Adjusting to the discomfort of being thinner??

I am 10-15LB away from my goal weight and starting to feel some of the discomfort that comes with having less padding. I was wondering, do you adjust eventually? Here is what I have been experiencing lately

- laying on my back resting my wrists on my ribcage while scrolling my phone and finding that pressure on my ribcage uncomfortable

- shifting a lot in my padded work chair because even with the padded seat, my butt feels uncomfortable

- not liking to sit on our wooden dining room chairs

- can't stack my knees on top of each other when I'm laying on my side

- not being able to rest my arms/elbows/wrists on a hard surface (I use cushioned pads at my desk)

The funny thing is, I still have plenty of bodyfat to spare, especially on my stomach. I'm still overweight on the BMI scale. I want to drop more fat. But I know from when I last lost weight a decade ago that there is some discomfort with being thinner.

It's not a huge issue at all and I find it kinda funny. I was just wondering if eventually I'll adjust to the discomfort and if this is just a temporary thing. Anyone else have insight from being in maintenance?

Damaged mirror cover and mirror won't turn properly

So I hit my passenger rearview mirror backing out of the garage. The cover popped off. I managed to push it back together. It still has a bit of a gap but looks decent. However, the mirror no longer will tilt up and down when I try to adjust it with the power button. It will adjust side to side but will not move at all if I try to make it tilt up and down. I checked to make sure that the mirror wasn't getting caught on anything and that there was enough space for it to tilt. I can manually tilt it by pushing on it but this is not ideal.

Any suggestions for fixing it or am I out of luck and need to replace it?

LA Fitness Closing - did any member not get a notification about this?

I have been an LA Fitness member since 12/21. I hadn't been in a week and last night I was scrolling FB and came across a post on "217 Problems" group to find out they closed. I received zero notification - no email, no push notification, nothing. It seemed pretty crappy to not notify members.

What sucks is that I do mermaid swimming and LA Fitness allowed me to use my tail in their lap pool. A lot of pools don't allow mermaid tails. The YMCA doesn't. I really liked LA Fitness. I felt it was a great gym for the price. There were so many regulars I would see in the morning; it was a little community. I'm super bummed about this. I put hundreds of hours into LA Fitness and really liked it.

Any mermaid swimmers in Springfield?

I am a local mermaid swimmer (I've swam for three years and have my Basic and Advanced Mermaid PADI). I'm looking to connect with other mermaid swimmers in the area or people with good swimming skills who are interested in learning mermaid swimming.

I feel angry on behalf of my pre-Zep self

46YOF. Always been chunky. Started dieting and exercising about age 13. I cycled through all the different diet and fitness eras - low fat, South Beach, Billy Blanks, high carb, CrossFit. I developed good muscle and cardiovascular fitness but always had anywhere from 15-30LB extra hanging on. At 5'3, that amount of weight makes a difference. It affected my self esteem and health.

I beat myself up for years and years, constantly telling myself what an undisciplined slob I was and if I could just get my stuff together that I'd have the healthy weight body I wanted. About ten years ago, I managed to white-knuckle off 20LB over the course of 2 years but it was an exhausting, miserable experience and I put it back on.

I hit my 40s and my health markers started creeping up. I moved into the obese scale on the BMI chart. My triglycerides kept going up. I was diagnosed as prediabetic. I kept trying but conventional methods were not helping. Intermittent fasting didn't help. Diet change didn't help. Metformin didn't help. Exercise didn't help.

Five months into Zepbound (4 months on 2.5 and now finishing my first box of 5.0) I have lost 16.2LB. My triglycerides went from 244 despite being on a statin to 108. My blood sugar draws dropped from 120s-140s to under 90. My always enormous appetite has gotten way smaller and more manageable. I feel like I've been freed of a prison of constantly thinking about food and restraining myself from wanting to shove the entire kitchen down my throat.

Turns out, it wasn't me all along. I just needed a little medical help. I was putting the work in. I wasn't slacking. The work just wasn't getting me where I needed to go. I just needed some help.

I feel a level of anger on behalf of my pre-Zep self. Pre Z me suffered a lot of shame, self loathing, and frustration over her inability to drop her weight and get her health back on track. I swallowed a lot of cultural messages that my health was 100% within my control and it was all my fault I had bad lab results and weight issues. I always felt like a lazy, undisciplined slob: that I should be able to live off of steamed cod and broccoli without issue and doing so would fix my health issues.

I wish I hadn't beaten myself up so much. I wasted a lot of time being mean to myself over an issue that was not fully in my control. I'm angry that pre-Zep me had to go through that. But I am so thankful that I don't have to continue down that path anymore!

Sir, it's not my fault you are hard of hearing

I do telemed health assessments on primarily a 60+ year old population. With that demographic, a lot of my patients have hearing difficulties. I do my best to speak loudly and slowly and work with patients who struggle to hear me. I can sympathize and understand that having hearing issues must be incredibly frustrating.

But what I absolutely can't stand is the patients who get angry and upset because they can't hear me and act like it's somehow my fault. I understand a lot of this is projection but it's so rude and irrational. You are the one with the hearing issue. You didn't cause it but you are the one who cannot hear. My hearing is fine. Why are you lashing out at me? I'm sitting here with my volume turned up and yelling and you are mad at me like I'm deliberately speaking softly. And these patients are always the ones that scream "HELLLLLLOOOOOOOOOO?" at sonic boom levels when they answer the phone.

I'm tired of people taking out their frustrations over their inability to hear on me.

How to Grow my Pod in Central IL (aka how to safely attract new members)

Hello all, I live in Central Illinois and I started a local mermaid pod. We meet once a month. I am interested in getting a few more members but I am very aware that mermaiding tends to bring out the merverts and I don't want to make big public posts and open our group up to a lot of creepers.

I belong to a few mermaid groups in my state but a lot of the mermaids are either in Chicago or St Louis area. I haven't really had a lot of interest when I've posted in Illinois mermaid group pages.

Any ideas? Anyone here in Central IL, feel free to PM me.

The grossness of chronic illness is getting to me

My husband has several health issues that lead to a lot of bodily grossness and frankly it is really wearing on me. My husband is mostly functional and independent and is able to work a full time job but he needs some help with daily functions and has a lot of limits to what he can do around the house. What is killing me is:

- the nonstop burping. He has a lot of gastro issues on top of a medication that has burping as a side effect. He burps so much. There's times he will burp several times within 60 seconds. OTC medication can help some but a lot of time he forgets. He gets a little defensive about this and says he can't help it but the nonstop burping is just grating on my soul.

- the bathroom issues. He frequently is on the toilet and his bowel movements can be quite loud and gross. He tries his best to tidy up but he struggles to bend down and often can't fully clean up after himself.

- the dandruff. One of his conditions is psoriatic arthritis and he has a LOT of dandruff. We have tried a lot of products and shampoos but he is not as diligent about keeping up with it and he almost always has dandruff on his clothing.

- breath - the gastro issues often causes bad breath. He will brush and use mouthwash but it isn't enough.

None of this really is his fault but one thing that is difficult is he isn't thorough enough about trying to keep these issues at bay. I'm the one researching different shampoos and skin creams, insisting he uses a tongue scraper, buying bidets for both our bathrooms. His issues just require a lot more work and diligence to manage effectively and he's not doing it.

It's frustrating because I feel like I'm constantly nagging at him for issues he doesn't have full control over. But he could do a lot more to manage the grossness and he isn't. In most areas, my husband is very sensitive and attune to my needs but in this area he has more of a "Well, I can't help this much so it's not a very big issue" attitude.

I'm just venting and needed to get this off my chest. Anyone else feel worn down by the grossness that can come with chronic illness?

Does anyone have a link for a good map to Springfield neighborhoods?

Hi all, I have a small business (licensed home bakery) I am looking at possibly offering deliveries in neighborhoods near me (I live on the West side). However, I am not having much luck finding a map that shows neighborhoods by name - i.e. like Sloane Crossing, Westborough, etc. I've Googled several times and not had much luck. Anyone have a link to share?

I realized it doesn't matter how long this weight loss takes since I am on Zep for life

46F/SW159/CW148/GW129

I'm on my 5th box of Zepbound and I am not losing nearly as fast as I would like. I was on 2.5 for 4 months and now am on 5s. I've been bouncing between 147s-148s for about two months and hopefully going up to 5s helps.

I was feeling discouraged when it hit me today - I don't plan to go off this medication so it really doesn't matter how long I take to lose the weight I want. I'm not going off it because Zepbound has been incredible for me. Prior to starting, my cholesterol was 244 in January and that was after taking a statin for two years. My daily blood draws were creeping up to 120s-140s. Diet, exercise, and intermittent fasting wasn't working. I've aways struggled with my weight my entire life and at age 46, I was discouraged and frustrated. Also, perimenopause was hitting and affecting my health as well.

Five months into Zepbound and my triglycerides plummeted to 101. My blood draws are consistently below 95 and I've even got some 80s. My perimenopause symptoms are much improved - I have fewer night sweats, my energy is so much better, and I feel like living again. Zepbound has given me a new lease on life. My food noise is way down and my appetite is a lot smaller and I am not so food driven. I've never gotten such dramatic results from a medication like I have with Zepbound.

I wish I had gotten quicker weight loss with Zepbound and I am a bit frustrated by my process. It may very well take me another year to get more weight off. But it literally occurred to me that I have full intentions on still being on Zepbound in a year. I know I will be at a lower weight in a year, whether that is 3LB or 15LB. But regardless, I'm going to be on Zepbound anyway.

That realization did help me feel less frustrated! I'm in it for the long haul and hopefully the weight loss will come with time.

Skinny in some areas, chubby in others - the dissonance is weird

46F/SW159/CW148/GW130

I am getting some pounds off and am experiencing what I did about 10years ago when I lost 20LB: at some point, I get to a place where certain parts of me are skinny while others are still fat. I am a 5'3 woman with an overall bigger frame. I have giant shoulders, a big chest, a broad back, and big arms. I store all my fat in my stomach, chest, and arms. Honestly, I'll probably still have belly fat when I get to my goal weight. And I don't think I'll look thin even at my goal weight - I'm build short and squatty.

Also, now that I am 46, I am definitely living up to the words of Catherine Deneuve that "A 30-year-old woman must choose between her bottom and her face" I have a few videos of myself when I was briefly 135LB and when I see those videos, I think "What the heck is wrong with my face?" At 135LB, I had my mom start worrying I was getting too thin. I had some ribs showing. But I STILL had belly fat and some thigh jiggle. I didn't look thin. Smaller, definitely. But still chunky.

Even at 148LB I am starting to get that weird dissonance again where at times I see a glance of my neck or look at my wrists or see a collarbone in the mirror and think "That looks too skinny" But I can still grab a handful of belly fat. I'm still overweight. I definitely can see as an older woman that being too thin in the face can age you: I want to lose weight but not at the expense of my face looking gaunt.

I know we can't spot reduce. I've accepted the fact that liposuction or body contouring is going to be the only thing that gets off the problem areas (and I am not willing to pursue that) But it's just a weird dissonance to have parts of you are too skinny and parts are still too fat. It kinda makes it hard to determine how much is enough.

Anyone else dealing with this? It's just weird to feel both fat and skinny at the same time!

I'm so sick of older people screaming their greeting when they pick up the phone

I do telemed health assessments on patients, most of whom are 55 years or older - I spent all day making outbound calls and taking inbound calls. Most of my patients have hearing issues to some extent. And so many of them pick up the phone and yell their greeting like they are trying to hail a taxi cab during rush hour in New York. Men will bellow and women will shriek. Then they settle down into a more normal speaking tone. When I take an inbound call, people don't do this: It's only when they take a call that they scream their answer.

So many times, I recoil back and sigh in frustration. I ALWAYS keep my headphones on my cheeks not my ears when calling someone and I try to remember to turn my mike down. But too many times to count have I had my eardrums blasted out because some older adult feels the need to scream their greeting into the phone.

The frustrating thing is when I've expressed this to others, I get a lot of "Well they have hearing issues!" Yeah and I now have a ruptured eardrum because my 56 year old patient felt the need to scream into the phone when he picked it up. FFS stop screaming when you pick up the phone. You don't continue that conversation at that volume so you clearly understand that it is too loud. Just give a pleasant "Hello" at your normal conversation volume. I promise that I can hear you.

This middle age lady feels normal again!

46F/SW 159LB/GW 130LB/CW 147LB

I'm heading into my 4th month of Zepbound, still on 2.5 (likely going up next box) I also started a CPAP to treat mild sleep apnea about two months ago. It's been pretty amazing how much better I feel! Prior to Zepbound, perimenopause was hitting pretty hard and I was feeling crummy. Yes I lost 12LB and plan to lose more but Zepbound has really made me feel normal again. Here are the benefits I've gained.

  1. Normal temperature. Prior to Zepbound, I was waking up feeling like I was on fire. During the day, I would have these weird times where I felt both burning up and freezing at the same time. Once I started Zep, all this went away and I felt like I was a normal temperature. I am comfortable now which is great!

  2. More "alive" feeling - Honestly, I was just feeling pretty dead below the chin. My libido was shot, my energy was low, and I just felt like my body was just existing, not alive. Mentally, I felt just flat. I didn't have any excitement for life and just felt like I was going through the motions. Now I feel more alive. My energy and libido are up. I feel the zest of life again physically and as well as mentally. I have more interest in life and look forward to the future again.

  3. Feeling younger - I really felt my age before Zepbound, like I had become this older adult who lost all of the vigor of youth. Zepbound feels like it peeled several years off me.

  4. Less inflammation - I struggle with migraines and plantar fasciitis which can make exercise more challenging. On Zepbound, I have a reduction in inflammation and feel I can give more to exercise and push myself more. I am still stiff but less so.

What is really interesting is that I had been working for years to try to get these results. I had spent so much time doing mobility and stretching drills, exercising, taking supplements, making dietary changes, going to the doctor. It felt like I was just treading water and nothing I was doing was making much of a difference to my health. Add Zepbound and a CPAP, and it feels like I am FINALLY getting some results for my effort and my health is finally taking a turn for the better!
