HACP recalculated my rent and I have an overpayment. The landlady’s is evicting using retaliatory measures solely because I complied with HACP policy by letting the inspector in my apartment.

I paid my rent in the morning before I knew about the overpayment. She wouldn’t even return the 99$ in cash for June.

Being that she’s evicting me does she get to keep the overpayment?

I have asked her eight times for the money.

Why do they send it in the landlords name anyway?

Especially knowing she’s evicting me.

So I took everyone’s advice about my Shiesty landlady

I contacted rent Pittsburgh for help. All they did was offer mediation.

I contacted Neighborhood Legal Services, and got a Barbra Kerr who acted as though she could really give a rats ass about me or my case

I reached out to Daniel Lavelle. He was of no assistance whatsoever.

I sent emails to Corey O’Connor, Kari, Mosley, WPXI, Marty, Griffin, and various other people

Marty Griffin had me upload numerous videos and still didn’t help.

I am at my wits end and just decided to give up

I have faced the fact that I have to live with rats and mice running through my apartment. I have to live with a bathtub that is cracking and peeling and molding because it was painted with wall paint.

HACP is telling me yes we will issue you a new voucher, but we cannot deal with the retaliatory measures that your landlady is taking to get you out because you complied with us

I do have my first months rent, but I don’t have a security deposit and the programs out there for security deposits are only for people who are behind in their rent, so I don’t qualify.

I am going to name this landlady and I just hope that it’s safe to do it here and nobody does anything bad to me

I have started looking for places, but I am scared to tell people what’s going on because I don’t want them to think that I was the cause of any of this.

It sucks to be a renter it really does. Especially in Pittsburgh.

I did go to Oscar Petit to file because she was refusing to give me back the overpayment of $1020 but like my Pastor said I’m probably not going to see a dime of that money because even though I might win the case she’s probably not going to give it to me.

This is a really sad day to be a renter in Pittsburgh

I had to report my Landlord and an inspector came out to my house and found rat and mice droppings. The Inspector said that it was fresh droppings because they were black

He also found a gaping hole under my back door, where the mice and rats are getting in

My Landlord lives upstairs from me and she had said about a month ago that she knew she had rats in her apartment because they had bitten through bars of soap in her bathroom

She only got her apartment treated and not mine because she said that I have cats

They found other numerous violations, mainly a moldy tub that had been painted over with wall paint, no exhaust in the bathroom and the window only opens an inch, and numerous other things like a nonworking porch, light and exposed wires hanging from the hole where the light should be

the Landlord lives upstairs. I am just afraid of what she’s going to say when she gets the letter in the mail.

They’re saying that they are going to stop the subsidy if she doesn’t get these things fixed in a timely manner

I know things are going to be quite tense because every time I would ask her to get things fixed she always would ask me. When am I going month-to-month

I asked her on May 8 to please address this tub. I’ve been asking her for years to address the other issues.

I have given her more than enough time

Do any of yinz have any experience with facing a Landlord after you have reported them for health violations?

How did you handle it?

They emailed me back immediately and asked me my address.

So my question is: is it true that the initial inspection to get approved for section 8 payments was fraud? They overlooked that I don’t have a porch light,the tub and fixtures were painted with wall paint, no exhaust in bathroom and window only opens an inch. Kitchen window doesn’t open.

These things are all things I didn’t know that could fail. But the hqs person said this unit should’ve never passed at all.

Her grand daughter ( the landlady) used to be a hqs inspector so likely when the inspector came out they conveniently overlooked all the aforementioned issues.

I didn’t know any better. I was just desperate to have somewhere to live.

So when the inspector comes out what’s going to happen?

Will the inspector that did the initial inspection be in trouble for passing this apartment??

Will the landlord have to pay back all the subsidy for telling a lie?

Is this considered fraud because all of these things we’re going on for the entire time I was living here

Will I be made to move immediately?

My Worker said that the tub 🛁 alone is a health and safety issue.

Does anybody have any answers?

My recertification was due last may. Because I have a strong disability ( schizo effective disorder is one of many) I emailed my worker the Annual Recert.

Well, that worker quit. Last August I received a letter saying that I didn’t send in my recert. I sent it to the new worker along with all of my SSDI proof of income and disability requested.

Yesterday my landlord and I received letters saying that Im terminated after 30 days because my recertification hasn’t been received.

I have yet another new worker.

I emailed her the paperwork. But do Yinz think I should file a grievance because my disability limits me from coming down there in person to hand deliver the papa?

Should I get some one to send it certified mail?

Could someone with knowledge help me out with this?

I’m guessing the turnover rate is high at HACP. I can’t understand why the workers don’t show that I emailed my recertification to the previous two workers?

Edit; just wanted everybody to know that I went and submitted the paperwork to my housing specialist.

The reason why it was being rejected was because it was from 2025 and they needed one that was updated for 2026.

I was thankful that I didn’t have any medical breakdown or anything like that while I was there.

I also reported my landlady and showed the housing specialist the video of my tub and everything else that is wrong in my apartment

They gave me an email to HQS inspections and I’m waiting for them to reach out to me to let me know when they will come

She’s petrified.

The first course of chemo didn’t work.

Hence why she’s getting the biopsy.

Can anyone explain what I can tell them to give her to lessen the discomfort?

And now it has begun to peel and chip severely.

This is just a snippet of the ongoing problems I’ve had since moving here.

First roaches
Then I had to hold my window up with a hammer to keep it closed

Flooring in bathroom and kitchen is lifting up because it wasn’t installed properly

No porch light
I can’t have a washer and dryer because she said she doesn’t want an increase in her water bill

And now I’ve been in my apartment for two days with no hot water because she used a cheap plumber to come and fix a leaky valve in my apartment and they screwed things up

There’s a lot of stuff that has been going wrong here, but it’s too long of a list to make here.

Once she started asking me when am I going month-to-month when I would ask her to get things fixed I just stopped asking

I am in no position to move.

How do I get an inspector to come out and inspect the place before my usual inspection?

I need a safe space to get a advice on how to care for my niece when she is in my care

She is severely hooked on her phone. She can’t even function without it. I tried to take it away from her to teach her how to put her shoes on and she screams and goes crazy on me. I tried to take it away when she is having meals and she always screams. I need help really loudly so I have to give it back to her last night. She’s spent the night at my house and usually after a bath and a nightly walk with my dog she goes to sleep but last night she woke up at 2 AM and was just talking and moving about all over my bed. I had to put her on a Murphy bed to sleep alone because I couldn’t handle it when I told her that that that’s how our night went he said that that’s sometimes what she does at night. I’m like wow you could have warned me now. I am exhausted and all the nice activities I had planned for us today. I can’t do because I’m tired. Does anybody want to chime in and talk to me about this?
