PSA: How to ACTUALLY update/downgrade your chipset drivers.

Notes:
1. This might affect your AMD GPU drivers. I have an Nvidia gpu so I have no issue there.
2. You do NOT need revo anymore.

I noticed when trying to install some different chipset version that I would get errors, saying it can’t continue due to missing files, etc.

The fix:

  1. Uninstall your chipset drivers normally (just close, don't click restart)
  2. Delete the folder “AMD” in its entirety from "C:\AMD" and "C:\Program Files (x86)\AMD".
  3. Install your preferred chipset version and click restart this time

I’ve seen a lot of people only delete “qt_dependencies”. This is NOT enough anymore. If you want a clean chipset, delete the 2 entire amd folders.

If you wanna go a step further:
Download driverstoreexplorer and AFTER doing step 2, open the program, select your leftover amd driver files (there can be a lot of them the first time you do this), check the box on “force delete” and then delete them. Then continue with step 3.

Why the extra step?
First of all, amd always leaves 3 drivers on your pc. Usually it isn’t an issue, but for a full clean slate we get rid of them

(But hey, you said there can be many of them. Now you only mention 3?)

If you installed your windows with your internet connected, (or ran windows update BEFORE installing your chipset drivers, windows update will have already thrown files in there. They do NOT get removed by amd. They’re permanently there until you manually get rid of them with driverstoreexplorer. If you wish to get them back, just run windows update after uninstalling your chipset with amd. Simple as that.

First time optimizing my 9800x3d

Hi everyone, I've gotten into this topic due to some audio crackling etc, which is affected by my voltages. I adjusted a few and the issue is minimized, but now I wanna take it a step further. My ram timings and everything seem quite different from what I see on here, so could someone help me out?

ZenTimings is wrong about "CPU VDDIO"(in reality it's 1.4). The rest is accurate. PowerDown says disabled, but it's enabled in bios together with MCR.

Weird stuttering issue

For some reason my 165hz doesn’t feel smooth anymore in certain cases, here’s the weirdness:

Nvcp/rtss frame cap at 160 for example isn’t that smooth. Normally speaking vsync alone is the smoothest (ignore input lag here) but it’s absolutely horrible. 165hz feels like 60hz. It’s like a strobing effect of low refresh rates. I’m on IPS. Gsync+vsync+reflex/ a frame cap has the same issue. It doesn’t truly feel synced anymore. I’m used to vsync being unbelievably smooth but it just feels…. Like it’s jumping between refresh rates. I can’t explain it any better.

HOWEVER. In gta weirdly enough if I enable frame gen it becomes smooth but inconsistent. Like when I move my cam, it feels like my mouse dpi changes every second. Now here’s the really strange part: turning ON ray tracing (staying at exactly the same fps) makes it smooth. So…. No ray tracing causes this weird strobing issue but turning it on which SHOULD make it worse actually improves it. Unfortunately that’s the only game where that works, and for no reason. Also, it used to be fine (last time I tried which was months ago).

I have a 4080, 9800x3d, 64gb 6000c30, 990pro nvme.

What I’ve tried so far (except what I mentioned above): -Fresh windows 11 (from usb, clearing partitions) -different bios
-bios settings such as cstates, pss, virtualisation, aspm, etc
-power plans and settings
-DDU older drivers
-different chipset drivers
-different monitor (although tough cuz it’s 75hz. Also tried single monitor with either of them)
-toggling HAGS, game mode, game bar(and all details of it), sysmain, etc
-resetting monitor to factory defaults
-probably more but I can’t remember

Games where I notice this issue: Farming sim 25 GTA v enhanced Euro truck simulator 2

Game that is perfect: League of legends

I don’t play anything else atm. Can anyone help me figure out what this is?

Hi, quick question about the scroll wheel. Mine is quite stiff, especially when scrolling slowly. I can feel in between steps that it kinda grabs/catches. It feels very unlubed. Is anyone else noticing this?
