Where on earth has it come from?

The day a crow joined me for lunch

Stumbled across these cool photos I took of a crow in Eastbourne a few years ago.

Mad Maranta

Saw a post (I think here) the other day about how temperamental these marantas can be. Other than a little browning on some leaves (I guess from tap water) mine seems to be thriving.

I’m a novice with houseplants so I’m guessing it’s sheer luck, but either way I’m happy with how much this one has grown over the last year.

Audience feedback hack for autistic comedians…

Tried out some new stand up material last night.

[Re-posting with subtitles because the sound quality isn’t the greatest… thanks to all who commented on the last post]

Public Service Announcement: Unless you want your hands to smell like chicken shit indefinitely, then consider wearing gloves while applying these pellets.

I have washed my hands about 14 times. If anybody has any recommendations on how to remove the dreadful odour please comment below.

How to cope in a world that makes no sense: a reading recommendation…

Hello all, this is my first post here. I’m an AuDHD writer / stand up comedian from the UK.

This post would fit better in r/autismphilosophy but that doesn’t exist, so hopefully there are people here who may get something out of it.

In a world that seems increasingly irrational, polarised & unjust, it’s no surprise that rates of depression & mental illness are substantially greater in autistic people than the general population, given our propensity for logical thinking.

Trying to make sense of politics & global affairs is often overwhelming & coupled with my own day to day challenges, the impact this has had on my mental health has been profound to say the least.

So for anybody else who struggles, here’s some reading that I’d recommend:

Albert Camus - The Myth of Sisyphus

I won’t recycle the online reviews but just to provide some background… Albert Camus was a writer & philosopher who championed the philosophical theory of absurdism in the 1940s.

He argued that by embracing the absurd, rejecting societal conformity & choosing to live passionately in the face of whatever an indifferent & cold universe can throw at you, you are able to take ownership of your life & create your own joy.

Please feel free to share additional recommendations or thoughts in the comments.
