We closed on our house today. We had to move out of state for work, so living in it wasn’t an option, and renting it out meant losing money every month.

We took a real loss, more than I’d like to admit😭😭😭. But we ran the numbers: taking the cash out now and putting it, plus what we’d keep paying every month, into the S&P 500 or even a ~6% return, versus holding and selling in 2028. Holding only came out a few tens of thousands ahead in the better scenario, which wasn’t worth the market risk or the landlord risk.

My takeaways:
• A house is a liability, not an asset, unless you can make sure it’s cash flow positive.
• Nobody can predict the future. Not the market, not rates, not where your job takes you.
• Peace of mind is worth something. I’d rather sleep well at night than hold and hope.

I hope I won’t regret it if the market bounces back next year, like people who sold in 2020? But I need to move on and focus my energy on making the money back.

Local Costcos are carrying numerous Indian sweets…Jalebi, Motichoor laddu, rasamalai, gulab jamun, assorted sweet pack (with peda, balushahi, mysore pak, kaju katli), etc

I saw them on the Eastside. I am guessing that other local Costcos will have a similar collection.

This home has been on the market since Feb & has had the list price reduce by 400k - and still remains unsold.

What's scoop on this one? From the listing info & pics, it looks like a reasonable location and home.

Anyone know of local Indian music classes for kids?

Not sure if this is common knowledge, but there are several Indian language schools in the local area, most of which cater to kids and hold classes on weekends.

My kids have been attending Gurukul for many years. It's a volunteer run non-profit organization & has been offering language classes in the area for 25+ years. They currently offer in-person classes in Hindi, Kannada, and Marathi. It’s a well-established organization with programs operating across multiple locations (Bellevue, Bothell, Maple Valley).

For kids, these organizations can be a great way to learn and stay connected to their heritage. For adults, they offer opportunities for volunteering, community involvement, and networking.

There are several other Indian language schools in the area - but, I am less familiar about them. If you know of any other schools - do share below.

This is a thing I’ve noticed in the past… let’s say 5 years. Even some places that have been around have obviously switched owners and now offer a butter chicken pizza (or something similar). Growing up, it seemed like most pizzas had a Mediterranean inspired (places like Romios were every where and you could usually find Mediterranean items on the menu), and geeek style pizza is even considered a style and were pretty common. It definitely seems like it switched— not this isn’t a totally crazy concept here either. Eg, a lot of teriyaki spots are owned by Korean immigrants. I just wonder what made the influx of Indian inspired/Indian owned pizza places start all of a sudden. Did a certain group make it easy to open up?

Again, not a complaint, just definitely something I noticed and I was wondering if anyone had any insight into it.

Let me start off saying - I know that Zillow Estimates (ZEstimates) are very approximate.

That said - I am hearing that some Eastside homes are selling for 30-40% below the pandemic-peak ZEstimate values...from 2022.

Anyone noticed this trend?

I know that Desi Tadka (Bellevue) offers breakfast on weekends...starting at 9am (Fri-Sun).
