Ma Ya Tan and Lautie Choc comparison

I loved the Choc and when I saw all the hype around the Ma Ya Tan, I thought I'd check it out.

As you'll notice straight away, the Ma Ya Tan is a lot louder. At least, it's capacity for being quiet is a lot lower. I tuned the Choc to be as quiet as I could make it, and I tried to do the same with the Ma Ya Tan, but no amount of tuning could get it to a point where I would consider it quiet.

So instead, I gave up on quiet and just tried to make the sound as pleasing to my ear as possible. I have to say, it is one of the most satisfying sounding mechanical sliders I've used.

As for the feel; I really like the magnetic pullback at the end of a stroke with the Ma Ya Tan. The way it clicks back into place and makes a satisfying little noise is quite addicting. I like zipper style sliders so I prefer the dense track, but the standard track is quite nice too. I have the ultra-dense track in the Choc (and dual-bead slot).

The Ma Ya Tan is slightly wider and thicker than the Choc, which actually makes it feel a little nicer to hold. The Choc is very slightly heavier (I have the Zirc/SS model), but the difference is barely noticeable unless you're holding both at the same time.

I really appreciate how easy the Ma Ya Tan is to take apart, it makes it super easy to tune and tweak until you get it exactly how you like it. And since there's two tracks built in to the top plate, it means you can super easily change the feel of the slider whenever you want by just putting the plate on the other way. Both the Choc and the Ma Ya Tan have a screwless design, but the Ma Ya Tan is slightly easier to dismantle. Although, that also means it's slightly less sturdy. I'm yet to drop it, but I'm sure if I did, the plate would fall off and the balls/springs would disappear in the abyss of my carpeted floor.

Overall, I really love both. For the price, the Ma Ya Tan is awesome.

What can I show someone who's never heard of ADHD to help them understand it?

I got diagnosed fairly recently. I also just graduated from University.

My dad, who is pretty much a typical, old-fashioned, "how can you be depressed, just be happy" kind of person. Not that he's dismissive, but he just comes from a time where mental health wasn't taken seriously and he wasn't exposed to all these "modern" conditions.

Anyway, I told him about my diagnosis, and he's genuinely curious to understand what exactly it is. For context, he has never even heard of ADHD before. He doesn't know what dopamine is. I tried to explain it in simple terms with the usual "it means you can't focus" stuff, but that feels reductive and I can sense that he wants to understand it on a deeper level.

So, do you guys have any recommendations for YouTube videos or something, that does a good job at introducing the fundamentals to someone? I don't want it to just be the dictionary definition "can't focus and hyperactive" thing, but at the same time, I don't want to overwhelm him with all the details that he won't understand.

I want him to be able to understand not just what the symptoms are, but how my brain works differently, what "causes" it, etc.

Though for what it's worth, I'm very confident that he has ADHD too but doesn't know it lol.

Thanks for any suggestions :)

What's the best focal length for photography on the X9P Pro?

I'm trying to get into smartphone photography, this is the first phone I've owned with a good enough camera for it.

I don't have any of those fancy telephoto lens attachments, just the phone.

At the moment I use 3x (70mm) as I feel it looks the best most of the time. But not sure if I'm using the phone at its best potential or if there's a more "professional" focal length I should be using.

Any smartphone photographers here got some tips?

Crunchiest slider on Earth?

So after my last post on this, I decided to experiment with some other materials...

I replaced the 3mm POM balls with 3.178mm brass ones and added brass spring toppers and now it sounds... Yeah.

Not sure if crunchy is the right word to describe it but it tickles my brain like crazy.

I told myself this was going to be a quiet build but I'm having too much fun with the noises that can be generated by this thing lol.

u/SirFossils — 8 days ago

This thing sounds diabolical

Sunflare Pro with dual-track accessories, 2 ultra-dense PEEK tracks and a ball + spring in each slot for a total of 4 balls and springs in this thing...

If you're going for a quiet build, this is not the way to do it lol.

And this is with POM balls and the softest springs I own... Can't even imagine what it would sound like with glass balls...

Quiet magnetic sliders?

Hi guys,

I've always loved mechanical sliders and thought I hated magnetic ones - but I recently got a knock-off 01EDC Pod from AliExpress (don't judge I didn't know it was a knock-off until it arrived and I looked it up) and I actually quite like it. Only problem is, it's way too loud. I like to use my fidgets in public so I prefer the ones that are as close to silent as possible.

I'm not a fan of free floating/infinite sliders (like the aura sand), I prefer linear/track ones (like mechanical ones; just an up and down motion).

Are there any magnetic sliders like that which are also quiet?

Ideally I don't want to spend too much as I'm not sure yet how much I'll like magnetic, just want to experience a "decent" option to get a feel for it (under $50 would be nice).

Thanks in advance!

First thing I do when I get a new phone...

Anyone else just go on a massive case buying spree when they get a new phone?

Got my FX9Pro about a week ago and immediately bought a bunch of cases for it... If I weren't so worried about damaging my phone I wouldn't use a case at all, so I try to make sure the case I end up using is at least one that I like the look of.

None of them are as good as having no case at all, but that's a risk I'm not willing to take just yet lol

Anyone else's MOT Groove turn their fingers green?

I have the titanium upgraded Dragon model. I think it's whatever coating they've used, after using it for a while my fingers turn greenish blue and smell like iron lol.

Tuned MOT Groove... Isn't actually that bad

I've had the Groove for a few months and to be honest, I never really liked it... Something about the way it arrives stock just felt super unsatisfying to me.

I never bothered tuning it until now because I was new to the hobby and didn't feel confident, but now that I've had more practice I thought I'd see what I can do to it. And now I'm actually really happy with it.

I'm glad because I thought I had wasted my money but now I will definitely start using it.

Lautie Choc Vs $10 AliExpress alternative

These are both my quietest tuned fidgets.

I was amazed by how good of a sound and feel the STGSTAR could achieve with some tuning (shorter springs, smaller POM balls, and an extra ball/spring so that all three tracks are in use at the same time).

The Choc has been my go-to daily fidget for it's low-profile and quietness, but I've recently been trying out alternatives. I wasn't expecting much from this one for £6.21, but it's very impressive. Pretty much the same volume as the Choc (although obviously a different sound profile), and just as satisfying (if not more) to use.

In fact, I'm pretty certain the STGSTAR could be tuned to be quieter than the Choc (adding the extra ball/spring made it slightly louder, but it made it feel quite a bit nicer).

Just goes to show you don't have to pay a ridiculous amount of money to get a great fidget

Might have found my Lautie Choc killer...

I know I've posted this before but I re-tweaked and did some different mods and I like it even more now... I actually prefer it to my current Choc set up.

Tuned/Modded Sunflare Pro

Just got this piece thanks to a recommendation from someone on here on my older post!

Specs:

- POM balls

- Slightly denser and shorter springs (lubed with Tribosys 3203)

- Brass spring cap on one of the springs (felt it was a good balance as 2 felt like too much but I wanted a bit more haptic feedback - that's why you might notice it sounds slightly different depending on which way its sliding)

- Ultra-dense PEI track with end-feedback (I don't like the end feedback but they don't make an ultra-dense track without it that I can find :/)

- A bit of foam between the underside of the track and the top plate to dampen the sound and vibrations

- No buckyballs

Is there another mechanical slider anywhere near as silent as an ultra-dense plate Choc?

I love mechanical sliders. I own a huge amount of them, most of the big popular ones that get thrown around.

And yet, no matter how much I like the feel of any of them, I always default back to my Choc with the ultra-dense plate and dual-beed slot.

It's the only one that I can actually use in public (like at work) without annoying anyone else. But even with that aside, even I get sick of the noise of a mechanical slider after using it for a while.

The other "quiet" sliders I currently own are the Metal Toys Top H, the BPMods 9Grid, and the Chenyu Guardian X1... But even all of those are significantly louder than the Choc.

I'd love any recommendations for a mechanical slider that's just as quiet.

P.S. I do also love the dense zipper-like feel of this Choc setup so if anyone knows another slider with that feel I'd love to hear it :)

There is absolutely nothing wrong with nepotism.

I don't understand why anyone has a problem with nepotism. I believe if anyone was in the same position as the people they get mad at, they would do the exact same thing. You mean to tell me, if you were in a position of great privilege, you wouldn't extend that privilege to your children? You absolutely would and you're just coping by saying you wouldn't. And there is nothing wrong with that - I think it's human nature and CORRECT for everyone in society to value their own family above the rest, it's unrealistic and unnatural to say anyone shouldn't value their own family more greatly.

TL;DR: nepotism is natural human instinct, everyone would do it and those who say they wouldn't are hypocrites.

Sinian: Real Vs Fake

Above is a clone from AliExpress, below is a real Sinian Lite Youth Edition.

The real one is slightly smaller and lighter feeling, and, to state the obvious, feels much higher quality. Less rattling, more satisfying ratchet and clicking, and the tuning fork ding is less piercing, sounds less jarring and overall is more pleasurable.

Obviously the difference would be more noticeable with a titanium model rather than the lite.

Overall, I'd say while the real Sinian is nicer and more satisfying, for the price difference (I paid like $20 for the clone), the clone is still maybe 75% as good despite being less that 10% the price.

So if you can't afford the real deal, a clone from AliExpress might be just fine for you. But if your wallet is weighing you down, go for the real deal.

My EDC finally includes a fidget

I was never the kind of person who would bother to carry a fidget toy on me every day. As much as I like them at home, I'm someone who likes to carry as few things as possible. But when I got the Bean, I decided it wouldn't really be carrying anything else if I just clip it to my keys... So that's what I did. So now I have a little fidget on me no matter where I go 🙂

Do you guys carry a fidget every day? If so what's your daily carry?

Tuned Lautie CHOC makes my favourite sound ever (volume up)

Ultra-dense plate/track, dual-bead slot, stiffer springs, 3mm ceramic balls.

It's extremely quiet (I boosted the volume of this video by 40x), but so satisfying. I love zipper-style sliders.

I just wish Lautie would make ultra-dense plates in brass, since I'm not a fan of the peek aesthetically.
