Views on MAIOs

These are out of favour now but I have found them to be extremely effective for my bipolar 2 depression. No other antidepressants work for me. I get that there are dietary restrictions but if it’s a matter of life and death in severe depression then surely it’s better than nothing. The onus is on the patient not the psychiatrist to avoid certain foods.

Personally, I think MAIOs are underrated and there should be more student training on them. Of course I’m writing as a user not prescriber. What are your views? Are older psychiatrists more likely to prescribe them than younger ones?

Recollection of timescales

My new psychiatrist asked me about hypomanic episodes. I told him about one that I experienced a few years ago. When he asked me how long it lasted, I answered only about a week. When I got home and checked,I found out it was 3 months! Is that ‘bipolar time distortion’ or is it just me?

GA Chemical Peel

I’m not sure whether this is the right site to post by I’ve got an appointment for a GA Chemical Peel and I’m really scared. How much risk is there that I will have permanent damage?

Back Pain

F63, 5ft 5, 41kg/90lbs (low but eating well), smoker, taking Lamotrigine, Quetiapine, vitamin D, Calcium. Diagnosed with Bipolar 2/cPTSD, IBS, osteoporosis + a few other things.

I hurt my lower back (sacrum I think) a few months ago. The sharp pains went away but I still have a duller type of pain that is worse when seated especially with my legs up. My feet tingle quite a lot too. Do you think I should see the doctor? I’m suffering from depression at the moment so I can’t be bothered to go unless there’s something the doctor can do or if I need a scan or something. I don’t have to pay in the UK but I don’t want to waste his time as resources are stretched here. A telephone appointment would be better but I suppose they might want to do a physical examination?

Could I please have your advice on this. Thank you in advance.

Has anyone gone through the PALS process or asked for a second opinion?

I’m thinking of asking for a second opinion or writing to PALS but am scared to do so because of the possible repercussions. I worry that they will discharge me from CMHT.

I would really like to hear from your experiences because it’s a hard decision to make let alone one that requires a lot of effort.

I really, really would appreciate your advice.
