The World Cup is taking place. Use it as a chance to get closer to your crush

Hello everyone, I havenʼt been on this subreddit in a long time and Iʼm probably one of the most unsuitable people to learn from when it comes to approaching your crush etc. But this would have really come in handy when I had a crush and needed it.

Of course this requires your crush to care about the football/soccer World Cup! But if they do, then use your chance of such a big event taking place (of course this can also apply to other sports) – invite them to watch some game with you (maybe outdoors in public events attended by many people), get something to drink (not necessarily alcoholic) and have fun!

  1. Itʼs a rather casual (common) thing (not weird), especially if they already planned to watch the game.

  2. You show that you have the same interest (donʼt do it if you really donʼt care, thatʼs when it gets unnatural and weird, at least have some basic interest for and knowledge of football – they might also ask you about favourite teams/players etc.).

  3. You get to spend time with your crush. Thatʼs always amazing 😁

  4. You guys are experiencing emotions together. Thatʼs improving the stage of the relationship.

  5. You can maybe gently hug your crush, whether from joy about goals scored by the team youʼre supporting, or as comfort in case your team is losing and your crush cares a lot.

If anybody made some experiences – good or bad –, feel free to share them here :) I donʼt, as I currently donʼt have a crush, but I realised how convenient the World Cup is if you donʼt have other specific mutual interests (football is quite common in many parts of the world).

By the way: If you think my advice is bad, please let me and everybody here know. Itʼs just a random occasion I thought of, hoping it could help somebody, but – like I said – I didnʼt even try it out myself. I assume this could also work if youʼre bringing somebody else (or your crush does), since that makes it less awkward and still allows you to get closer to them?

Iʼm a yandere fan. I finally like tsunderes!

Hello everyone, I donʼt watch too much anime, but I found the yandere personality because I like it in real life – both being one and having one seem interesting to me. I prefer “soft” yanderes though, also as Iʼm quite submissive myself. So anyway, I donʼt know much about tsunderes, but what I saw so far just didnʼt seem interesting. Itʼs not logical to like a girl thatʼs rude to you, just so that she finally opens up to you at some point!

But hereʼs the thing: Not only is it special when a tsundere opens up (thatʼs a big step), which is great for your ego, I guess… The question is: Why I do like yanderes? Theyʼre crazy, okay, so quite unpredictable (I think thatʼs a useful skill – I hate Trump, but heʼs a good example for how being unpredictable makes everybody be careful around you), but most importantly, yanderes are strong. Iʼm short and weak and I love being overpowered or whatever you call it. And tsunderes? Well, in order to be an arrogant bitch, you have to be quite self-confident. Thatʼs also a strength. And when a tsundere would be unexpectedly rude to me, I might get scared – however, that turns me on eventually XD (because wow, that girl is sure of herself).

So yeah, Iʼm learning to appreciate tsunderes ^^ Yandere fans often say that tsunderes are awful, but theyʼre not THAT different after all. What caused the change? Watching footage from a freaking tsundere maid café. I know how cringe this is, but that made me reconsider my opinions, haha

How appreciated elementary school teachers are in European countries

Remember that in the PISA studies (to be fair, about the skills of older pupils) Estonia, Poland and Nordic countries were among the best in Europe. The teachers (at least of primary schools) in these countries however earn significantly less than elsewhere. Even in Scandinavia they earn less in the German-speaking countries, where teachers can also become Beamte (officials, just like judges are). It also surprised me that in Poland etc. they earn less than in Turkey (yes, I keep in mind that this is PPP). And that in Luxembourg, you can make six figures as a teacher in an elementary school.

Portable power station doesn’t charge laptop.

I got a portable power station by Sinkeu that is rated for 150 watts from Amazon (yes, I’m aware that it’s not a reliable professional brand). I have measured the power that my laptop charger takes right from the outlet (not just the CPU, but also the screen and the AC–DC inverter of the charger itself) and it’s definitely under 150 watts, even when rendering stuff with the GPU.

The charger itself says 170 watts, and I noticed just now that INPUT says 100–240V~2.5A which would equal 250 to 600 watts, right? I have never seen such high values taken from it, but it makes sense that the inverter also needs energy that is eventually emitted in heat, and then 170 “pure” watts can theoretically go to the laptop.

So now, the portable power station I got refused to charge a laptop that has a 65 watt charger from a friend of mine. I sent it back, considering the reviews showing that people have successfully charged their laptops with the power station. The replacement I eventually received even managed to charge my laptop – but only at first. Now, when I press on the AC button to activate the outlet, it tries twice and then shows a red triangle (overload protection?). on its screen. It doesn’t matter if the laptop is off or not, if I plug it in after pressing the AC button or beforehand etc.

I would appreciate an explanation and maybe advice in this situation. Thank you!

Where does the “up” in “straight-up” come from?

We say that something was “straight-up amazing”. I was just wondering what the “up” is doing in that word. Would it not be enough to just establish saying “that was straight amazing”? Why “up” out of all words?

I know this sounds like a complaint, but it is not. Just curiousity

Hereʼs an example (go to 3:17): https://youtu.be/07FssMN7GH8?si=cIfEDtMwEBZNEB63

Other favourites are the BBC News (of course), Polish programmes like Wydarzenia (the heavy-hitting chord at the end) and many US election intros.

Iʼm basically looking for something with a suspenseful orchestra melody, preferably some bass as well, and LOUD percussion – anything that lets you know that sh*t is getting serious. Can be a sports programme or something like that as well.

Share what youʼve got… I will appreciate it, so thanks in advance! 😁

Oh, and if this is the wrong subreddit for that stuff, then please tell me where I could post this instead – Iʼm only finding “news intro collectors” on YouTube, but not on subreddits.
