4 western Washington cities were named among best places to live in US

Four cities on the Eastside were named to U.S. News & World Report’s 250 Best Places to Live.

Sammamish (No. 21 in the ranking), Redmond (No. 75), Bellevue (No. 90) and Kirkland (No. 151) all made the list, which was released Tuesday.

Why were there so many motorcycle cops on West Lake Sammamish Parkway past Marymoor Park?

I counted 120 before I lost count. All motorcycle cops, all agencies from cities to sheriffs to state patrol. The procession lasted over 10 minutes and they were blocking every side street for their procession. Last car was one single ambulance flanked by more bike cops. They also appeared to be jamming mobile signals.

Was it the death of an important state official?

Come to MAY-THOLOGY trivia at Soul Food this Monday the 25th!

This month's theme is mythology! Gods and heroes and monsters, oh my! If you love epic stories made up by ancient people, come show us your knowledge!

Come by this Monday the 25th from 6pm-7pm!

Gods, demigods, heroes, and benevolent spirits are welcome to attend! Monsters will require a cover charge and background check to ensure you haven't eaten anyone at previous trivia nights. I have a strict policy against contestants eating each other; it really kills the vibe when it happens.

Best scenic day trips near Seattle/Redmond with minimal hiking?

Looking for scenic mountain/waterfall day trips around Seattle/Redmond with minimal hiking. I prefer beautiful drives, viewpoints, waterfalls, lakes, and easy walks around 1 mile max round trip (or just park and enjoy views).

Currently considering:
- North Cascades / Diablo Lake
- Snoqualmie + Gold Creek Pond
- Deception Pass
- Ebey’s Landing

Would love recommendations for the best options, especially for a sunny vs cloudy/rainy weekend. Also open to hidden gems nearby!

Topo Chico Drought is Real

Look, I know this is silly, but I love Topo Chico (the basic glass bottles; non-alcoholic kind). There's been a shortage for them here in the US, so I guess I'd just make a post and ask if anyone's seen any in the area lol.

I'm not expecting anything, but keep an eye out for me, please. 🙏 At the very least, any like-minded people can grieve with me.

Redmond awards $126K for World Cup celebrations

The city of Redmond has awarded 28 organizations and businesses a total of $126,350 to support community watch party celebrations during World Cup matches this summer.

The funding is from a city grant program developed to activate public and private spaces, strengthen community connections, and celebrate the global excitement of the World Cup during the tournament from June 11-July 19, the city said in a news release. It noted that the funds will be used to support watch parties at myriad locations throughout Redmond, including for six matches in Seattle and those hosted in other cities.

Each grantee will host a World Cup event that is free and open to everyone. Grantees were selected for their ability to provide diverse opportunities appealing to a variety of community members. Examples include watch-party events hosted by Recovery Beyond, providing an experience for those in recovery or wishing for a sober family-friendly celebration; the Center for Global Muslim Life, offering a youth-focused day of activities and halal food festival; and Centro Cultural Mexicano, celebrating Mexico’s first match of the tournament with a vibrant outdoor party, the city said.

“I’m grateful to support such a diverse group of businesses and organizations who are building community excitement for the World Cup,” Mayor Angela Birney said in a statement. “I look forward to welcoming the world to Redmond to enjoy community, culture, and soccer together!”

The city has developed a collection of other World Cup-focused programs and activities. Through its Redmond is Ready for the World campaign that was unveiled last fall, the city aims to foster community pride and connection by engaging with residents and community members and supporting local businesses as they prepare for this summer, using the World Cup as a catalyst to drive Redmond’s strategies for community collaboration and district development, while celebrating the city’s vibrancy as a regional destination.

In a separate release today, the city also announced a public unveiling event at 2 p.m. on June 12 at Downtown Park to celebrate a new permanent installation of 5-foot-tall letters spelling REDMOND that are being installed to commemorate the legacy of the World Cup locally, with the sign also serving as a new gathering spot and community landmark. The letters — cast in concrete and decorated with custom porcelain overlays — feature designs that celebrate Redmond through themes of culture, technology, inclusion, and nature.

Seattle's first World Cup match is June 15, Belgium vs. Egypt.

Inefficient transit options to Woodinville

From Redmond Transit Center to Woodinville downtown area, it takes 15 mins by car but 1h30m by bus. Even pedaling on the bike would be faster than taking transit. Why is the bus service so lacking? Red-Wood road is jammed up every afternoon so it's not like there is a lack of demand.

Average rent increases?

Long time Redmond resident here, but I haven’t rented from a proper corporation in a while. I prefer to rent from owners (currently in a townhouse north of downtown). We’ve had really reasonable rent increases, around 1.5% the first year, 4.6% the second year), but back when I was renting from one of the larger apartment communities, I remember rent going up closer to 10% every year.

Family situation is changing and I’ll be on my own soon. Prefer to be close to downtown, but I’m worried I’ll move in to a place I can afford today, but will be priced out in less than say 5 years.

What are people finding as an actual increase year by year? Over longer term rentals, are you finding yourselves priced out? Has the bad news of the pricing algorithm and the controversy around it stopped communities from price gouging? (Listen, a guy can dream, can’t he?)

When does PCC stock the hot bar?

All the hot food is incredibly stepped on and old and gross looking by the time I get off work and get there at 6:30 or 7.

Cat ultrasound recommendations?

I take my cats to Brookfield and love it. But they are recommending my cat have an ECG done because he has a heart arrhythmia. They have someone come once a month and said it would be $1k for the ECG. That seems really high to me for an ultrasound and I wonder if it’s because the guy who comes charges more since he travels. I am looking for recommendations that could cost a little less, even if it’s a bit further away that’s fine.

Thanks!

Is it possible that DOL never sent me the new registration and tab?

I don’t remember if I received the mail from DOL, but I clearly paid for the renewal online for 2026 because I had the email confirmation. I just realized today that my car still has the 2025 tab and I couldn’t find the new registration. I start to wonder if they ever sent me anything because it’s unlikely that I lost both the registration and the tab (I usually apply the new tab right after I receive it).

Is there a way to get replacements?

Best Authentic Indian Food

I'm looking for recommendations from folks who are from India or have traveled to India. I realize that I probably need to travel to the east side for this, and that is fine. Open to all styles/regions as long as it isn't catering to western palates.

Now regularly seeing passed out homeless people downtown?

Two outings in a row now I saw some rough-looking gentleman lying on the ground and cant tell if he’s alive or dead. I’ve been assaulted before so I didn’t check on them. But is this normal for Redmond now?

One time it was literally in the middle of downtown park by kids playing, another by light rail, both high visibility areas which was kind of surprising

Commuting Suggestions | New to Redmond

Hi community. I'll be an intern for three months. My residence is in the North Rose Hill region, pretty close to the Costco. Office location is in Microsoft campus. Im not the fittest guy, but very excited about biking in general. Planning on commuting on pedal-bike.

I have heard there are steep hills in that route. Is it the case? Is it doable on a pedal-bike? Is it safe? Is there paved way, for bike only? THanks.

Pet adoption

Has anyone recently adopted a dog, and had a positive experience? I’ve recently started looking into adoption (owned dogs my whole childhood) and would prefer dogs that have been fostered
