Offering basic videography as an add-on?

I'm thinking about offering a basic videography add-on for just the ceremony, speeches and first dance.

Static camera(s), a couple wireless mics. Shooting in 1080p at 30fps would minimize the horsepower needed in post. I'm already at the wedding with my gear. Setting up a couple cameras doesn't seem like a huge leap in on-site work.

What's the pitfalls I'm not seeing?

I'm getting more and more people asking about video and not necessarily wanting/needing video of the getting ready or portraits. Just seems like an offering I should explore more even if it means initially offering it for free/cheap just to try out.

Denoise, then edit OR edit, then denoise?

Wedding photographer. I like the results I'm getting from denoise, especially for quasi skin smoothing.

Is there any speed/performance impact if I run denoise first, then edit? I don't mind running denoise overnight but don't want 500+ "denoised" photos impacted performance in Develop, but maybe that's not the case?

Anyone quit their DB pension job to FIRE

I'm 39 and looking to CoastFIRE at age ~45. I currently have a DB pension job but have been RTO'ed after 6 years fully remote and I fucking hate it.

My current contract lasts another 2 years and I'm considering looking for fully remote jobs elsewhere, even if it means a pay cut and loss of my DB pension.

Has anyone quit their job with a DP pension and still successfully FIRE'ed?

AI Feature Request: Auto select & remote "EXIT" signs

Wedding photographer here. Removing exit signs is a pita when editing. I don't remove them on every photo because it's too time consuming, but there's no reason to keep them in the photos.

Surely the AI Remove tool could detect and remove exit signs given how standardized they are (same size, shape, color, etc.).

Signing in to Hotmail using text - But number is a landline?

My mother has forgotten her password. I have the option to sign in via text but the number is a landline that AFAIK can't receive texts.

Any way around this?

I’m employed at a university (not faculty). Currently 39 with around 14 years punched. Eligible for a DB pension at 55. I don’t think I can hold out for another 16 years. The university is restructuring and downsizing and is just a miserable place to work at the moment. I also cannot stand full-time office work anymore and want to CoastFIRE starting around age 45. I would only quit after accepting another job FWIW.

Some additional assumptions:

  • Life expectancy is age 90
  • Wife works FT with a DB pension (and backstop for health benefits)
  • Targeting $1m invested + paid off house before officially retiring without pension considerations

If I quit now, my options are:

  • $100k in a LIRA, or
  • $14k/yr at age 65.

If I take the pension, the $14k/yr is not indexed until age 65 (~25 years from now). And even then, it’s only indexed up to a maximum of ~1.2%/yr.

Let’s assume $14k in 2026 has the spending power of ~$8k in 25 years (assuming ~2% inflation). If I go the LIRA route, I’d be targeting a “safe” 4% return (worth $267k in 25 years).

FWIW, if I stay, my pension is worth $42k/yr (not including CPP) from age 55-65, then $32k from 65 onward.

What’s my better option? $100k LIRA or $14/yr starting at 65?
