First ever trip here done for?

Hi folks. I have a 5 day backpacking trip in Ouray/ridgway area traverse around sneffels. I’m from east coast and never been west of Pennsylvania. I had a family member ask me if I’m still going, knowing my trip is starting next week. I planned this a year ago. I’m now seeing all this info about the fires. Am I cooked?

Potential Move to Vermont

Hello VT friends! I’m a 26 year old male living in the NJ/NY area considering a move up to your beautiful state. I work in healthcare and can take a travel contract anywhere in the country. New Hampshire interests me most but I am not opposed to Vermont either, just wondering if it makes sense for my lifestyle. I’m big into hiking/backpacking, love New England, and have friends in and around the state including NY, Maine, and Mass. I’m already in the whites once a month anyways as well as the Adirondacks. Besides hiking I enjoy checking out new towns, cafes, just seeing what’s unique to an area. Would love to hear suggestions for places to live based on my interests. Appreciate you all ✌🏼

Presidential Traverse 6/28-6/29

Absolutely incredible experience. Had a large group of us, 8. Stayed over at lake of the clouds hut, really cool facility! Met so many cool people in the hut and on trail. Lucked out with weather. 5th photo is moonrise on left and sunset on right.

EDIT: it should say 6/27-6/28, my mistake haha!

New EMR system, is this normal?

Our clinic is transitioning EMR‘s. We are responsible to do all of the training videos on our own free time outside of work. Then once we start the new EMR, we have to do re-eval notes for every single patient. Not to mention the notes have to be done within 48 hours and we have the exact same caseload. It’s pretty stressful to think about having to write 60+ eval notes with a new system all within 48 hours. Is this normal?

Paugussett State Forest camping?

Can I setup my tent here as an overnight stop point up to New England area? Unfamiliar with CT primitive backpacking rules and regulations. If not, what state forests offer that?

Coastal Maine 3-day MDW trip

Had an absolutely fantastic time hiking and camping with my buddies up the coast of Maine. Photos from Cutler Coast, Acadia NP, and one photo from Campobello Island in Canada (with the lighthouse). Enjoy the photos!

Are there any long trails in the Daks? Looking to do a 4 day 3 night backpacking trip here in August, and was wondering if there were any long trails I could section hike

Initiated a short chill 1 night route at a local state park near me (Harriman State Park, NY, see my previous posts for photos). I can’t lie, I was definitely nervous about the idea of sleeping out in my tent in the forest overnight. I talked myself out of it so many times on the drive in and during the hike. I even planned to just eat dinner at the shelter site and then head back. I honestly was okay with that as well since there was rain in the forecast and I was getting kind of bored by myself for 4+ hours, with 4 more to go until bedtime. Ultimately I slept over in the shelter with this really cool older gentleman from a ways away. He made for great company and that eased the psychological load a lot.

I learned a few things about myself, some being easily inclined to live out of fear over faith (in things working out, not in the religious sense), or also that I have a lot of irrational worry about things, more than what I even realized.

However I’m proud of myself for getting out there solo for most of the hike in even if I had company sleeping in the lean-to. My plan going forward is to do more solo hiking to continue to build up my confidence and comfort in the outdoors by myself and perhaps a *true* solo trip is in my future. Even though being with friends is preferable for me

Had a great time here last night! Met a really cool guy who was great company and had some awesome stories. Did a 5.5 mile hike in I made on Gaia and 5.5 mile back out a different route. First backpacking trip initiated by myself and I must say shelter > tent. Excited to check out other shelters at Harriman to see how they stack up, but bald rocks sets the bar quite high.
