Feat or Very Rare Item?

Here I come with a question that I never thought I’d have to ask:

What is better, a free Feat or a free Very Rare Wondrous Item?

For context, my GM yesterday had a NPC offer our party of level 12 characters a choice drinking some wine that tastes horrendous, but would reveal talents we wouldn’t have pursued otherwise (a free Feat), or pick from his collection of high quality magical items, 100% safe (we get to pick a Very Rare Magic Item from an official source).

I, as a Lore Bard, am having a hard time choosing, because Feats are good, but Very Rare Items are not something I often get, let alone get to choose.

So, players and GMs of Reddit, what do you think is more interesting between a Feat or a Very Rare Magic Item?

As added relevant context, my Charisma's at 22, I already have an Amulet of Health, an armour that scales off of both Charisma and Dexterity, and an instrument that gives me +2 to spell attack and DC and allows me to give Bardic Inspiration when I teleport as an Astral Elf. Also, if I take any Feat that would increase a stat, I don't get the stat increase.

EDIT: My GM tells me I wouldn't have time to benefit from the Tome of Leadership and Influence, as I thought. The campaign pretty much ends in two or three in-game days.

EDIT 2: Because someone seems to have changed the flair of my post, I'll specify here: This is a 5E game, no 5.5E items or feats.

How Do German Bakers Get their Bread to Have such a Hard Crust?

I've been baking bread for a while, and I've been trying to get a hard crust on my bread rolls, but I've found that they soften very fast once out of the oven. Meanwhile, I've heard of the aggressively hard crust of german bread, and I've been wondering: How do you achieve that?

Just Hit Lore Bard Level 12 for 5E (Not 5.5E). ASI or Feat?

Hello roleplayers,

I'm in a 5e campaign, playing a Lore Bard, and I just hit level 12. I'm pretty sure I'll put that level in Bard again, but I'm mostly wondering if I should get Ability Score Increases, or grab a feat, and in that case, what options are interesting.

Useful info:

  • My level 11 Ability Scores are 10STR/16DEX/19CON/12INT/8WIS/20CHA. I can get to 22 Charisma, thanks to a book. Also, my actual Constitution score is 14, but I have an Amulet of Health.
  • I already have the Resilient feat for Constitution, and I have the Alert feat from my Ruined background.
  • I'm also acting as the scout of the party, for a lack of Ranger or Rogue, and am specialized in buffing and debuffing, with Healing Word as my only healing spell.
  • We are not using anything in the 5.5E (2024) edition of D&D.

I'm looking for options for feats to pick and their interactions, I've never played that high level before so I'm not super familiar with the meta at this level. To be clear, I'm not asking for the choice to be made for me, but for help having a good grasp of the options before me, to make my choice after that.

Edit for more useful info:

  • Thanks to a homebrew magic item, I got a number of bonus Bardic Inspiration equal to my proficiency Bonus (4 currently), that can only be used as Bardic Inspiration.
  • This should be my last level, but even if it's not, I shouldn't get beyond 15.

Help for Mereoleona Character Build

As the title says, I'd like some help and advice to create a character build heavily inspired by Mereoleona Vermillion, from Black Clover (which recently ended).

To give you an idea of the kind of character this is, if you don't already know, she's a brawler-type fire mage who cannot be kept down, punches her way to victory with fire, and eventually (spoiler alert) >!becomes so in tune with magic on an instinctual level that she becomes actual fire magic, burning away her own body, and even resurrects her fallen comrades in fire magic as well.!<

What I figure is that Kineticist is the way to start, but I'm not sure exactly where to go from there. We can assume that we're using the free archetype rules, and while Mereoleona is supposed to be human, we can stick to something that looks close enough to open up ancestry and heritage options.
